Howdie-Skelp: New Poetry by Paul Muldoon
The Pulitzer Prize-winning poet delivers a sharp wake-up call with his “howdie-skelp” which is a slap in the face a midwife gives a newborn, a wake-up call, call to action.
The poems in Howdie-Skelp, which is also Paul Muldoon’s fourteenth and latestcollection, include a nightmarish remake of The Waste Land, an elegy for his fellow Northern Irish poet Ciaran Carson, a crown of sonnets that responds to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, a translation from the ninth-century Irish, and a Yeatsian sequence of ekphrastic poems that call into question the very idea of an “affront” to good taste. Muldoon is a poet who continues not only to capture but to hold our attention.

Selected Poems: John Mcauliffe in conversation with Michael Schmidt
Просмотров 2413 года назад
A Selected Poems is the occasion for a retrospect and a survey, trying to detect the shape of an oeuvre to date, identify its themes and directions. The centrifugal ‘moving out’ exemplified by John Mcauliffe’s developing poetry - a geographical, thematic, prosodic and formal expansion - is fascinating, and as a poet-critic he is able to see his own work in helpful ways. Join John as he talks to...

Proof that stupidity is infinite.
What a wonderful interview. ❤As a visual artist, I am very open to that which comes from nowhere but insists upon itself, as Doireann said. I frequently compose images because I simply must, even though I don't "understand" them. Sometimes it can take years until I do and I'm completely comfortable with this. I trust that place from which they come.
Great book. I will be reading everything Rob gives us. A gem in the literary world for sure.
i i hope to read more of his stories . hes fascinating and he`s such an endesring sense of humour...... Bravo Blindboy BRAVO !!
What would BLINDBOY do if he caught me wanking onto his bag dressed in my orange slippers?wOULD PUT THE MASK IN THE DISHWASER AFTER
Gidday from Australia. You might be a long lost relie mate
A wonderful event! Thank you
Great readings.
A very interesting chat!
Jesus the beginnings of this lecture is such unbearable virtue signaling. I have no faith in the intellectuals who feel the need to broadcast how not racist they are, because in my experience, they're typically the most racist among us who aren't just overt supremacists
Blindboy's story was one of my favourites in the book. What a twist. Loved it
His writing is class, talented writer and have not really listened to any of his podcasts.
Such a rich, engaging, wonderful interview ❤️ Thank you
Naive questions posed by the interviewer
So looking forward to reading it
If ‘Harvesting’ is anything to go by I am very excited to read Lisa Harding’s ‘ Bright Burning Things.’
Lisa Harding is such a thought provoking author. Have just finished reading her novel ‘Harvesting’ and now can’t wait to read ‘Bright Burning Things.’
Who is the author Rob mentions towards the end when saying he used to be a fan of her work?
'Threshold' is bounds better than his debut. I will certainly be reading it more than once in my life.
Great book and great conversation - fair play
Hey!! Great content. Have you ever thought about using SMZeus . c o m to increase your subs?!
Tell that eejit that plastic bag wont stop the covid.
brilliant readings and insights into creative process, thank you
I'm a fan of Ciara Geraghty. I've already read 4 of her books, and I'm about to begin reading a fifth. Her characters are very engaging, you feel you know the, and care about them.
Excellent reading, Keith. Well done!
Really enjoyed this. Thanks all. ❤
An-deas a bheith páirteach i bhféile in 2020! :)
Great session. So much information and insight. Thank-you all
Question for Doireann: Your book seems to be a reawakening of the Irish Keen, a female text of grief. Do you think that the Irish lament, an oral and literary form and practice, is a thing primarily of the past? Or is it returning in some ways? Where or how do you see that return happening?
Really enjoyed that, and I’ve added 2 more authors to my to read list! Carmel and Sam were already firm favourites.
A really enjoyable event - thank you!
Thank you, ladies. Thoroughly entertaining discussion and wonderful readings.
Really enjoying the conversations and if I was a writer this would be great motivation. Now I will value all the books I buy more.
Just finished Zoe's novel. Wonderful ending. Her best yet. Loved My Pear Shaped Life and Greta still resonates with me months later. Carmel I love the questions you ask your characters. Looking forward to reading Ciara's new novel. Loving this discussion, Sam.
Loving the readings, total bookshelf envy for Carmel Harrington's backdrop! Beautiful!!
Really enjoying this event
really enjoyed this . makes so much sense when he talks about nature
Great discussion
