[accepted] Brown Video Portfolio - Class of 2025
Here is the Brown Video Portfolio I submitted for my ED application. In this video I narrate my process for writing a short film script. Screenwriting is a passion of mine and I hope this gives you a good idea of what the craft involves.

What software are you using to write to your screenplay? I’m interested in learning how to properly format them so I can add a bunch of stuff to my college portfolios that’s not just novels. I’ve only written one very poorly formatted movie screenplay using the same software I write novels on.
I use Finaldraft. It is the industry standard but is very pricey, even with student discounts. I'd recommend trying out some free alternatives. I started with Celtx and also used Writerduet, which is pretty widely loved to my knowledge. Both may come with some restrictions but are good starting points.

Nice to see your video which is really helpful for my idea of porfolio for scholarship application. I am preparing the application for the master scholarship of screen writing but I have no idea of how to make a porfolio in video or paper. It would be great if I have your advice. Thank you so much!

which major did you apply for or are planning to do?
I think biology/public health. Though brown doesn’t make you apply for a major and you don’t declare it until the end of your sophomore year, so I don’t think it impacted my application.

Im an avid screenwriter as well, glad to see someone my age doing it for fun too
i have a question, did you only submit a video? were there other questions? im interested in this applying process because it seems like such a unique and creative idea
Brown is one of a few schools that allow applicants to submit a supplemental video. This year it replaced the interview but there were still 3 supplemental essays for brown (in addition to the common app essay). Most students use the video to talk about themselves, but I decided to do a more artsy video to compliment my STEM focused application. I think the deadline for Brown videos passed for this year but I’m assuming you’re a junior?

Totally, I didn't think I could be impressed by a circle before watching this. Glad to know that I was not the only one amazed by his circle lol
I love the shot with the mug in the background, really subtle and blurry but you can clearly make out the Brown U logo. You ED'd so obviously they already know they're your #1, but I just thought it was a cool detail (or maybe it was accidental haha).

It’s from papermate and you can find it pretty much everywhere. I’ve used a bunch of high end mechanical pencils and still prefer the feel of this one even though it’s cheaper. Super consistent.
