Masterpiece

So many sound events. Why so slow? Can we not apprehend or process the concepts any quicker? 😢 A cosmic didgeridoo in the middle section? Why constantly only descending tones esp. the ending... the Escher work referred to has stairs going upwards as well? Is this the "in vain" of the piece?

Exquisite piece, superbly played here. The music has such an incredible warmth about it. Clears away the dreadful nonsense of what's going on in the world at the moment. Yes, really . . . !

Miraculous piece, bursting with joyous invention. Waltzes are never far from the overall melée. But what fantastic notes. Everything makes total sense and yet there's a wildness about it too. Unleashed, incredibly characterful and makes me smile. Here's somebody who was very, very serious having a great time!

One looks at this score and one believes you are looking at something by Webern or Schoenberg. It is really unique in 14th century music. As people have commented, it makes Gesuado sound like Palestrina. I tried to sing it, with bassoon accompaniment, at the weekly student recital hour when I was a college music major. The problem is that the piece sounds so weird even if sung correctly - as it is here - it sounds even worse with an inadequate performance, as mine certainly was. I found a dark corner and hid for an hour after the performance.

So many colours--so much counterpoint. It almost sounds like atonal Dixieland.
