I apologize this post is lengthy. Your less than 30-minute video made me feel more validated and understood than any couples therapy I've had. I was in a high-conflict relationship for ten years; we separated almost a year ago and tried couples therapy during the separation, which made things worse. Over the past month, we're not even on speaking terms. There was so much love, but the frustration and anger of not caring for each other's hearts ultimately was our demise. We gave up on each other because there was so much finger-pointing. i.e., I didn't think he could see his stuff, and he thought I didn't own my stuff - and round and round we went 😮‍💨. Two intelligent, loving, and great individuals at a standstill. He thought that I was the problem and that if I did not hear what I liked in therapy, I quit and would jump from therapist to therapist. In all honesty, I quit couples therapy because there was no process or goals in place, and no viable changes were occurring. In addition, the sessions focused on me since I had all the anger, and since he acted "in control" and even-tempered, I was portrayed as the problem, and the microscope seemed to focus on the loudest in the room (me) - which did not feel well balanced. In my opinion, therapy just gave him tools to protect himself, which ultimately hurt me even more because the gaslighting and ability to retreat now had a therapeutic word attached to it called "boundaries." The quiet one felt he had to acquiesce and tell the angry one (me) what I wanted to hear to create peace. Still, he continued to do whatever he wanted without regard to the partnership, and I continued feeling invisible and fighting to be heard - but only sounded like a nagging hyena. It was a vicious cycle. We each felt disrespected and unloved, and therapy offered no tools to resolve this. Although we are separated, I don't want to carry all this discord for him. So, with the challenges above in mind, how do I find the right therapist who offers tools to help an individual coming out of a high-conflict relationship work through frustration and anger? I feel I am a bad picker when it comes to finding a well-versed therapist. My ex thinks I want to find a therapist who agrees with me when all I really want is a therapist who understands the dynamics that you mention in the video ( i.e., that both people contribute- not just the loudest being at fault). I was open to owing my stuff but also wanted my partner to acknowledge their stuff. Can you do a video on how to find the right therapist? 😍.

the truth is the difference is percerption. if you like the person its confidence if you dislike em its arrogance. as all the diffences between the 2 basocally rest on the perception of where the comments are coming from. i may factually be a better therapist then my peer so stating such would be a fact not arrogance. For someone to ignore this fact or shade it, shows a lack of confidence, that one might not feel they deserve recognition for their work...if we wanted to push the story down that line. my point is it seems that if the source is the root of the difference and the source is unknowable and based solely in perception, then its fair to assume personal bias take place . therefore a confidence ahole is arrogant, and an arrogant superstar is just confident..

What if you have pride and confidence? Knowing you are better than someone and being proud of that without using it to tell someone

All the more reason to keep it to yourself, or help them . Because arrogant people look down, confident people wanna see others level up to where they should be . Because we don’t see it as a race
