Sorry I have to post this twice as I don't know how to send it to you both otherwise. Another lady here, Japanese Breakfast said they are called Japanese Hair Padding - or Sukige - is the brand. You may be able to locate them specifically. These kind of hair additions have been used in many cultures including Western and European, probably forever! As a girl I remember looking at them displayed amongst the Lady Jane hair accessories, even at KMart. They used to be called "hair rats" and probably once were 😳 They have been used for everything from a Chignon to Victory Rolls to Bee-hives. Anytime you need to defy gravity or add shape or texture. My Aunt used to boast that she used an entire skein of wool in her french roll in the 60s. As these styles that required "rats" went out of fashion from the 80s onward, they disappeared from shelves. You can now find Bun Rings again, even at the $2 shops. You could actually chop these into the size and shape you require. I remember they came as buns and little sausage shapes, about the length of a mini Frankfurt (hot dog sausage if you aren't Australian). As I am involved in theatre and have been interested in getting hairstyles from different eras as close to right as possible, I have actually made these myself using foam like the coarse aquarium filter foam, as well as simple polyester wadding. It you want to disguise the colour you can pop it into a piece of panty-hose. Pin or just roll into place and voila! In reality, you can use just about anything that will hold the shape and bulk that you need. As my Aunty did! I hope my little shared wisdom helps you in the future. Both your posts were a little while ago.
