In 2023 we left our American lives behind and embarked on the journey south. Life is short, world is beautiful and we want to make memories for a lifetime. Episode 52 La Piedra del Penol | Guatape | San Rafael | Sunday Funday on the Guatape River
One of our bucketlist items was a climb of La Piedra del Penol in Guatape. 708 vertical steps to get to the top and admire beautiful views of the local landscape was a must do. Then we went further into the Colombian countryside and enjoyed the Guatape river and surroundings. Colombia has exceeded our expectations so far. We will stay here another month. So much more fantastic adventures to come.

When in Villa De Leyva we visited Casa Terracota, the whimsical house built from clay. The house was designed with beautiful light and showcased many wrought iron artifacts. The house is very functional, even the multiple seating areas on the roof were magnificent. We have traveled in North Colombia. We left La Playa de Belen and drove to Barichara, one of the nicest towns in Colombia. There we walked the Camino Real to Guane. Then we enjoyed Las Gachas water holes. In the end of the week we arrived in Villa de la Leyva for an annual kite festival. What a treat that was. We left Minca in Northern Colombia and drove south along the Caribbean Sea. We arrived in Mompox UNESCO Heritage Site and visited the most beautiful places there. It was hot and humid so we left driving further south to La Playa de Belen and the nearby Los Estoraques National Park. We continued preparing Mundo for container shipping to Colombia. Mundo is a little too tall so Jarek removed the awening and both roof fans. We wanted to avoid deflating tires. We cancelled our hike to the Cerro de la Muerte (elevation 11,322 feet) off highway 2 due to a few symptoms of high altitude sickness. We left Montezuma and headed south towards Dominical/Uvita. We took highway 2 that goes through center of Costa Rica. Why did you choose a Promaster over of a Ford Transit? I know it has nothing to do with the topic of the video, but I'm considering converting my Ford Transit. Thank you. Enjoy my country.
The promaster is wider and we can sleep across the width and not the length. This saves the space inside. It is easier to buy a promaster in the US.
