You probably should never hook a mechanical oil pressure gauge to that engine.... I learned on an 86 F250 4x4 4 speed 4.10's, basically same truck as yours. At an idle it had like 17 psi with straight 30wt in it for the summer. Once you got over 900-1000 RPM it jumped up to 40-45 or so, but at an idle when you're lugging the piss out of it pulling out, that's just downright scary pressure. That engine lost it's lunch at about 140k miles. Had a turned up injector pump that I could run gear for gear with the newer 7.3's until they hit the 5th gear I didn't have. She ran good. I think, and I never really got a straight answer if it was a rod bearing or if it windowed a cylinder due to cavitation, because at that time, the cylinder wall cavitation thing wasn't that well known. There is a specific type of antifreeze or at least a consumable additive that's needed for the IDI engines. Man does seeing this truck bring back some great memories!

I cross deeper pits in my 442 I’d duck tape my distributor making it soak resistant.
