DO NOT Hike This Trail in Summer - Fires Creek Rim Trail
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 месяца назад
Research suggested it was a bad idea. Experience confirmed it. Avoid the rim trail in summer. It was challenging and probably would be a great experience in other seasons. A wild and remote area. Plus nearby towns to visit. Can't wait to go back.
Mountains to Sea Trail - Over 130 Miles of Awesome in 6 Days - May 17-22, 2024
Просмотров 3325 месяцев назад
May 17-22, 2024. After unexpectedly getting off the Appalachian Trail I made it over to MST and hiked all of segment 4 and 40 miles of segment 5. It was an amazing journey up and over mountains, along a gorge, past countless waterfalls, across more than 20 streams, through protected areas and zigzagging besides and on a parkway. Beauty and pure nature were everywhere.

May 22, 2024 - Day 6 of 6 on the MST. Segment 5. After waking up from a bed and having breakfast I hit the trails to finish up the journey. I came across some old farts (officially the Old Farts Hiking Club out of Wilkesboro), saw some fighter jets and even more pastures while hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just before finishing up I crossed paths and chatted with Shelton Wilder who is a ...
Mountains to Sea Trail - Segment 5 - Wide Open Spaces, Finding a Trail Angel & Stalking Cows - Day 5
Просмотров 896 месяцев назад
May 21, 2024 - Day 5 of 6 on the MST. Segment 5. You never know what to expect when you start moving. I didn't know where I'd stay for the night or how far I'd hike. This day's hike brought me through trails, forest roads, parks, old carriage roads and paved roads. I walked through forests and wide open fields. I visited a manor, saw horses, deer and snakes. I was chased by cows (multiple times...

May 19, 2024 - Day 3 of 6 on the MST. Continuing on with segment 4. After leaving the Linville Gorge the trail mostly followed streams, going by several amazing waterfalls (Steels Creek, South Harper Creek Falls and Harper Creek Falls), viewing a spectacular box canyon from an amazing overlook and challenging me with 13 stream crossings! Another day of 20 miles and the miles were worth it. This...

May 17, 2024 - Day 1 of 6 on the MST. Segment 4. After changing plans and switching from the Appalachian Trail, I started the hike at Black Mountain Campground and hiked as far as I could to get to the edge of the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. I needed to be able to hike through the Linville Gorge area on day 2 since it was a weekend and I didn't have a permit.

Lower Haw River Trail

April 27 ,2024. I found this trail the night before using the AllTrails map search. I hiked from the (small) lot at Highway 64 on the Haw River near Jordan Lake to Bynum and back. There's an old road bridge in Bynum which is not a footpath with a lot of grafitti.
Every Single Trail in Umstead State Park in One Day

April 14, 2024. I came across a FB post about doing every trail in William B. Umstead State Park and decided why not? I had a free day so I decided to give it a go. It was hard but rewarding. It was also interesting to see every trail on the same day and be able to compare and contrast them. Here's a Strava link to the "Every Single Trail in Umstead" route that I mostly followed: www.strava.com...

Just in case you can warm up some water to just under boiling and put it in your drinking water bottle then put it in your sleeping bag, helps for a long while. Liked your video and I'm planning a feb 2025 FH hike.

I enjoyed the part thru the smokies. I don't think they're allowed to have blazes in national parks. It wasn't too bad using FarOut. Sadly I didn't see any rattlers in the gorge. I saw one a few years ago hiking the loop with friends.

Nice video. I plan on hiking this in a few weeks. Do they allow camping at, or near that beach/picnic area at the northern terminus?

    • @narshonthemove
      @narshonthemove 8 месяцев назад

You can camp anywhere. I noticed after leaving the old picnic area there are signs saying that area is off limits. So I think anywhere along the beach before the picnic area would be fine. When my kids were in scouts we occasionally camped on the beach. Note, the water at the beach is brackish so you'll need to hike water in to that point.
