      Hi, chili1593. Thanks for your kind words and feedback. I love bumblefly patterns. They are meant for both dry fly and/or wet fly. Especially if you fishing with 3 flies on your leader. The bumblefly use to be the highest fly. The middle one a wet fly and the outer one or the fly on the tip is a heavy nymph.

      Hi terrybiggenden. Thanks for your words and I agree with you in total. You have for sure already heard the story. But The original Coachman fly is credited to Englishman Tom Bosworth, a nineteenth-century fly fisherman and flytier. He was actually a coachman and drove coaches for three British monarchies. Although a “royal coachman” himself, he chose to call his fly simply a “Coachman”. A story that gives me a sense of pride and respect for these Masters of Fly-Tying.

      Hi, wilsoncaddis. It's fewer and fewer users of upeye-hooks for dry flies. I don't know why. Mr. Oliver Edwards the real "Mr. Fly Tying-man" from the UK used to say "...the hook shows where the fly should be. Down eye hook under the surface, up eye hook above the surface..." My fly-tying mentor (not with us anymore...) always said the same to me for over 55 years when I started tying my flies. I still like upeye-hooks for dry flies.

      Hi, S.V.C.B. Thanks for your feedback and that you are observant. However, It's not glue. It's old fancy Veniard liquid wax. I suppose I'm the only one in my neighborhood and fly-tyers who knows about and use liquid wax today. When I use it and just lay the dubbing to the tying-thread it gives me another opiontions for how to do dubbing.

      Hi S.V.C.B. ABU Svängsta, which manufactured fishing gear, had a short time where they also produced accessories for their fishing rods, fly rods, reels and fly reels. They were selling lots of fishing lures, and fishing nets and the connection between fishing lines and fishing lures. I never fish with spinning fishing/spinning so I'm not sure of the name for all of those accessories. During that period ABU Svängsta also introduced a series of flies. Meant for fishing on salmon and sea trout in River Morrum, which runs just outside the ABU head office in Svängst, Blekinge, Sweden. The name of the fly series was ABU Optic. The names of the flies were Playboy, Pin-Up, Streamtease and Callgirl. They were tied in black, red and silver. You could be choosing between Tube fly, Chillimps, Salmon fly, Streamers and with the invention sort of "Up-Side-Down" fly. Long ago Garcia Fishing Gear bought ABU Svängsta and changed its name to ABU Garcia.

      @@TERRYBIGGENDEN Hi Terrybiggenden. I agree with you. Lots of fly tyers look like they want to hide behind "sound walls" and other effects instead of showing us their skills in fly tying. Some of them are very good fly tyers. It could be a lack of confidence. It would have been very interesting to see your flies. Any fly pattern for me too...? Is it OK with you to show me on your RUclips account? May I visit your account? In Sweden, we are in the middle of winter. Difficult for fly fishermen. In southern Sweden there is some open water. But mostly in the sea between Sweden and Denmark and the Baltic Sea. In the middle of Sweden and to the north it is still winter with snow, ice and temperatures below -5/-10 Celsius. I live in Stockholm. It will take another 5-6 weeks before open water. First up is fly fishing for sea trout fishing and pike. In early April, all put 'n' take and reservoir fishing opens. Lots of "natural waters" will be ice-free and visitable from April. It is "my waters". For me, put 'n' take and reservoir fishing are a lot of fun, but what is closest to my heart are "natural waters" and then I have to travel 250-350 kilometers from Stockholm to the north.

    Hej, Jan! When I make bodies of the peacock strings I usually add ribbing of the tiny black monofilament (.10). I think it brings reliability to the fly. Nothing critical, just to share experience.

      Hi, s.b. Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experiences. I look forward to many more. It's the best way to learn. And we would never learn too much. I tried your idea for the first time ever. And it looks very good. Thanks! I have four ways to tie in peacocks as material. Peacock is one of the weakest fly-tying materials I know. Only partridge feathers are weaker. 1. Make a dubbing loop. Wrap the peacock herl around one of the "legs" and then close the loop and twist it. 2. Twist two, three or more peacocks around. They become stronger because they are twisted. 3. Like your idea, but use black binding wire as the rib. 4. Tie in peacock herls to the hook. Get them together. Twist the binding thread around the peacock hearts. I look forward to more exchanges of ideas and tying technics. Question; how do you solve to do body wrap with biots to get the nice "ribb" of biots? I think it is a tricky material and only one side of the biot is useful. What's your opinion?

    • @S.V.C.B.
      @S.V.C.B. 6 месяцев назад

      @@kingsmeadowflyrod-atasteof4139 Hej, Jan! Once I bought peacock eyes in a women's hat shop in Oslo, the other time in Kid's or in Bohus (they were suggested to decorate the interior, I think). Both times I got very good, strong feathers, that served me long and successfully. But I agree, if you get the packed strings from the fly shop you never know what quality you would obtain. I don't like very much using both loop or twisting, because first way does not form an even cover, and the other drives you more towards breaking as many strings as you twist (at least it's my personal experience). Ribbing with wire is as great as with mono, especially if you make a wet fly since the wire adds weight. I use mono for dry flies. For example, I was asked to make 60 Red Tags in dry variation, and tied them the most classic way but adding some mono ribbing for certain strength. They stay upon surface pretty long, unless soak much water (but it's generally the virtue of all dry flies unless they are made of complete synthetics. Jan, I find biots to be very tricky material, and use them not frequently. But on tiny flies it's possible to tie in even goose biots, although turkey biots are obviously longer and comfortable. To handle them I usually make them a bit wet. Then they don't break at the tip and wind way easier. Also it's important to properly place them against the hook, the bearded side should be turned upwards to wind them flat side forward. And although I try to tie neatly, I don't care how I finish tying them in since I usually cover this place with dubbing afterwards. Hopefully I managed to answer your question...

A few of them are the Blue Professor Wet Fly, Blue Charm, Big Intervale Blue Salmon Fly, Laxa Blue, and some more. Hi s.b. Hi s.b. Thank you for your feedback. I have to say "Same, same, same". Your customers are probably thinking "...I got a catch last time on that fly so I'll buy some more..." We need to broaden the customers' inspiration and knowledge of other super effective and beautiful fly patterns. Most fly patterns sold today are from the late 1980s or 1990s. Very few fly patterns created in the 21st century have the same high reputation as the Woolly Bugger from the 1950s. Woolly Buggers are derived from Woolly Worms which are from the 1930s. I am about to start selling the flies of the season or even the flies of the month. In a set of few or a handful of designs. Then there is a chance to show other fly patterns as well. From my point of view, I think 19th and 20th-century fly patterns are more effective over longer periods than the Woolly Bugger. And they are often the "Original for modern fly patterns.
