США

San Diego and Orange County California is a dream for bike riders with thousands of miles of bike paths and unmatched scenery and weather. My goal is to explore it all. I'm excited to share these great rides.

I'm bringing my GPS on this ride!!! What a cool, crazy place! And wow, so vacant!! Thanks again for another surprise!!
Thanks for the comment.
Busy Strand! In the OLD days, it was a two-way street and every Cruiser in town, "Did the Strand" like a parade! Oceanside has not changed much really, but it has cleaned-up a lot and is a great city again. Now they need to dredge the harbor and fill Wiscoonsin street with sand! Great filiming again! But this ride, a little too much like Huntinton in the summer! LOL
This is pretty uncrowded. The Strand is where I got my training for riding larger, more crowded beach paths. They have big plans for the Strand. Creating some sort of buffers so we don't lose so much sand. I'm hoping they will extend it to Buccaneer Park.
I absolutely love the balconies on these buildings !
I'm sure they are a great place to stay.
@12:13 This train must be new or something. May I ask how the Metro schedule is like over the years? Hv they done anything to decrease delay?
Do you mean the station? I've only lived here 5 years. They recently increased the number of trains that depart from Oceanside. There's not a lot they can do about delays. As I understand it, Metrolink does not control all the tracks they travel on. The area near Buena Park is controlled by the freight train company, so if there's an issue on their end the Metrolink trains are delayed. I'd say they are on time 90% of the time, but have been as much as 90 minutes late (usually because of a mechanical issue). Someone abandoned a pickup truck on the tracks and that delayed the train an hour or so. Also, if someone gets run over by a train (which occurs a lot more than you might think, a few times a month I would guess) that can delay the train 1-3 hours while the police investigate.
No handrail anywhere. Interesting.
That isn't all that unusual. They build fences to keep folks out out but most paths don't have handrails otherwise.
@@greatbikeridesofsocal271 OK. I'm in Tucson, Az where all the linear bike paths have handrails. Search for 'Rillito bike path' to see what I mean :)
Its good to get home safe .
My goal every ride.
As always, fun to watch. LOL, I just rode that today, starting from Sunset Beach then down Bolsa Chica. Yep, right now its a paradise. When summer comes, it is a slow poke ride all past the pier! You picked the perfect day to film! And a I have said before, the steady cameraship, is everything to these kids of clips. Kudos.
Thanks. A guy on the train said Huntington Beach would be "packed" despite the fact it was Thanksgiving. I was glad that he was wrong. 🙂
you ended at Bolsa Chica NOT Huntington beach.
I find it odd the Navy would tell you what was there.
My bike got stolen from the Artic bike parking area. It was there for an hour and they cut the cable lock. Never park there if you cannot keep your eye on your bike.
My latest adventure involved Coyote Creek. I rode to the end of the Whittier Greenway extension, about a block from Beach Blvd. I rode over dirt along railroad tracks to Beach, and then south to another Coyote Creek Trail at Imperial. Then all the way down, close to Alondra. Over those streets to the other Coyote Creek Trail. A bit tricky right there.
Godzilla would be right at home there.
Nice trip down memory lane. That is where I took my last So Cal bike ride, about 6 years ago.
That kid on the E scooter must thinks hes invincible lol.
Ward, Another great ride. You missed the heart of the great town of Buena Park! I live about two blocks from the Train Station there on Dale St.
I just took the most direct route. How should I go to see the heart of Buena Park?
@ The old original City Center in the early 1900’s was around Beach Blvd and where the 5 Freeway crosses now. In the last 50 years, there has been a move to relocate all of the shopping stores to the Mall at LaPalma and Stanton Ave‘s. I’ve lived here since 1962. Always looking forward to your next video!
Nice !
I ride this exact path weekly. Just a lot earlier. Wonder how it would be after dark?
Very dark, I would guess. It does not appear to be lit (most trails aren't, outside of Irvine)
Yorba Linda park is very nice, great place to park your car to ride the river trail.
Nice that one can also do El Cajon Trail from there.
Really wished you’d gone the whole way east as I understand another mile or two has been added. Curious about it.
I would like to do the whole thing again. The ideal way would be to take a train up so I could do it just one way. It would involve a 5:39 am train from Oceanside, but otherwise seems to time out well. I could do it all the way from San Bernardino to Anaheim (with a short train ride for the 15 miles with no trail).
That Buzzard had it's eye on you lol .
That was a very interesting ride!!
Glad you enjoyed it. I was a bit frustrated that I kept turning back. I think I could have continued at least once and it would have looped back around. But in east San Diego county roads give way to private roads which give way to unpaved roads. On more than one occasion I thought I had a route on Google maps which end up being a dirt road through private land marked "no tresspassing" and I wasn't willing having to risk pushing the bike back up the steep hill.
Is it relatively flat? My wife and I would like to take the coaster from SD to Oceanside and catch the Metrolink to San Clemente and bike from there to Dana Point to catch the boat to Catalina. We are not on e-bikes so that’s why I’m wondering route is flat.
Where does the ferry to Catalina depart? I did a quick Google search, is it the Newport Bay area? If so I'd take the train to Tustin and take the Mountains to the Sea trail down. That is flat. There's a good-sized hill on Golden Lantern getting you up to the Pacific Coast Hwy and it has some hills as well.
@@greatbikeridesofsocal271 The ferry leaves from Dana Point Harbor.
@@cycologist7069 OK, then yes, the ride along the coast from San Clemente to Dana Point is flat.
@@greatbikeridesofsocal271 Awesome!! Thanks man.
I thought that bike was a Helo too before i saw it lol
Do you ever do morning rides ?
I did in Atlanta when it was getting up to 90-100 during the day. I would need to finish my rides by 10am or it was too hot. Here it gets into the 40s at night and doesn't warm up until noon or so. So no morning rides for me. Also, sometimes the marine laywe doesn't burn off until late morning.
The drone idea was not necessarily for you to film yourself riding along all the time, but more so when you stop to pan. It would be nice to see further and wider cause I noticed that you like nature and things outdoors. A cheap drone if you think you will lose it. Nice ride again.
An interesting idea, thanks.
Hi, Did you do the ride in one day from Carlsbad to Old Town and if so, who’s many batteries?
Yes, one ride, I carry a spare battery. I used the second but only 30% or so.
I like you talking. It helps me manage my battery life with your rides. Thx😊
I appreciate that. I ran out of battery a couple of times before I learned that tip.
Rough ride today...great vid
Thank you for the video! Can’t wait to check it out!!!!
It's an awesome bike trail. Although you do see some homeless in the middle of the river at times. They never caused an issues when I been there.
Agreed. I've never had any issues with homeless.
That's a long hill lol
Those were massive bubbles !
I enjoyed the talking. Thx
Thanks.
another sunny day in the neighborhood .
90 miles in 3 days is super good! Looks peaceful, im going to get myself a bike now! Any recommendations?
Loved it. I used to ride that from California Street to Torrey Pines every weekend. Oh, on a 10 speed, 50 years ago... And you know what, not a lot has really changed! Always fun to watch.
I absolutely love your rides and barely miss one of them. Can you name the streets that you are on? I can figure out most of them but those side streets sometimes are a mystery. Thanks and keep on these wonderful rides. I have an electric bike and use your travels a lot 😊
Thanks. I will try.
Ward, how many miles do you put on the bike every week?
Varies but I'd guess 120 or so.
That Santa Ana River Trail goes on forever! Another great ride!
Thanks so much for these wonderful rides .
Thanks for your support and comments. 🙂
Another beautiful sunset !
You should ignore the trolls or they will make you stop posting. If they can't see it, they can't criticize it. Or turn off comments.
I know if my videos were more successful it would be a lot worse.
I’m a 60 year old roadie. I grew up in Riverside and in my day the bike path did not exist. I live in Chicago, and when I come home to visit I’ve always wanted to ride the Santa Ana River trail from Riverside to the beach. Maybe some day. Thanks for the great video!
It's a beautiful trail.
Thanks, I appreciate the nice comment.
gotta learn the dismount for horses... Dont wanna make us bikers look bad. its the ethical thing to do if you don't agree with it that's fine but it only takes a second. if you notice at 3:16 you spooked the black horse. Your better than that ward if you see one in proximity dismount.
I think you are presuming that I knew of rules and ignored them here, which was not the case. Also, opinions differ among the folks yelling at me here if I'm supposed to dismount or just slow down or stop. Again, no mention of any of this in the signage and I have never seen a biker dismount for a horse. Also nobody can show me where this is a rule or law, just an assumption I'm a jerk for not doing something that I was unaware of. I'll probably stop next time I see horses, but shouldn't get castigated to this extent for not following a law that no one can site.
To bad you couldn't have seen the upper SART years ago before it became a haven for the homeless. All those big tree stumps were large trees that shaded the trail somewhat especially around Riverside proper. Over the years fires along the river mostly from out of control campfires have burned many of them. Perhaps one day the county will put some effort towards restoring and improving the trail.
“Too”
It’s a miracle you made it out without being gayYNG ray-pd! Many hoe-mo’s out there! It’s a filthy haven for rainbow flaggers!
@@AmericanCitizen-nf9xcI’ve always gotten mixed up on the use of to and too. Should have paid more attention in school.
@ ah, you’re a good sport! 😁 Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for posting this.lot of colors wild stuff I like the way they incorporated bicycle wheels and tires in the art.
I will check out your Cheech video.

Another great ride !
Very nice scenery alot better than the anaheim scenery.
Both are nice but this area is special. Too bad it is rather inaccessible. It was a 90 minute drive each way. That's why I only get up there once a year or so.
VERY NICE !!!!
