#12 A multi-cultural mix of keks, rakia and birthday piñata
Piñatas are neither traditional nor very popular in Bulgaria. At least, they weren't until recently. But we thought it would be fun to let the kids go wild in the yard. To add a local touch we were lucky to find a very special ingredient from our childhood: sweets called "Caramel MU" and "Lakta"'. They were some of the few we had back then. On the other hand, if there's one thing from the Balkans that the whole world knows, it's rakia. Eli's father makes limited quantities from various fruits: fig, grape, apricot, and persimmon (which we call paradise apple in Bulgaria).

While we were painting our exterior walls, a friendly stray cat appeared. We called her Kometa. Kometa kept us company night and day, even fought off another big male off the yard. Our plan is to finish second floor by the end of the year and we are pushing forward. #3 Taking on the jungle in our yard

While knocking off every single fruit from the trees, heavy rains also turned our yard into а jungle in less than a month. There is a lot to be dealt with - 30-year old ivy, spreading all around the house and choking the vines (in which evidently also lives a grass snake we now call Smookey), huge wild rose bushes that block pathways, a couple of dead trees and a whole Decare of meter-tall weed...

It seems our families were equally excited about the house. They rushed to clean up the yard and give us a helping hand here and there. Work in the countryside can be exhausting, but very satisfying.
