i literally just wrote an essay about this exact same thing. I love your take on it! I also included some ideas about how the guns in the movie were just symbolism for penises, and how Harold was constantly measuring his dick against the other guys'. And then at the end when Pearl and Maxine are pointing guns at each other, that effectively masculinized both of them, but Pearl got blasted out the door from the recoil, and Maxine's gun was totally not loaded. So masculinity did not work out for either of them. X was so amazing. It's probably going to be one of my favorites for a long time.
