This scene was actually gut wrenching for me when I realize he’s separated from his wife. He devoted his life to his career and I can infer that might be why his marriage didn’t work out. And of course he’s burying his dog which means for him his family life with the dog, his wife, and his children. You get the sense he’s thinking “was it all worth it?”

The film starts with "You don't work here anymore" and ends with "You don't live here anymore."

I took the end of the movie to be his realization of what Irons' character was saying to him was so very true; he had been doing it for years and years.. just like today. It hit him hard, and he just had to do right by his dog at the end. His burying the dog was him simultaneously trying to do one good thing; at least.. he would at least bury his dog, he's still a good person... but also burying his guilt. I mean; brilliant writing and a brilliant ending.. It's the only reason the dog exists in the movie is for that ending right there. A lesser writer would have ended it on the prior scene.

Shoulda just left that dead dog in front of that bitch's door and then gone home to the hot stripper girls waiting for him. THAT'S the way an ALPHA does it.

He agrees to stay with the firm because he needs the money. Now we know why.

It is the house that he bought. He is burying his dog on the best please he thought. His ex wife enjoying all the goodies and she says "You do not live here anymore"...... At the end she wanted to say something about the yard destroyed but decided to close with do not try to break in the alarm is on. Fantastic ending for everyone that made a lot of money and thought that their marriage would last forever.
