It is more fair the way it is than what you are proposing. If wild card teams were seeded above division winners then you are having the strength of schedule play a bigger role. For example- the NFC north this year played the AFC south and the NFC west. Not very competitive divisions. Where as the NFC east played the AFC north and the NFC south

Yeah I feel like it should be that division winners and wild cards get in like normal, but instead of it being division winners then wilds, it should be based on wins only. Then teams like Detroit and Minnesota are playing for the 1 and 2 and objectively worse teams like the Rams, Bucs, and Texans are near the bottom 7 like they would be otherwise.
