    Question. Where does the white ground wire off the harness itself connect to ?

    This was detailed and very helpful! Thanks! I also found this guide useful during the install. It has info on the New Gound Wire. www.subaruonlineparts.com/docs/L101SXC005-2023.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOoo0gzI2OP8yJ2uhVMg-kr7r_scDgIZOCxv0dSmA1q14mq4qglMD

      @@subierecycler3487 Same procedure, but there are some changes to some of the parts. There are no more side plates, you use silicone (I used paint), and some new white round clips that replace the stock ones on the plastic trim pieces. Other than that, install is the same.

    What a great video. I planned to have it installed at a Subaru delearship though after watching this I believe i can do it myself and save a good amount of money. The dealership wants around 500 for the parts and 500 for labor. I have a 2023 Ascent, where can I purchase the htich? From Subaru dealer @ $500?

      Some Subaru parts dealers will price match online prices. I found this one on SubaruOnlineParts.com for $431 + shipping. www.subaruonlineparts.com/sku/l101sxc004.html

    anyone know the part number for the wiring harness?

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 6 месяцев назад

      From what I have been able to find there is no specific part number for the trailer brake wiring harness, meaning that it is probably not able to be purchased separately from the hitch. There are aftermarket options from etrailer.com but I don't know if they are plug and play like the Subaru harness is.

    Thanks for the video! My 2023 packaged hitch didn't come with instructions, so very needed video. I will add that there is a chassis ground wire that was added to the hitch wiring harness section. put it on a chassis ground and its should be good.

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 Год назад

      Install costs can vary widely from dealership to dealership. We were quoted about $650 for the install on this hitch, which is why we decided to make the video and show people how to save some money.

    Great video - it gave me confidence to do this myself on my '22 Ascent Limited. Maybe due to part update but ground wire install instruction is missing. If you search for L101SXC005 on Subaru Parts Pros, there's a detailed installation PDF on how to secure the ground wire.

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 Год назад

      Any Subaru dealership should be able to get it for you. There are other aftermarket+ brands of hitches as well, Uhaul, Curt etc, but in our opinion the OEM hitch is the strongest option on this vehicle.

    Great video! I just bought the L101SXC005 kit from my dealer to install on my 2022 Ascent. It includes the H771SXC002 wiring harness (with a sticker on it that says "New Ground Design". It has a ground wire coming out of the side of the harness that plugs into the car-side plug with a ground ring on it. Also, there is a single screw (p/N 904580002) that is included in the kit (looks like it fits in the ground ring). Anyone have any idea of how this is supposed to be installed or have a link to the instructions for this version?

    Thank you guys for the detailed install demo! I just installed the 004 (updated version according to Subaru…) using this as the guide. Went off without a hitch! I’m pretty handy, but was a little worried about tackling it myself. After watching the video and following along it was easy! The new ‘updated’ 004 version doesn’t include the receiver (available separately) or the cover plates. It did include the wiring harness for the brake controller, just have to add the controller itself. Thanks again!

I will have the two hitch installed by dealer/subaru, but wanted to know more about what exactly is done to get it installed. Your video took the mystery away and was very easy to understand. Thank you! I will now know exactly what's been done to my future Ascent. :)

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 2 года назад

      As far as we know the hitch did not come as standard equipment, many dealers will add them to vehicles on the lot before they are sold and add the cost to the price of the vehicle.

      @subierecycler3487 3 года назад

      If you use the wiring harness that is shown on the video starting at 8:17 then yes the 7pin has power from the plug in the rear hatch area of the car.

    The pop-its you broke are really easy to remove. To remove, just use a pointy tip to push the button in. It will pop in slightly and click. Then simply pry the pop-it out and it will slip out easily.

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 3 года назад

      Correct, they still like to break so it's a good idea to have some spares.

    This is a perfect video if you want do to it yourself. I've just installed mine and it worked like an Ikea manual. A few things: - the part number I've got was: L101SXC004. This is without the tongue (gonna use it for a bike rack anyway). BUT mine did not have the two black metal cover plates the goes on after you install the the crossbar. No biggie, it doesn't add a lot to the car's integrity, but I was surprised. - also, I'm left with some white pop-it kind of plastic thingamajigs that were in the bag with the twist-off pop-its that allows you to easily remove the cover. No idea what they are 🤷‍♂️ - I managed to remove all the pop-its without breaking one. If you take a minute and inspect one of them, it's easy to realize how they work. Basically you need to use your removal tool between the washer looking thing and the circular thing. The one in the wheel well is the special one, you just need to push in the middle. Also, I learned a lot about my car during the process, so that's an added bonus!

    My 1/4 twist rivets came with a small washer. I didn't see one with yours. Is it not needed?

    • @subierecycler3487
      @subierecycler3487 3 года назад

      If it came with washers I'd probably use them. Subaru updates the kits with new parts all the time, it could just be they ran out of the other style rivets or decided to redesign them.

      Confirmed…purchased the OEM hitch shown here from a Subaru dealership and it does not include the cover plates shown around 10:02 in the vid. I just reinstalled the original bolts where the cover plate should have gone and moved on. Great video guys. Thanks!
