    4 week training is not enough. They should be trained at a college for at least 6 months.

    - The majority of calls are never emergencies - Revolving door staff / demoralised staff - Non existent or box ticking leadership - Vanishing GPs off loading their workload to ambulance crews - Endless paperwork and data gathering for benign medical problems - Toxic 111 safety and "please everyone" culture - No beds left to offload at A&E - People left on the floor for 5 hours+ The list goes on... :-)

    You forgot to add that the amount of people leaving front line ambulance work is an amazingly high percentage. After 18 years I have finally left to work in a PCN. The mental and physical strains were just becoming untenable.

      As someone who has worked in the ambulance service, may I ask you about the mental and physical strains you had? Quick background I'm currently doing an access course in Health professions and I have an interview for a paramedic science degree next week (going through the whole UCAS phase of my intended career at the moment). Do you feel as though the resources you are given, maybe in relation to dealing with a difficult job on shift, or just with sheer workload are inadequate, or maybe even non-existent? I've no doubts this is the career I want to do, but I guess your insight into the current issues the ambulance service currently has would be appreciated :)!

    Another feeble bite size topic which beats around the bush that the majority of 999 calls and blue right responses are never emergencies. The ambulance service and other parts of the NHS have slept walk themselves into the corner of trying to appease everyone. No longer is it a service for life-threatening emergencies but something that tries to placate every minor ailment or interprets every complaint over the phone as some catastrophic event no matter how pathetic it sounds. Patient's seem to never be asked to make their own way or get a taxi. Don't want to wait long at A&E? Well, better send you an ambulance instead. Repeat caller cries wolf for the 100th time? This time it might be different. Etc. Clinicians feel no support for when they see a situation for what it is. Instead they take irrelevant observations, document information which will go unread, and waste a good hour waiting on the phone for a 111 GP to prescribe a slightly stronger does of co-codamol for Mary's 10 year history of backpain. I wonder if the public truly understands the actual work the ambulance service carries out?

      The public, and many GPs and other health professionals, see us as a glorified taxi service.

    It is ridiculous. I am flexible staff but working three days per week at all the busy areas from the Trust, ED, A&E, ACU, MAU... and not a signal or message to receive my jab, while the office staff, who could be at home working, were the first even before was announced the jab was getting distributed.

    Whilst paramedics don’t receive true support in leaving people at home, we will always find E.D will always be the default. Our skills and knowledge have increased exponentially over the last ten years. The support of us in this job haven’t. It’s just not worth losing your registration. As far as the vehicles, equipment and technology, that’s what happens when a government starves the NHS of funds.

    What is the framework and standard which defines appropriate and safe blue light training?

    • @willastle9623
      @willastle9623 6 лет назад

      There isn't one. The only requirement to drive under blue lights is that the vehicle is being used for fire and rescue, police, military special forces, or ambulance purposes. Obviously most agencies will require their EMT's/paras to be bluelight trained but there's no official framework in place,
