Marine Astronomical Navigation - Video 18: Altitude Correction of Moon
Celestial Astronomy is a very interesting subject if understood in a correct way. The teachers are responsible in a big way to make it interesting or otherwise. Even the non mariners might find this subject interesting. Capt. S.S. Chaudhari, who has been teaching the subject for last 30 years, works on this series of videos to share his knowledge and motivate the young marines. Capt Chaudhari explains why and how sextant altitude of Moon is corrected in a different way.

Thank you sir
Thank you sir. Short to point best explaination I have been looking for.
Excellent video sir
Thanks for your brilliant explanation! You are doing a truly great job for people worldwide. Could you give me a prompt, please, what the abbreviations Mgy, qgy stand for? In the context: …the heeling moments due to grain shift Mgy calculated assuming the standard void depth … and …the angle of heel due to grain shift qgy is not greater than 120 … I will appreciate your clarifying! Thanks in advance! With kind regards from Russia!
Thank you for sharing❤
Great explanation
Thanks
Sir from where do we get the own rolling period of the ship i.e. value of T0
Measure it when ship continues to roll while the influencing waves have died down or are non significant.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 Got it sir, thanks a lot.
Great videos sir . Thanks a lot for the guidance 😃
Thanks
Good evening SIr.if the gyrocompass is tuned schuler tuning there is no N/S speed error.the is only damping error.
N/S speed error is corrected by latitude and speed correctors not the Schuler tuning. ST balances error no 3 & 4.
Thank you Sir for your Detailed explanation ❤❤❤🙏
Thanks & Welcome
Sir could you please define ‘heave on to wind ‘?
Keeping the wind 4 points on P or S bow to prevent synchronous / parametric rolling / surfing / broaching to.
Thank you sir for the clearing the concept of PRM with simple explanation.🙏
Thanks for the good words.
Clear and concise explanation of the topic
Thanks for the good words.
Thank you for such excellent explanation which certainly would clear many doubts of even senior mariners. since I am an engineer and I have witnessed myself that pilots , while berthing, give a momentary dead slow astern and as soon as it turns on air , they stop the engine. So on Right hand propeller ship, they would do this to swing the stern towards port side to attain max lever with the ship at rest, thereby utilising maximum transverse thrust to cause ship stern to move towards port and bow to stbd side. Is my understanding right? Please give your comment , I shall be very thankful and look fwd for your reply Best Regards
Thanks. Appreciate. You are absolutely correct.
Sir good explanation. All your videos are informative. Thanks sir for giving us your valuable times
Thanks for the Good Words.
Nicely explained sir 🙏👍
Thanks for the good words.
Thanks a lot Legendary master ❤
Thanks for the good words.
Sir, could you answer in a sequence related to ISPS. Vessel about to depart from port A for port B, the agent for port B advised Master that the Port B has security Level 2 due to some security threat. Master’s Action !

What is w in tide table
Read the notation which is written next to W, for example, they may ask you to refer a special table or a special procedure.
Sir How to identify the Np and Sp Level of a Standard port?
Part 2of the Tide volume.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 I can also see the MSL and the Range Ratio of the the Secondary Port in the Part 2 Sir?
Sir, what about the correction for bodily rise. So the final drafts will change accordingly. Pls clarify sir
Excellent in depth explanation of sync rolling sir.
Thanks for the good words.
Sir the Intact stability varies with ship length
Thank you sir
❤❤❤
Sir 3/4 collision clause and both to blame are same ?
Congrats
Very informative video sir.Appretiating your efforts to make such a wonderful videos
Thanks for the good words.
Very well explained sir.Thank you so much sir😊

Thankyou sir

Best explanation sir for the signs of the rods 🫡
Sir I have one question What is "Heave To" In Heavy weather?
Keeping winds about to 1 to 4 points in very rough weather to prevent excessive slamming, synch rolling, parametric rolling.

Sir at 14:06 minutes you used term maximum separation between two curves, can u please clarify sir
Take a divider. By trial & error method check, at what angle the distance between the GZ curve and (lambda 0 lambda 40 curve) is maximum.
Hi sir. I have some doubt. What is the Maximum latitude the moon obtains? How many degrees in longitude moon moves in a day or week or month? How to calculate. Could you please make a video ?
Sure in near future. Maximum declination is 28.75 degrees n/s. The lunar day is variable and the time is found when the LHA of moon is 0 (crossing meridian), on successive days. Suppose, it is 24.84 hours on any day, then 360 degrees divided by this value will give hourly rate of change of longitude or meridian or GHA of Moon.
Dear Sir, kindly help me with the following question regarding Ship Shore safety checklist bulk carriers. When do we review and recheck Ship Shore Safety checklist ? Thank you sir.
Relevant to cargo operations for eg. BLU Code.
Very helpful and easy thanks sir
Thanks for the good words.
So if i'm a PDV following traffic lane and i ve got fishing vessels crossing from my starboard side... It shall not impede my passage, but if it ignored this rule and risk of collision exists already - i'm becoming a give-way vessel according to rule 18?
Yes.
Rule 8f - 3 applies @smith1760
Sir pls can you explain which one is more stable is partly grounded or fully grounded
You mean pivoted on ground or grounded. Though loss of stability (virtual) is directly proportional to reduction of buoyancy by water but in grounded condition if the bottom is supported well the ship is not likely to capsize.
WOW ! I feel so lucky to have come across your channel. Very informative videos with wide range of topics covered. Thank you Capt. :)
Thanks for the nice words.
