    Those wide pine shavings work really good, but it cost $20 here, and you need a second to sprinkle on top of poop 💩, I'm testing out hey right now, and no stench, it seems to be working. I designed and built my own coop, mine is a lot easier to clean, I can also stand up in mine, we have the same taste in color, I also put up a clean up video, that's where I put in hay to test.

    You had me at...... {I'm trying to talk here), if not before!!! Just got here and did all the U-tubie things there are to do!!!!!!!!!😊👋♥♥♥♥ I LOVE the coop/run setup, but I would want larger run for mine, even when not needed, LOL!!! IF you want to keep the chickens/AKA their poop off of the nesting boxes, Run the lid at a little steeper of an angle to the wall and extend it over any flat surface present, and then make it slippery smooth, either by sanding and painting or by adding Formica or linoleum or tile, etc., so the chickens cannot land and/or STAY of the surface. You could add on a piece of the mesh you used for the inside or similar wire mesh, cut 2 pieces about 12 inches wide and the length of the separating partition of the mesh covered window/wall, attaching it about 9" up the wire from the wall and attach bottom to edge of wall, doing so on both sides of the coop. You could even use nail tacks and any kind of string zigging and zagging to and fro from tack thru the wire mesh in some kind of macramé or any way that the chickens can't or wouldn't want to land there, of course with can't land working the best!!!

    I'm the complete opposite, I'm not cheap at all 😂, but it's because I'm on a tropical island, I'm not on the mainland where I can get good deals on materials. We have something in common, the color of our coop, similar super smart predator and crazy ideas 💡. I have mongoose, they are day predators and super smart and sneaky, they were coming in through my automatic chicken door 😂, never killed a chicken, but stole eggs 🥚 one at a time...I have a lot more cement in my coop 😂

    Those woodstove top fans are next to useless. Look at how how much air they are rated to move and compare that to an electric fan. Even when it's running as fast as it can you can't feel anything more than a couple feet away.

    I leave two ceiling fans on low in the winter direction and they move my wood cook stove heat throughout the place. They make fans that mount on the top corner of doors to move the air between rooms or down a hallway.

    What people just don't get is that good skillets whether cast iron, carbon steel, or good stainless steel (i.e all clad style) all work to be pretty well non-stick when you heat the pan properly. The molecules in the metal swell up when heated to make a more slick surface. When you don't pre-heat for long enough you get stickage. In this era of the non-stick pans people have forgotten how to use skillets properly. I kicked all my non-stick as well as my microwave to the curb 20 years ago and happy for it. As Alton Brown said in Good Eats...the pan heats alone!

    unless its nearly red hot it wont crack a pan to pour cold water on it, it wont clean as well though especially if there was any oil in the pan

  • @oldrok
    @oldrok 3 месяца назад

    You can use mineral oil as it does not go rancid. I find that the hot water makes the skillet hot enough that a wipe with paper towel saves returning it to the burner. Then the same instructions you gave. Thanks for sharing. Many folks are afraid of cast iron because they think it is to muck work. I threw away all my non-stick pans long ago. Cheers!
