    A used AV (in pieces) from the early 90s just came on my radar and this video was hugely helpful for knowing what I'd be getting into. Sadly it does have the old style boiler, so I'd have to consider replacing that. Although the machine would be for home use and maybe a few days a year of pop-up so I'm not sure it would even be necessary based on the super low volume.

    what an amazing video, i have the appia 2 groups, it was working perfectly, but 2 days ago the room that it was in, got a temperature of -10 and everything inside froze (the machine was turned on) with the (stop/continuous shot) keys both flashing, while the other keys are illuminated (if i press any key, they work as they should) but the machine isnt heating and cold water comes out of the groups i opened up the machine from every side and let it dry out, when i turn it it on, it does trip the main breaker. what i tried, is to disconnect the water level probe from the boiler, by doing this, the machine no longer trips the breaker. i have few conclusions in mind 1: the probe got damaged during the freeze (the boiler had water that froze inside it probably) 2: the heatsink inside the boiler is damaged (due to freezing boiler with water?) ive checked for melting cables or something that looks off, all cables looked neat and no melting. the pump works, the groups release water when pressed, couldnt try the tea water as it didnt heat up i know its a tricky situation and an unusual problem that could have many theories, but i would appreciate any insight to solve this <3 thanks a lot

    • @EspressoServiceNetwork
      @EspressoServiceNetwork 4 месяца назад

      The flashing lights indicates a boiler refill error. Unfortunately, the refill error shut down your machine which allowed it to freeze. If it's tripping the breaker, it's probably because things were wet. Start by finding out why your machine was wet on the inside. Freezing an espresso machine is never good and there could be a host of things wrong: cracked pipes, burst heat exchangers and flow meters, damaged fill valves and destroyed gauges are all to be expected. Burst heat exchangers means a new boiler. I am very sorry. Dave

    What is the difference between American and Italian made in espresso machine?

    • @EspressoServiceNetwork
      @EspressoServiceNetwork 5 месяцев назад

      Espresso machines manufactured in Italy typically utilize fittings and components designed according to the metric system. In contrast, machines manufactured in the USA may use a combination of both the imperial (standard) system and the metric system. Many of the most well-known and respected espresso machine brands originate from Italy (e.g., La Marzocco, Simonelli, Rancilio), bringing a certain prestige and expectation of quality. However, high-end machines such as Synesso and Slayer Espresso are designed and manufactured in the U.S., demonstrating that American-made machines can also achieve high standards of excellence.

    Our machine (same as in video) is overheating at times. We do not have a PID controller on it and I have no idea of where the thermostat is located. If we put a PID controller on it, do we have to use the La Marzocco item or can we buy another brand. I see quite a few on Amazon. The OEM controller is about $650. Any brand recommendations?

    • @EspressoServiceNetwork
      @EspressoServiceNetwork 5 месяцев назад

      The OEM part includes the wiring, solid state relay and temperature probe. With the OEM part the algorithm is also pre-programmed. I would not consider another brand. Your thermostat is located in the center of the brew boiler. If it is a 3 group it is off center.

    Hi ESN! Thanks for the very detailed video :) I wondered if you have any advice for a Mythos One that's 2 years old, it has a fresh set of burrs on but has the following issue; We turn the grinder on in the morning 45 minutes before dialing in and load the beans into the hopper with the hopper slot open. For the first 18 months, the morning calibration routine would be something like this : - We grind the first dose and throw it away. - We grind a 2nd dose, and run a shot, let's say it takes 23s to hit our desired yield. - We adjust the grind setting a notch or two finer, dump 2 doses and pull a shot and we hit our desired extraction time of 28s. Since a couple of months now, we're finding that if we follow the same routine, that within 2 or 3 doses time - our extraction time will jump to 35-39s... So we adjust the grind a bit coarser and fall back down to our desired extraction time and then for the rest of the day it stays pretty stable - we rarely have pauses of more than 5 minutes in between doses. The burr carrier feels lukewarm to the touch before we grind our first dose, but 5-6 doses later it's rather warm. A local technician replaced the heating element, which had no effect. He then advised that we cleaned around the bearing and axle with compressed air...

Added extra sheets to brew heads and steam wand fittings and on over the tanks-heat rises. It pulls right off if needed for service/inspection/repairs. What should I do to make it work? I tried looking it up online and read the manual but I didn't find any information on it. If you know anything, please help me out. Thanks for your help.

      With the main switch on, next turn it on from the front. Let me know if that does not work?

    Great Help, Thank you. But some of your advice for old machines: 1. It does seem your advice to replace the Older Steam Broiler pressure(temp) controller when it goes out, with the $600+ PID controller kit is poor advice. Simply because it appears the company which makes the old style Sirai Pressurestat switch (P302?), still makes them for $100 new. Plus the pressurestat contains the electric contacts which turn on and off the heating element. So when you replace it, you are getting all new, unlike the PID which uses 2 expensive components which both wear out, to do the same thing. Plus even though the Brewing thermostat # L260 might no longer be available, its micro switch # 11981.10 (Cutler-Hammer# E47CMS01 20amp!) which is what wears out, is for cheap. 2. Replacing the entire older 2 part brewer tank w/bolt on brewer heads for a newer tank with welded on heads... that's $$$$.$$ of dollars... I would think if a weak threads break/over tightened, new threads can easily enough be welded onto the old tank. I see a new gasket can be had for $7 plus shipping from a few sites. Take care.

      As a professional technician equipment owners are typically seeking improved performance. In the case of with upgrading to a PID, improved performance and less maintenance. Welding is not that simple or easy. Again, most equipment owners are seeking resolutions that are quick and efficient. IOf course, you can try all the things suggested but the potential for a poor outcome is not a gamble most business owners want to take.

      @@EspressoServiceNetwork thank you for the reply. I'm not sure the PID is necessarily more reliable. Both systems rely on contacts which suffer high voltage arcing damage over time, each time the heating elements turn on and off, breaking the electrical flow. Yet the contacts in the mechanical are much cheaper to replace the unit. As far as the temp swings of the mechanical, when they were the latest, they were touted to be more reliable than the 10 deg you say you have witnessed and our customers and staff are happy with the accuracy of the mechanical. Some of us restaurants have tight budgets and have to do some repairs ourselves. Not to fear, there are more than plenty of work needed from the professionals, especially honest and caring ones like yourself. Take care

      Thank you for the kind words! The PID system uses a solid state relay. They can break but there are no contacts or wear n tear parts. If cost is an issue and temp fluctuation is not a concern then stick with the switch. Be careful not to lose the spring (its easy to do) or the c-clips and know that overtime the thermostat gets more and more out of range.

    WoW better insulate those 2 broiler tanks with some fiberglass insulation wrap like they do with their newer made exact ones! Otherwise it's costing electricity and making staff hot and wearing out the heating elements and related. Also since many find reduced maintenance by keeping the machines turned on 24/7 in a high use establishment. Great video, thanks for caring and sharing! I'm making labels for all the components to help anyone looking inside! Take care

    The steam boiler for my shop’s Linea Classic isn’t heating at all, but the water level hasn’t gone down, nor has the reset knob responded to turning the machine off and on again. Any thoughts?

      The following things could be bad, heating element, pressure switch, contactor, safety limit, or wire connections. Not certain what reset knob you are referring to? Let me know?

      Sorry for the slow response. I did not see your comment. There may be something wrong down the wiring line or your Led transformer is bad.
