man, catch 33 is my favorite album by them. I have a hand signed poster on my wall. That said, I've been respectfully disappointed by them since about 2008. Each one that comes out seems like they just keep making the same album...they've found their formula and most love it and it works but, I remember an interview where Haake said they pushed their sound to new limits on each new album....really man? We need Thordendall's special defects pt 2, something weird and crazy again. in my opinion that is, one person.

At first I thought I heard that they were donating the teddy bears to charity lol But yeah, UNICEF fucked up on this one, cause alright, just give the proceeds to a different charity

One day I started just dropping things. Losing grip. Turns out I have this nerve issue recently that affected my left arm. Like I slept on it but it's not waking up. Docs said I needed an operation but it costs a lot and it'll probably get worse so fuck THAT. Watching stories like these keep me going and fighting back. I got the index slowly back and the rest are coming slowly. Pinky's still a bit wobbly. I'm not a rockstar, just a weekend player. I've learned that SCIENCE ENDS WHERE THE SOUL BEGINS. I dislike The Crusade as a younger guy but growing up I'm appreciated it the most out of all. Matt is right The Crusade needed to happen.

Remember when the end of heartache dropped.. was a fan for a few years after hearing my last serenade late night on the box. Hated Howard initially, but he grew on me. They honestly need both in the band.

I saw an interview Tati and Eugene did talking about the name. They said they thought about changing it, but they had already built up a reputation under that name, so why bother changing it? Tati's suggestion for a new name was great, though: Human Caterpillar (that's apparently what they called the movie Human Centipede in Ukraine)

I absolutely love Alex. He's a very down to earth person with BEASTLY vocals. I've never heard such a POWERFUL voice with that low gutteral sound. Can't wait to see them live.

To be honest, I don't care for Opeth's newer stuff all that much. I don't hate it, but I'm really unmoved by it. Their death metal years; Deliverance, Blackwater Park, and even the style of their clean stuff back then, like Damnation, was some of the best music I have ever heard to this day. From what I had learned from looking at an interview with Mikael, it was mainly him that wanted to shift directions. I guess not even all the members were quite on board with the change, from the way he made it sound, if I interpreted it correctly. That being said, he is their lead singer and songwriter, so I do feel like it kinda does give him the kind of weight to be able to do with his band what he pleases and take it in whichever direction he so pleases. Though their current style from Heritage forward doesn't hold a candle to the stuff before it, in my opinion, I respect that Mikael no longer felt a passion or connection to that style of music anymore and decided to do what he started feeling more passionate about. If they continued to do the death metal, there's that chance that it could have really dropped off and felt a lot more synthetic because his heart would have no longer been in it. So at the end of the day, I often just go back and enjoy the era of Opeth that I really did enjoy. They may have stepped off of that path, but their death metal albums will always live on and be enjoyed for years to come.
