Cool!
Following! Tempest has been one of my favorite aircraft, along with the Mossie, but we never get to see these details! PLEASE show more. Wish I was in England to help your efforts restoring her. Best of luck.
Love these videos showing the details of the engineering, which is sometimes lacking in visits to museums!👍
Really great find - quite complete! Do you have a rebuildable or functional Centaurus for ir? Just subbed👍
Thank you for your support, we have a container of other parts and fittings not shown and there is a rebuildable Centaurus available to us.
Do you have facilities there to carry out the restoration work?
We are working on the relevant facilities as we speak. Details to follow in update videos!
what is the history on this plane, previous owners etc.
We are planning to do a video running through the full story of the airframe once our researchers in India have finished piecing together its operational history.
great project, nice to see you have a Dutch helicopter standing next to it. very international set up ;-)
The museum has a very interesting mix of airframes.
Love the tempest Sure hope it flies again soon ish
We will get her back in the air but it will take a while!
@@TheTempestTrust I completly understand. Soonish in restoration
Typhoon Legacy in canada is doing a complete rebuild of one of these.
Ian is building a Typhoon (and doing a beautiful job!), the aircraft are similar in some ways (a lot of the tubular cockpit structure, oil tank and centre monocoque are identical) but the Tempest is a much improved, higher performance version.
Cool. There are two Typhoon projects, Canada and UK. The mk2 Tempest resto is done just flew from Sywell to Duxford. KSI are also doing a mk2 in Canada but wont have a centaurus. Kermit Weeks has the mk2 prototype and a Typhoon mkv project but these seem to have stalled since Andy Salter retired
Awesome cool 😮
Very well explained, gives the project another level of personal interest. Excellent degree of workmanship, plus all the background work. I am excited to see this beast of an aircraft develop.
Thank you for the kind words Peter. Glad to have you on board, we hope to share as much of the process as possible.
How much of the aircraft do you actually have on hand?
All major pieces with the exception of the rudder and tailplane.
Very informative,thank you…
You should have a look at the nearly identical IAF Tempest at Palam.
A research trip to India is definitely on the to do list.
Given the relative completeness, is there any possibility of it being restored to flight? It would be nice to see it in the air with PR533.
Hi Roger, this will indeed be a restoration to flight.
Not used (deployed) in fighting WW2
The MK.II first flew in 1943 but issues with the development of the Centaurus delayed large scale production until 1945. Our example saw combat service in India post war.
The best of the Hawker Tempest marks, it was refined into the Hawker Fury, which was cancelled in favor of jets, but the naval Sea Fury was continued and served into the 1950s.
We agree but I guess we are a little biased!
Imagine making it a MkV heehee one could dream
The wings are slightly longer on the MK.V so not quite as simple as changing things firewall forwards. Not to mention the problems of finding a Sabre engine. We have the prospects of the MK.V owned by Kermit Weeks flying in the future along with the possibility of two Typhoons.
@@TheTempestTrust I did not know that actually, I genuinely thought it was firewall onwards
@@TheTempestTrustThe wings are the definitely the same size (both extant Mk Vs use converted Mk II wings) but internally the Mk II and Mk VI had a strengthened rear spar to allow the use of spring-tab ailerons, notwithstanding the oil cooler and carburettor ducting in the leading edge as well. The Mk II and VI were much the same firewall-back; theoretically you could replumb and re-engineer a II into a VI if a Sabre were to be found - but that wouldn't be very authentic!
@@blockheadgreen_ quite right, apologies. Significant internal differences with the oil coolers being moved to the leading edge. The overall length of the MK.II is increased in comparison to the MK.V, not the wingspan.
@@TheTempestTrust Which is always a surprise in itself! The Sabre was very compact for an inline.
Perfect work !!! 😁👍😉 Best regards !!! 🙋♂️ J H 🇩🇰
Nice video ,a good solid basis for a static resto'
Will it be ever be restored to flying condition and will it be displayed in RAF colours?
We are indeed carrying out an airworthy restoration. No final decisions have been made regarding the colour scheme and we are a long way and a lot of hard work away from it becoming a pressing issue!
Is that a Dutch Lynx next to the Tempest ?
It’s is indeed. Westland SH-14D Lynx 272 - WA124 formerly G-17-23.
Excellent video for the general public. May I suggest a much slower video of the forward part of the fuselage (steel tube section) for the detail oriented affectationatos (re: nerds). Best of luck on the rebuild.
We can certainly do that. Would you like it with further narration or just a slower, closer look over the cockpit structure?
I do not think that further narration is needed. Although bringing to note the squaring of the round tubes at joints which the majority would miss. The type of fasteners at various joints (no real need to narr.) The conglomeration of pulley's in, around, and under the control column. While I love such detail, I would imagine that model builders would revel in this level of detail as well. Thus: this video is a good all around view of where and what you have, the detailing would be icing on the cake. Cheers.
@@edstoro3883 I will see what we can do.
Kernit weeks in the USA has one in slow restoration also
He has the second prototype Tempest II LA607 and a Sabre engined Tempest V EJ693.
Great walk around thank you
Fantastic work and fantastic project. Congratulations!
Thanks for your support we hope you will enjoy the updates as progress is made.
Wonderful, also a Quantum microlight next to it ! I thought it was mine !!!
There is, the museum is really worth a visit if you are ever in the areas. Not many places where you can sit in the cockpit of a British Phantom.
Very knowledgeable and well-paced video, and I look forward to progress! Subbed. A static restoration, i presume?
Thank you for the positive feedback. I will use a better setup and mic for future videos to cut down on background noise. As for the aircraft, this will be an airworthy restoration.
@@TheTempestTrust Excellent! I look forward to seeing (and hearing) that!
Great video, nicely narrated and engaging in style, "the First of The Many" hopefully Max? If so its Gary here, we communicated back in July about my video "SERCK & The Mystery Hawker Typhoon". To help get the word out on your Tempest restoration, and if your happy for me to do so, l will post the link to this video on our Hawker Typhoon video? Gary
Hi Gary, many thanks for the kind feedback. A link from your video would be much appreciated. Maybe we can do a collaboration when we come to work on our coolers?
@@TheTempestTrust Hi Max A collaboration video would be an amazing opportunity thank you, if only some of the old boys from my Serck days who built the radiators and oil coolers for the Typhoon and Tempest were still around to be part of it too. Thanks again Gary
@HawkerTempest-HA580 Hi Max Have posted your video link on my Serck Mystery Typhoon video. l see, and rightfully so, the views, likes and subscribers are now moving on your maiden Tempest HA580/MW758 restoration video, exciting times ahead for both you and the aircraft. Gary
❤cool 😎
Since seeing a Tempest at Cosford few years ago I’ve closely followed the rebuilds at Sywell and at KF in Canada. Such an impressive looking aircraft - best of luck with the rebuild. Have subscribed and look forward to the progress!
The Tempest at Sywell is now flying. Definitely the best warbird in the world now
Wow😱
Great video! Fantastic work being done. I look forward to more update videos.
That is a sweet acquisition. Going to follow this for sure!
Thank you for your support.
As a mechanical engineer and GA Pilot I love as much detail as possible in the videos to come, regarding how you restore/rebuild the aircraft. Best of luck.
We plan to do some deep dives, let us know if there is anything specific you would really like to see. Thank you for your support.
