Blood Supply to Palm feat. Allen's Test
Anatomical variations are often interesting, but not always important. In this video, I'm looking at the blood supply to the hand and a vascular variation that it's well worth knowing about. Please note, I'm not a doctor, so the section on Allen's test covers the principles of how the test works, but isn't guidance for how best to perform it (particularly the fist pumping bit).

    I was born with this problem in both knees. I always thought that I was knock kneed! Knee pain all through my childhood, finally identified in my early 20s. My left patella was 30 degrees out and my right 25. I had my patella tendon realigned on my left, a very painful operation. I didn't have my right corrected and as I have got older my patella pain has increased. Recent MRI shows abnormal wear on my femoral condyles from years of diagonal movement. Interesting video, thanks.

    • @magpie1492
      @magpie1492 3 месяца назад

      That's the point, there is no fix. This is my normal anatomy. The damage done to my uncorrected knee means that I will require a knee replacement at some point when the pain becomes too much. In the meantime I work on my quads, glutes and hamstrings in an effort to stabilise my knee and reduce pain.

    At 4:35 you mentioned that the pre ganglionic fibers are long and the post ganglionic fibers are short. I thought for sympathetic, the pre ganglionic fibers are short and the post ganglionic fibers are long. For parasympathetic the pre ganglionic fibers are long and post are short?

    • @Anartomy
      @Anartomy 8 месяцев назад

      Good question! Within the context of the whole autonomic nervous system, this is absolutely correct - the sympathetic nerves have shorter pre-ganglionic fibres than the parasympathetic nerves. However, relative to other sympathetic nerves, the splanchnic nerves have *longer* pre-ganglionic fibres, which is what I meant by them being 'long'. Apologies for the confusion/imprecise language, but I hope that helps!
