Finding Agates in Oregon
This week here in Oregon, like a lot of places, experienced a heat wave. What better than to head out to the forest with your kids and do a little rockhounding!

A day on the River. Finding agates!

We went to our favorite river access, and although it was extremely cold, we stayed for a couple of hours and found a couple of nice agates! As well as some nibbly fish!

That is common opal. Opalite is man-made glass.
Yes, unfortunately opalite nowadays is a trade name for man made glass, but this is what it used to be called. It's an older name for common opal. It's also what the locals here call what yadenite is made from :) It's unfortunate that most people think what's now considered opalite is actually a real stone.
@noctualuna you're right. After some research and a good friend telling me the difference between cinnabar opalite and man-made opalite, I now know the truth.
@JoshuaLevigems I learned about it a couple years ago. It was pretty fascinating!

The entire country has this problem, and when you pick up dried sea grass plastic flakes come out. This is why you eat a credit card of plastic per week. Unfortunately, the credit card of plastic has no card limit 🤷

One time in Northern California, we came across some serpentine that had some asbestos! Those did not come home with us!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that! It is a mixing bowl found at a thriftstore. It had some damage and no markings. I was just a bit sticker shocked.
