Having a got a using photogrammetry as a way to produce 3D models for design and 3D printing projects. Results were better than expected (resolution and ease of processing) however it's clear that more photos are needed and the lighting conditions need to be considered for better results. A challenging first model but I am very happy with the results! Shot with a Nikon D5600 with a 18-120mm len...
Rear brake lockup and spin - Morgan Park

Spin out whilst passing my Dad's KE20 Corolla (Red - LHS). Entered the corner pretty hot, don't normally brake for this corner but being off the normal line I tried to slow down a bit but then locked up the rear brakes and spun out.
KE30 Racecar - Observation of front end flex

KE30 with 6 point cage and front strut brace, full polyurethane bushes and some seam welding, but the chassis is still very flexible when with R-comp tyres, tuned shocks and springs. Cornering forces of 1.4G and braking of 0.85G are typical. As a driver you don't really notice the flexing, but the wheel alignment had to be set considerate of the amount of flex. Unfortunately I cannot add additi...

Just a bit of fun, this was the first run for the weekend so everyone is just warming up. I've always loved the 80's and early 90's Porsche 911's but I was pretty stocked to find my Corolla is quicker around a track. KE30 Corolla lifting wheels around Morgan Park

Round 4 of the Queensland Super Sprints A series at Morgan Park, 12 and 13 of August 2017. My little 3SGE Beams powered Corolla still can't turn left thanks to a slightly uneven left/right weight distribution, and a stiff front swaybar with a soft rear end allowing it to squat under power, the car carries the front left around corners (and sometimes the front rear as well!). Hopefully I can mov...

Okay. Good for you mate. Keep searching.
this is very usefull thanks for filming this veiw
Your dad showed you who the true alpha male is.
Good night this engine is a 2000 of 150hp if you can send me some pictures so I can see that I'm making a ke20 with a 3sge greetings
What an excellent video!
It´s well lit, the camera´s well sited and free of bad vibes, the annotations are concise yet helpful and the slowed sequences are very interesting. It´s strange that so many good videos remain largely undiscovered, while comparative rubbish goes viral.
Ae86 rear diff?
AE86 rear brakes but the diff is from a Hilux, LSD with a 4.56 gear ratio.
@@DavidT778 she sounds good 👍🏻
Nice video I have 77 Corolla wagon I'm trying upgrade my suspension have any website I should look into ? Thx
Hi Alexo122, I can't recommend a website for good advice as honestly most 'Corolla' specific suspension advice online seems to be wrong with guys not really understanding what they are doing. In reality following the common advice for Macpherson strut front ends and hotchkiss/live axle rear is the best you can do, particularly regarding roll center heights and migration. The book "How to make your car handle" by Fred Puhn has some good guidance. I'm still implementing some of the recommended changes and have been letting lap times and testing show me where the improvements and weaknesses are.
@@DavidT778 thx really appreciate the information
@@DavidT778 right now is going be weekend car just cruise with my family having challenge trying find set up especially for the front suspension
What hub adapter you used to mount that steering wheel.
Hey mate I know this is an old video but do you have pictures or other videos of the rear setup? Interested in seeing the extra rods you have installed
What suspension are you running?
It's all pretty custom Taylor, up front are shortened Corona struts with Koni adjustable inserts, weld on coilover sleeve and 300lb/in spring, T3 negative offset roll centre adjusters, K-Mac camber/caster adjustable strut tops, re-threaded caster rod for a bit more caster, custom adjustable swaybar with ball jointed end links from FG Falcon ute's, in the back are adjustable KYB shocks, modified leaf spring (main leaf flipped and re-rolled, additional leaf, Teflon liners, bolt on clamps for the front half of the spring pack, about 145lb/in), custom rear panhard rod. Have refined a lot of setting since this video, including increasing spring rates front and rear and moving the roll centres around to keep all the wheels on the ground.
Both 4age?
Watch the start again for the specifications. Only the KE25 is 4AGE, my KE30 is 3SGE.
what rear suspension setup tht you using?
Thats a fair bit of chassis rail flex going on! Have you done anything to help prevent it yet or are you limited by class rules?
Limited by class rules unfortunately. I recently found a small crack in the chassis which I ground back and welded and so far I haven't had any problems. I suspect that in the past the car has had a small impact at the front right which had that weld seam popped apart, and the stress of racing made it flex more. Since pulling that seam straight and welding the crack the flexing has reduced. I do plan to make a stiffer caster rod bushing to reduce the toe out under braking, I have used a 3D printer to make a mould for casting a stiffer urethane into. You could relocate the swaybar mounts to attached directly to the chassis rail which would take some stress away from the caster rod mount.
Nice video mate, have subscribed. Going to be building a KE35 so enjoy seeing videos of them pushed hard with factory leaf springs and steering box systems still in place. Im undecided if they are up to the task but certainly dont seem to hold your car back! What front sway bar are you running that fits with the 3sge in there?
Thanks Callum! I know what you mean, there is a lot of stress on it for an old 'economy car'. So far it's been up to the task of being: fun to drive, reliable and reasonably competitive, which is perfect. I still have some tweaking to do on the suspension and after that, maybe some more power. Good luck with your KE35!
Good drive! Mind if I ask if you're still using stock steering? Or have you converted to rack and pinion?
Thanks Dominic. It is 100% stock steering. The competition class I am in puts a limit on modifications, so I wouldn't have been able to convert to rack and pinion. Luckily though the standard steering box is up to the task. A few years ago I stripped the steering box and put it back together with new seals, new grease and tightened back up to factory specifications, I also replaced some ball joint, and made a small bolt on brace that links the top of the steering box to the body so it doesn't flex so much. The way it feels to drive, I don't believe a rack and pinion setup would provide much of a gain in terms of directness, however the steering is a little bit heavy due to the additional caster from the wheel alignment and the high scrub radius from NCRA's and low offset wheels, but really it's not too bad. Also, as you can see in the video I only need half a turn either side of centre to get around the track, so the steering ratio isn't a problem either but you can get shorter steering arms if you want quicker steering or more lock.
Thanks for the fast and detailed reply! I was unsure about buying a buddy's KE35 coupe for autocross and circuit events, but after researching and finally seeing your videos and input, I'm sure I'm gonna go for it.
Dominic Dei Ouano Jabillo Thanks! Feel free to ask any more questions and good luck with your new car project.
Hello nice setup.. can i ask more info about the set up you are using cause i also wanted to put a 3sge engine in my ke30... though it's a left hand drive.. can i use all altezza parts in the conversion.. thanks for answering...
Hi John, I did use a lot of the standard parts from the Altezza (engine and gearbox mounts, ecu, exhaust headers, intake manifold, radiator pipes). I removed the engine mounts from the cross member and made my own mount platforms and used Land Rover engine mounts bolted to the standard alloy mounts on the engine block. Gearbox mount I custom made, but it wasn't too difficult. The gear stick bracket can be moved to a more forward position as there are additional holes on the gearbox for this. I used the standard exhaust headers as they are quite a nice design and joined the headers to a custom exhaust. For the ECU, I cut half of the loom and extended it, then rerouted the wiring under the plenum, through the firewall and into the glove-box area. I also used the Altezza gauge cluster mounted into the KE30 dash. Being LHD you should have clearance on the intake side to use the standard intake manifold. I cut away part of the alloy sump where it joins to the gearbox to make room for the drag link/ steering rod. I had to massage the entry to the gearbox tunnel on the firewall to fit the bell housing. There is a lot more aftermarket support now for fitting these, SQ Engineering make some parts that help with clearance and a guy call KE Conversions in QLD makes bolt in engine mounts to suit the KE30. I hope that helps.
David Thompson thank you very much... for answering... looks like lot of work.. but it's worth it... do you think there will be a space issue if i use the altezza diff??
John Paulo Ani you can't really use the diff from the altezza in the Corolla (without a lot of work) because the rear suspension is different: altezza is independent rear and the Corolla is a live axle. I am using a diff from a Hilux (g series), you can use a tarago diff (f series) with the altezza diff center (f series).
@@DavidT778 you don't think the stock ke30 will hold the beams power?
@@cautionontherun30 probably not, not for motorsport use anyway. People have broken the stock KE30 diff with just a 4K eninge wth less than half the power of a 3sge.
Nice vid David , Can you post a pic of the track bar from the rear? Thanks,MM Ihave a TE 27 SCCA car.
