Replacing the Swing Gate Lock on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler
Get ready for a completely unscripted video installing a new powered swing gate lock on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door. It's a bit non-linear, fraught with focus and lighting issues as well as ums and uhs -- mostly from me, but we got it installed.
Brianna got her Jeep from the dealer a bit over a year ago. The powered lock for the swing gate has never worked. We finally got around to replacing it, but there's very little information out there about how to do it. We decided to become the information.

Installing a 6 inch lift kit on a ‘97 Rockwood Freedom
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
This is a pretty in-depth video of how to install a Dexter axle flip kit from Etrailer on my 1997 Rockwood Freedom pop-up camper. It shows the differences between installing this kit and the kit we did on my parents’ newer Viking Epic pop-up. I talk a bit more about welding and we do a bit of testing about bolt torque, so the video is a little on the long side. Please enjoy and if you get somet...
Installing a 6” lift on a Viking Epic

We installed a Dexter spring-over lift kit on my dad’s 2017 Viking Epic 1906 pop-up camper. This is a pretty in-depth video. We tried to show and explain every step of the process from removing the axle to welding the brackets to paint and reinstalling the axle. This is the first of two videos. The second is coming soon and will be about doing the same conversion on my Rockwood Freedom pop-up.

We took a family trip up to Colorado and took this little day trip to Devil’s Peak. The road is pretty gnarly, but all you really need is some ground clearance. I did the whole thing in two wheel drive in my Jeep XJ. Very fun little wheeling adventure with some steep drop offs and beautiful views. Installing a Dayton blower on my propane forge
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.3 года назад
I’ve been using a hair drier as a blower on my propane forge as a stop-gap measure until I got a real blower motor. Now it’s been two years and I’ve gone through five hair driers. I finally bought a Dayton 1TDP3 75cfm 120v blower motor to hopefully stop that gap permanently. This video shows how I installed it. There’s a lot of how not to do it in this video, so don’t do it my way. Do it right....

Forging a simple knife from a Mustang spring

I found half a Mustang that somebody dumped in the desert on the outskirts of town. I was able to rescue a coil spring from it to make this simple little knife. This is a bit more of a how-to video than I usually do. I’m not saying it’s the right way, just how I did it, and I’m quite happy with the results.

    Great build. I just got the same motor. I wired a switch into the wiring panel. When I turned it on it ran, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it won’t run. Hope I don’t break it.

    I just purchased two for my art studio and I’m sure my neighbours could hear me cursing 🤬 How difficult would it be to attach a sticker with instructions to the cabinet? Seriously this is the frustration we will all recall, not the ease of unpacking and assembly. Thank you so much for this video.

    Hi nice remodel😊 I also have a 1997 Rockwood pop-up camper was just wondering if you’ve ever had to replace the four stage lift arms? Thank you for such a great detailed video! I was able to get it 90% done myself on my 2004 Starcraft. I just needed another set of hands to hold the pliers to wrap that end around the winch and tighten it around that bracket. Well done. My only cost was the $100 cable I ordered so I didn't have to do anything but uninstall the old one and put the new one in.

  • @wk7060

    Couldn’t you just flip the axle over and not do any welding, and place it under the springs?

    • @theartifactory3637
      @theartifactory3637 Год назад

      People do do it that way, but the axle has a bow in it that has to remain in the right orientation to compensate for the axle’s flex when weighted. If you flip the axle, the bow will be going the wrong way and you can wear out your bearings and tires faster.

    I can’t figure out where to feed the second crimp. Getting pretty frustrated

    • @theartifactory3637
      @theartifactory3637 Год назад

      I go over that at 16:11. The top stop gets fed up through the pulley and into the top tube. Next the springs go in ensuring that the cable sits in top of the bracket that holds the two springs together. The bottom part of the cable that loops under the pulley threads into the bottom tube and through the small space between the two parallel springs inside the tube. It should thread all the way through the tube until the next stop comes up against the springs inside. It should come out the end of the tube at the front of the camper where you will wind it up on the spool for the crank. Hope that helps! Good luck with your repair!

      The second stop goes into the bottom tube to meet up with the bottom set of springs. At 17:19 where I’m feeding the open end of the cable into the bottom tube toward the winch, the second stop should follow that in to meet up with the bottom set of springs that push toward the front of the camper. When you’re feeding the cable through, there should be a space above the bracket holding the springs together inside the tube that allows the cable to feed easily through until the bottom stop meets up with the springs, then you’ll wind the open end of the cable into the winch. Hope that clears things up.

    Just like putting the wood on the floor jack, you should have put the wood on the jack stands! The jack stands would be more stable on the concrete, and the wood would have spread the load on the frame, as it was when on the floor jack!

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC Год назад

      Wood cribbing is a perfectly acceptable and very often used way to raise something up. There's nothing wrong with the stability of that. Putting a bunch of wood on top of a small area like the top of a jack stand would be extremely unstable.
