CFMOTO MT450 NZ REVIEW

What a great bike. It was good to ride something new that I didn't hate. It isn't perfect, but it is definitely capable of putting a smile on your face. Action Power Sports on the North Shore were kind enough to lend me a CFMOTO450MT for a while, so I could get a good feel for it. I took it back a bit dirty, but hopefully, they didn't mind too much. I have a Anakee Wild on the front of my Desert X, but i have had it come off the bead once so im too scared to run low pressures. I keep it at about 34psi.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam 3 дня назад

      The Desert-X has tubeless rims. I think you can't run super low pressures with those. I would have thought 24psi would have been easily do-able... It is possible the Wild's construction could be different, in it's 'tubeless' variant... I might be wrong though.

      I think as the Tangata Whenua, they believe they are the 'first people' of New Zealand and that the suggestion that someone was here before undermines that. I think suggesting a freak 'tumble of rocks' suggests otherwise could be seen (reasonably) as controversial. Check out my other video on this to clearly see the natural origin of this unusual formation.

    Yes try a CB500X (Now known as an NX500...) I'd be very interested in what you' think of them. I have a Suzuki V-strom 250SX, I kind of wish I had splurged out for a CB500X, having an extra 20hp on the open road, and 40kg more down low has to be an advantage! I can let you have a blat on my 250SX for a comparison... It would be interesting to see if my impression of the advantages of another 20hp and 40kg down low are true to life. for a fair comparison, a tyre upgrade may be necessary, I got rid of the Dangerously slippery and wanderrie MRF's over 3000Km ago, and I'm really glad I did, the current Pirelli MT60's make it worlds better (and Safer)

    Africa Twin owner and in the latter part of my 60's. Also a HP snob. Thinking seriously about downsizing because I think my off road days are pretty much behind me. When I do drop it, the lift is becoming really tough so it is probably time to swallow my pride and sell up. Thinking about the new Royal Enfield Bear or, the much more road focused and more powerful, Triumph Trident 660 full power. Picking the Enfield will mean I can still ride hardpack and picking the Triumph I'll be road only. Hope you keep riding the trails for a good while yet.

    Have you ever tested or ridden a kawasaki versys 300? Or maybe the suzuki vstrom 250. I want adventure capable but still light. Currently running a Grom set up for adventure riding and a tad bigger would be nice, just felt the CF moto and Himalayan felt heavy.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam 20 дней назад

      I have not ridden either. But looking at the specs you are 100% correct; They are significantly lighter than the CFMOTO and Himalayan. I seriously considered buying a Versys 400 when they came out. It looks like an excellent bike. When I was on the BMW ride around Rotorua a couple of years ago, a 300X came screaming up behind me and past on a gravel rd. Pretty impressive. The engine is low, the seat height is pretty friendly, and they should be around second-hand. Kawasaki have a new 500 coming out I think. Be interesting to see what that is like. Although I can't imagine it will be as cost effective as the 300X, or anywhere near as light. No one makes light bikes anymore, so maybe one of these older bikes could be superior. what about motoz tracionator gps?

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam 26 дней назад

      Great question/suggestion. I had considered the GPS first, but had too much negative backlash, from motorcyclists and Tyre shops. The GPS fills the same market sector as tyres like the Heidenau scout. It is designed for light off-road use, comfort on road, and mileage. With this in mind, they are only suitable for those on tight budgets who want the maximum tyre life and typically ride conservatively. I have installed a MOTOZ RALLYZ on the rear, (Just to try something new). The RALLYZ is designed for more aggressive off-roading and is made out of much softer rubber, with more silicon content for better grip in the wet. I briefly had the ADVENTURE on the back (Fitted accidentally by the tyre shop). The ADVENTURE has a harder compound, less silicon (or no silicon) and is designed to be slightly less aggressive and harder wearing. Neither the ADVENTURE, nor the RALLYZ have adequate traction for dry tarseal riding. They break loose under hard acceleration. The RALLYZ starts to slide in dry conditions at moderate speeds and conservative lean angles. The RALLYZ looks like it should give good mileage. It is superior to the MITAS E07+ on gravel (IMHO), may be fractionally better on dirt and mud. It will be dangerous in wet road conditions. It will be dangerous in emergency situations under hard breaking (Unless you have ABS). I would not fit a MOTOZ tyre to the front of my motorcycle. I'll do an actual review of my MOTOZ tyre, once I have worn it out. Hope that was helpful. BEST REGARDS CAMPBELL ROUSSELLE :)

    If the velocity is your problem just put a front sprocket with one more tooth and problem solved... But this kind of bike doesn't need to be fast, it needs to be playful, easy and reliable, the 450 MT has everything we need! 👍

      Agreed, gearing this up would have almost all down-sides. If someone was thinking of buying this as a tourer, for interstate riding, they are looking at the wrong bike. However, As with most modern bikes, if only it weighed 10kg less and made 10hp more... 😜😜😋😋😉😉😇

    In your video on the Africa twin off-road you were hating the Anakee though, like a lot...? Or was that the AX? Also I'm running the 07+ front and rear. They are definitely happier at ~18psi front 20 rear max.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam Месяц назад

      When I shot the video series - "NOOB vs VETERAN, DR650 vs Africa Twin", I had changed my front tyre to an AX41. This was because the trip was coming up and I couldn't purchase an Annakee Wild (I love the Wild, in case you missed that on this video). I really hated the AX41 (it is still on my bike now) for the first 2,000kms. It doesn't grip in the wet that well, is SUPER sensitive to pressures, and is HORRFIC under hard braking. It is slightly better now, and I generally run it around 30-32psi on the road, and around 26-27psi off-road. I wouldn't run less than 26psi as it is very lightly constructed. I imagine I would damage my front rim over rocks and tree-roots. Additionally, it isn't safe on the brakes at less than 26psi, as it collapses and brakes traction. Whilst, the Annakee wild is a true 50/50 (70/70), the AX41 is more of a 30/30. I don't think an E07+ on the front would give me enough confidence on the front.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam Месяц назад

      The DR650 is the GOAT. That's why they are still selling them, mostly unchanged, 40years later. However, I've had two; A stock one I loved, and a 'blinged out' one I really didn't like that much. I'm not really keen on buying another one. Been there done that. Also, I can only afford one bike, and I like road riding. I ride with older, fast blokes, who mostly ride Litre class bikes. We ride fast, and with a DR650 geared for off-road duties, 138kph flat out isn't suitable, or that much fun. 2hrs of riding at max revs on the throttle stop is a bit stressful and not mechanically sympathetic. A DR650 would let me go harder places, but the trade-off isn't worth it to me. If I had a garage and was coined up, I'd probably have an XR650, my Africa Twin, a CFMOTO450MT, a KTM1290ADVR, and a GSXR750, ZX636, Hayabusa, and maybe a Ninja 650 for road duties. Hoping to ride the CFMOTO 800X soon. Would love to look at, or buy a KOVE 800X, or maybe even the 450 Rally. CHEERS HEAPS, CAM FROM NZ :)

I think Giant Loop are out of the question for him, due to cost ($1500 - $1800nz or something). I wouldn't buy them for that reason either, also they wouldn't fit on the Africa Twin, unless I removed the rack off the back and I love the handles for picking it up. Currently, I'm rocking some RhinoWalk bags - $210 including shipping. They are awesome and I'm buying another bigger set. I gather you use Giant Loop. They look like a decent product. The second hand motor cycle market in Australia and most anywhere is shot to shit, this bike will change the way we all think about pricing and value for money and probably make the japanese lift their game as Hyundai and Kia did. Motorcycling is not attracting young people and therefore the market is shrinking and buyers are realising that motor cycles are way way overpriced. It will be interesting to see what this bike starts as in possible new riders. Rode a CF MOTO 450 the other week and ordered one with crash bars, tall seat and B and B bash plate on road for $9800.00 Aussie, great value and there are a ton of accessories if required.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam Месяц назад

      Agree 100% The Chinese and India are disrupting the market and simultaneously saving the sport. The pricing of these bikes and the quality and value for money will start to attack new buyers and new riders to the market. Additionally, we may even see the mainstream manufacturers get off their lazy 'chuffs' and at least attempt to improve real motorcycle performance.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam Месяц назад

      Here's a quick breakdown of my thoughts. APPEARANCE = Both great, take your pick - ADV, or Scrambler COMFORT = 450MT (Low seat, perfect standing ergos for my 5'10", not enough legroom, seat good, weather protection good) Himalayan (Taller seat height, more legroom, shorter reach to the bars, seat ok - but pushes you forward into the tank, slightly more aggressive stance standing, weather protection poor) MOTOR = 450MT (Smooth, linear to the point of being boring, better torque down low, happier to lug, smoother, less vibey, possibly better top-end). Himalayan (Lumpy, punchy, quick through the 'mid-range' fun, needs more revs to pull away smoothly) SUSPENSION = 450MT (Good, firm, stiff, could handle 95kg rider plus some gear, holds up in the stroke well, harsh, mostly adjustable, bit wooden, lacks some feedback, better than a bike this price usually is) Himalayan (Firm, plush, better damping, soaks up bumps, comfort, fantastic, no adjustment) BRAKES = 450MT (Bit wooden, but that could be the front end feedback, decent power, ABS good on rd, not great in slippery stuff IMHO) Himalayan (Bit wooden, but might be better than the 450MT, decent power, great rear brake, ABS??? fine on road, offroad - not sure) RELIABILITY = Unknown, but good reports for the 450MT, apart from minor issues such as frame catching water, Himalayan should be good, but some frame breakages... I'm not too sure in general, but it's definitely worth the gamble for what you get for the money. We'll all know for sure in 6-9 months. HIMALAYAN = Feels like a DR650 with upgrades to every part. CFMOTO MT450 = Feels like a down-sized Africa Twin. HOPE THAT HELPS CHEERS CAM FROM NZ :)

I'd like a tank bag that fits better, but that really entails building a whole new gas tank. Why the ADV bikes have these 'peaked' tanks is beyond me. Cheers to you sir :)🎊✨

Currently, having it switched to the rallyz. Hoping it will have enough Rd grip. Will probably try running it at 20psi in the wet, if it doesn't build heat at higher pressures.

      I actually found it seemed like it wanted to 'tuck' the front at really low speeds, but that sensation wasn't at all present at any normal to quick pace. Did you notice this? I'm wondering if it has something to do with geometry being steep. I think "Big Rock Moto" said something about this too. If it has steeper geometry than other modern ADVs, it could be why it steers so well at pace. Feels more like a road bike than the CFMOTO450MT... thoughts??

      @@actstuntcam haven't ridden the CF Moto, but like anything else, impressions depend on your frame of reference. Found it to feel lighter, faster, and at low speeds, like a U turn, much more stable than my CB500x. No feeling of the front tucking was detected. Predictably more vibey, especially under throttle. That's about the only neg comment I can make about it. Admittedly only had about 30 mins on it, with no off road or poor surface. Might have to go back next weekend for another go ...

      @@ajcaine My uneducated opinion (Having not ridden the CB500X) is that the CB will be a way better tourer, motorway mount, and fractionally worse on a gravel road. The Himalayan would allow you to stray a long way off the pavement. If you can't see yourself on hard-ish 4WD tracks, or easy single track, I'd stick with the CBX... But as I say, take that with a pinch of salt.

      @actstuntcam 3 месяца назад

      You are most welcome. I liked them both. I think the cf450mt fits me better though. I also think it is happier to lug at slow speeds and happier to rev at high speeds. The engine is much smoother, but lacks the punch of the himalayan. The himalayan has better suspension and steers way better.

      Actually, RPM is 5,800 at 100kph. Redline is 8,500RPM and MAX RPM is between 9,000-10,000RPM. This is a small engine with light internals. It is very smooth and designed to rev (Unlike the Himalayan 450). This means you are pulling around 70% of max revs at 100kph. This is approximately 2/3rds. That is pretty reasonable for a small-capacity bike and I imagine it'd pull these revs all day, every day, without a problem. At 100kph, it still has plenty for overtakes, without changing down.

    • @actstuntcam
      @actstuntcam 3 месяца назад

      Great question. I haven't ridden the CB500X. However, looking at it on paper and from what I know about it: The engine is supposed to be great, better than what the specs on paper show; Honda reliability and it is a known quantity (The engines been around for a while now); Weight is only fractionally more at 199kg wet (although it depends what it feels like); 19" front rim - plenty good enough for gravel rds and riding 4WD tracks at sensible speeds; It will probably be more comfortable sitting than the CFMOTO. A new CB500X is only slightly dearer than the MT450 (Another $2,750nz). A low km, mint condition CB500X should be around $10,000nz, or less. Honestly, that looks like a pretty compelling case for the Honda for your suggested riding. However, the MT450 would be worth considering, if you want to make off-road and gravel fractionally easier and it would give you the confidence to go a bit further off-road. If that isn't something you are interested in, I'd go for the CB500X. Ultimately, ride both and see which makes you smile more. Bikes are super subjective. CHEERS CAM :)

      Is that available in NZ yet? I have seen a bunch of videos and comments that say it solves, or improves throttle response, so it is definitely worth getting the firmware update. In regards to the throttle cable, I wasn't saying it caused the snatchy throttle response, I was suggesting it was exacerbating it. Removing throttle slack and 'driveline lash' improves bikes with snatchy throttles massively. Apologies, if you misunderstood. Cheers for the comment.
