Lecture 10 | Program for Multiple Turning Cycle | Roughing Cycle | G71 | CNC Machining Programming
The G71 roughing cycle enables us to remove material quickly on a CNC Lathe while also writing the cutter path as a subroutine that can be reused during the finishing cycle (G70).
The syntax for this is:-
G71 U R;
G71 P Q U W F;
Here,
U - Depth of cut in X axis
R - Relief (Retraction) amount
P - Starting block of the profile
Q - Finishing block of the profile
U - Finishing allowance in X axis
W - Finishing allowance in Z axis
F - Feed Rate
G71 is our G-Code that lets the controls know that we wish to use a roughing cycle and that the following information applies to that.

Sir, if we are setting the X0 Z0 point along the centreline,then shouldnt we be using X16 instead of X32 ( like the radius,since the X0 Z0 is at the centre)?
Dear @HelloBe-mo6ni thanks for your comments. Kindly note that X value here is representing the diameter value only not radius. If we give X16 then the controller will give the command to the cutting tool to reach at 16 diameter value which will be wrong. I recommend you to watch my Lecture no. 2. Here I have explained the concepts of axis in detail. It will be useful for you to understand.

Thanks for the question Zaki. Slider crank mechanism can be used in many application where rotory motion is converted into translation or reciprocating motions. Let me mentioned some of the examples so that you got your answer: 1. Internal Combustion Engines like in Automobiles cars, trucks, bikes etc. 2. Hand Pumps Etc.
