Once you get in plan to get out. Understand cash flow. Make sure everything is organized and easy to transfer. Transparency about contracts. Know where the business is at in the market for that specific industry using the NAICS. The #1 Biggest myth is that “the business will sell easily.” You want to get the right value for it. There’s work to be done before you sell your business. Do the work. #2 . 80% of businesses do not sell at all. #3 If you’ve invested everything to this business and you sell it, this will take an emotional toll on your life. Prepare for the thing you want to do next to make a better transition when it’s time to let go. A mistake is waiting til the last minute to sell your company. Prepare, prepare, prepare, build your confidence and understand your business to have it pitched and sold. Exiting doesn’t always mean selling to someone you don’t know yet. Most deals are seller financed Which means you can go to the SBA and we get an attachment to the purchase agreement to pay back the loan over a certain time at a certain interest rate. The new business owner gets less money up front but gets the funding. There has to be a structure in place so that the company doesn’t fail after being acquired. You want the new business owner/client to no longer need the previous owner. ≈20% passes the business to generation 1 Less than 8% passes the business to generation 2 Double down and make the sell when there’s still energy in the owner, or sell the assets and dissolve the company. Build the BUSINESS not just the product. Think about the business separate from yourself. Build something that can stand alone on its own two feet. For a franchise, follow the recipe. Don’t focus too long on becoming good at something you don’t really want to do. If you want to exit, you need to exit and get help from people who know what they’re doing. Loneliness, isolation, and the ability to motivate yourself. Startups are not glamorous. You’re dealing with something that until you’re successful, no one cares. You have to be IRRATIONAL to be an entrepreneur. Have a support network of entrepreneurs. Have something that will help you get through the beating. The journey of entrepreneurship takes a toll on the entrepreneur AND everyone along the process. It takes a beating on the marriage the children the friends. Advice: 1) Entrepreneurship has seasons. There has to be a transition from employment to business owner. It doesn’t mean you have to be full time 2) There is NOT a number that’s worth sacrificing your family. The work will always be there. Your family and important people in your life might not. If you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans. Another/Next level of income won’t matter. They care more about your presence than the extra money and promotions you made. 3) Have God with me through the day as dialogue. You have to have the quiet time and space away from everything to bring God in. If it’s what you’re suppose to be doing, make the adjustments to receive and do the things that your heart pulls you to. 💎💎💎💎 great podcast
