In this video I'm joined by @mrsmithnet and @kieleighgirl as we take a ride on the Schuylkill River from Parker Ford to Oaks and back. This was their first time riding this section of trail and despite the cloudiness, it was a good day to be riding.

A Look Around Bernie's Model Railroad Shop
She is a beaut Clark! 👍👍
Drones aren't allowed there. I live down the road and stopped by and spoke to a park ranger. Any state park in Pennsylvania it's not permitted to fly drones! Sadly 😭
Actually, it is a county park. Either way, there are ways of flying the area and getting aerial footage without taking off within the park.
@emeraldsoundproductions oh really? I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for that tidbit of information
I went there on my motorcycle. The othe side seemed to have a bit more graffiti.
I have a scanner that I use and listen for them to call the train number at signal. Then I go to a website and look up the train number
Nice videos. I lifeguard at the pool right across the street, seeing dozens of engines pass by each day really sparked an interest in this kind of stuff. I got a question, how can you see where each manifest is headed?
NATIVES call it RenovA. my dad corrects me cuz his grandparents lived there for a short time. my great grandpa worked at the shops after he left the rdg in philly. his house was near the soccer field. i live not far from renovo in beech creek a nyc not far from prr that is nber uses.. the yard and shop closes in the 60s when altoona was the main place for repairs. the buff line starts at cp rockville/rockville bridge and runs all the way to driftwood where wnyp takes over for a section. the orig line from emporium toward olean is a trail. i got a lot of photos of the line and went out to get photos of the old prr signals in the no mans land section btwn drury and sinnemahoning. theres a book about the the phila and erie that owned the line first. it has a section about the shops, how ornate the buildings were for a middle of nowhere town. i will try and do video on it in the future.if you want to see some cool rr related places LMK. i followed you btw can you sub back. prr gave nyc trackage rights btwn mcelhatten and keating so they could reach the coal mines of clearfield area. prr also went to cfd but they went via the old bellefonte and snow shoe rr, the line from cresson north and via the track from vail north of tyrone. btw NO POWER PLANT. penn pilot is a good source of ariel photos.
Looks like a 💥 🛴
do trains still use the tracks at Rustic Park? and if so how often do trains pass?
Those tracks and train are owned by Haines and Kibblehouse and there is no schedule as to when they use it.
@@emeraldsoundproductionsNorfolk Southern uses the track rite?
Nope. The only train that is on the tracks is the one owned by Haines and Kibblehouse.
Im planning a trip that starts in Birdsboro Preserve, to French Creek, to Big Woods to the SRT to Exeter Trail to Neversink and ending in Mt.Penn/Antietam. Question for you, the SRT from Birdsboro to Gibralter, is that all road still? Thanks 👍👍
Yes it is all road from Birdsboro to Gibraltar
Ok thanks! Two risks i have to plan for on this trip, this road leg btween Bird & Gibralter with cars and the second risk is the rift raft often times lurking on Neversink and the homeless under the bridge going up to Mt. Penn gravity trail.
Thanks again for the invite. Was a great day and a great ride! 👍
Nice video! The area you walk into around 30 minutes at trythall rd was once warwick woods campground. My family stayed for several years they closed not long after we left and sold everything at auction I believe including the property. There was a storage barn next to the trail at the end if the road.
PS- dying to get my e-bike out on an adventure other than just the dirt lane.
Would’ve loved to join you all; had a Legion event to attend.
Nice great see again. Thx
Had fun hanging out for the day. Thanks for sharing.
I would say July weather was much nicer to railfan in. Nice catches .
It's been a long time since I've been on that trail, probably JP's meetup was the last time. So I enjoyed seeing gate update. That's cool they cleared out the vegetation that was covering the rails on the east side of the trail and the old foundations near the water tower on the spur. I also need to get out there to see the Dragon Cement switcher since they repainted it.
The switcher really looks nice since they finished and moved it. I still have some things that I want to explore yet up there but am waiting for fall to settle in and not everything is green and have leaves on.
Great video! Is kayaking allowed on this reservior?
No boats of any kind including kayaks are allowed on it.
@@emeraldsoundproductions OK thanks
Thank you for the video. I was there today. Is the only parking spot by the pull-off by the path? I could’ve sworn I drove by another parking area off powder mill road
There is a spot to pull off at the spillway. There is also a parking area off of powder mill hollow rd on the north side of the resevoir
you were right about the rail line running behind the Fork & Ail on what is now a street. That stretch of track went into the old armer cast plant a division of Birdsboro Steel where they built tanks during the 2nd world war . I'm glad I stumbled into you're videos they bring some nice memories back. And that bridge was still standing in the 70's but I don't remember when they tore it down.
you did not bore me I wanted to see more
The old foundation you noted as a barn is an old mill that burned down years ago. Across 724 from the aqueduct is an old dam but I couldn't find out what it was for when we were kids we would swim in it. Also if you go a little east of town there is another aqueduct on the left but it is in ruins.
That bottle would be fett and son
Anyone else have issues inflating it i followed the numbers but the bottom isnt sitting right and it causes one side to not sit tight either
Try inflating the floor first.
Those bees have been in that car over 20 years. Before moving away I lived near the IRT and used to run and ride bike regularly and really miss it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Awesome trail, green with envy. That’s the thing about cycling, you discover and see things you’ll never see behind the wheel of a car, or even on foot.
Nice review... it took me awhile to decide after doing a bunch of research and watching videos as well. It came down between this and the lectric XP light 2.0 Lectric had a better reputation and better customer support, but for the same money I got a bigger motor, bigger bike, bigger battery, 7 gears and much more functionality with Jasion.
I did that same trip today. I didn't see the pavilion on the farmer's field (surrounded by corn lol). Im always out doing stuff, whether it's train related or history stuff. My channel has a lil bit of everything.
I stopped by the cemetery this past Sunday (7-22-24). Someone is mowing and taking care of it very nicely.
On my kayak, there is a "ventilation hole" under the kayak, I have no idea what it's for.. All the other holes are numbered, but not that one, and it didn't come with any instructions. My kayak is a Best Way Hydro Force
Hydro Force 9
@@666igc That hole is used to get the water out of your kayak
I agree that the intro is enticing. Nice information. I have seen videos, but I have never explored in person.
I lived at the Forgedale Hotel and have been all over that area, including the rocks swimming hole, when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!
Escape from the rock?
Wow! What a really nice trail! Except for the maintenance on some of it, but you still did it! And that cabin was gorgeous! Cool find on the lock too! Thank you for taking me along with you! Loved it!
At 17:35 in your Video; you should have kept going. That would have taken you over the 183 Bridge; which crosses the Schuylkill River. Then off the Bridge; make a Left onto that road. Keep going; and you pick up the Union Canal Trail; which will eventually take you to Blue Marsh Lake. BTW; have to tell you; that part of the Trail where you stopped; till the part of the Trail where RAAC is on your Left Hand Side is in a REALLY BAD part of Reading; Pa. Not Kidding. 2 individuals were actually shot in that general area about 1.5 years ago. One Survived; one didn't.
Yes, I am aware where the trail ends and where the Union Canal one begins. I have made other videos on the Union Canal towpath trail. I know that the section of trail past RACC isn't the greatest, but I always have some form of protection on me so I'm not worried.
Hi Randy. I have enjoyed your videos and I also know a lot about Valley Forge NHP. So I am compelled to share some information with you. First - always start at the Visitor’s Center. That is my policy. They would likely give you lots of information that would have been helpful in your search. Of course they will also let you know which areas are restricted; like County Line Road, in spite of the fact that many people go there anyway. There were multiple quarries in the park. You can see that clearly on the old photo that you shared. The standard park map also gives you a good idea of where they are, although they are not marked. The easiest quarry to see is at the VC parking lot. The entire lot is in a quarry! You can also easily see the vertical wall of the quarry that was just to the north from the parking lot and from the sidewalk up to the VC. The train tracks ran along the north side of County Line Road where it intersects with Rt.23. Heading west from there it branched off in several directions. I have not seen any evidence of the rail bed. VF is truly a fun place to explore. Someday you should look for the remnants of the Schuylkill Navigation in the park. BTW the old spring water plant is on the Mt. Misery Trail. It is easy to find.
Thanks for the info. I did check the national park service website before heading there. County Line Road is only restricted to the public Monday through Friday, as I was there on Saturday. I also located where the bottling plant was so there will be a return trip to document that and the rest of the quarries sometime in the future when there are no leaves on the trees and everything is dead.
Cool monuments and log cabins. Loved the church bells too
Very awesome, Randy. Never been there so it was really nice to see all of that. Can't wait for the return trip! Thank you for sharing! Loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Worked at valley forge for 3 years with the park service. Could show you exactly where everything is at. Park is full of coyotes and red fox.
38:30 the single track is making me giddy! Coyote’s just make your heart rate jump a little and add to the fun. I see them and foxes occasionally when I ride Southside Birdsboro Preserve in the early morning.
Love your work. 👍👍🇺🇸 Just a heads up, you have two of the same clips recycled when you pass those girls on the trail and talk about Chapel trail. 6:22 and 7:50
These things happen from time to time.
From what ive seen the power plant isnt going to be built in renovo. That light tower was at the former train station i lived right across the street from it in the mid 90s. I use to be fond of that town but not anymore that plase is sadly dieing slowly the power plant may of saved it but not now i think in 30 years it will be a ghost town. Imo. Great video thanks for sharing
Hello again from Mohnton. Cool find 👍👍🇺🇸
Wow what memories I drove school bus all through there in the 90’s I had a run to Gateway Christian school and my ex mother in law lived at the first farm on Hardt Hill Road the were the Esterly’s I had relatives in Alburtis my father ran those roads all the time thanks for the memories.
Glad you liked it. And I am very familiar with the Esterly farm.
Rode this today. Bad part from RACC over the 183 Bridge. Really Bad Area.
Yeah, I didn't feel too comfortable either riding through that stretch.
the good ol' rainbow sun
I recently did a trivia night at my local Italian-American Club and ut was really fun just like this! Awesome job!
Thanks!
