wow interesting content. btw how long do you estimate the container will last considering it is made of metal that will rust?

Super interesting to see someone else make one of these. I built my first one in 2018, still going strong. Some differences to yours though. I did floating floor and the resilient channel to hang the walls on, did double layer sound bloc plaster and at the front doors I did sliding glass with cedar cladding. Instead of 2 rooms in the studio I went for a porch/foyer and main room as I'm a media composer and don't really do the band-y stuff when you'd benefit form a "live" room. The porch has tea making facility, the fuse boxes and split system AC controls etc. All my stud walls and floor had rubber mounts to eliminate even more vibrations. Currently get total noise cancelation of 100DB inside to outside. Obvs I can't hear any of there outside while in the studio and it can even hail on the roof with no noise penetration. I did all my wiring under the floor studs to make sure there was zero holes in the walls. My lighting and sound panels are all mounted to an internal skeleton structure that hugs the outside of the internal walls. all of the skeleton is hidden behind light recess panels and sound panels - result = no holes in the walls. The only holes are behind the AC fan and those that come up for the plug outlets in the floor. The main room has a great studio door that I reclaimed from the old BBC studios that weighed 100kg! I built it inside a high cube container and have a 6 inch ventilated space between the roof and the ceiling insulation that is also protected by plastic. This allows any condensation to dry out quickly as that cavity has outside vents. The big steel external doors still close for when I need to lift it to a new location (although my biggest fear remains someone closing them and locking me inside! To the point I keep a metal disc cutter in a cupboard inside. No Joke! I really should remove the doors from the outside when it's stationary, but I do enjoy being able to close it shut when I am away from the property for holiday etc. Something I never did and have always meant to do is build steel frame cedar decking and step to sit flush that I can disassemble and take with me. Something that always strikes me is if I've been away for a few weeks, it still smells like the day I built it when I return, a freshly constructed kind of smell, that smell then goes away until I'm not it there for ages again. One day I if I ever have the space, I'd like to make a 40ft one and mound stone and earth around the sides and roof so it's like a hobbit studio within a man made hill, and turf the whole thing with lovely plants etc. and Furthermore I'd like to join 2 x 40ft with 2 x 20ft in a square formation with a central garden.... I never get to talk about the construction to anyone so sorry for me doing a massive long comment!

This would be a great idea for a 30' box truck. Truly a mobile studio... When I was a kid, we listened to a disco song called "TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS"... It was one of our favorite songs to skate to at the roller rink. By the way, thats a great song you guys would do well with... I can hear y'all in my head playing it.

would be interested of the frequency response of your control room. I built a 3 leaf wooden structure designed to take the energy out of the sound waves but letting them pass threough the outer walls at very low volume.

This is so impressive, and I’ve checked out some of the stuff you’ve recorded and the results from such a tiny studio are huge! I’m building a studio in my garden and looking at a container as an option. I don’t have the distance from neighbours that you do and I’m wondering what sort of sound isolation do you get from the treatment you used? Is the drum kit loud and clear from the outside? Thanks for sharing the vid, so helpful.

Great job. If I were you and I had to record drums, I would just use the control room and put the drums in the shop where you cut the wood. Greetings from Argentina.

An impressive build but if I had that foot print I would have definitely built a bigger space, it's impossible to tame the low end in that space plus drums need air. I gave up trying to get my ideal drum sound in my bedrooms opting for MIDI drums and drum samples which are so good nowadays no need to record live. I suspect you chose a shipping container to save money?
