'always appreciate creators who push the "Let's Get Oily" agenda... 🤣 Only 2 problems I've found (and probably isolated to my circumstances) are: it takes 3-4 days to fully cure in our tropical climate and it forces me to use topcoats since it somehow magically attracts and holds on to dust.

how does this look with non-dark colors? thinking about doing iron sultanate and I want to lean into the sandy\dusty look over the muddy\shadowed look

Where are those sculpts from? They're gorgeous.

If you don't have oil paints atm, but you do have acrylic washes from Citadel, you can do the same blends as shown ~11:20. The difference lies in two things: Time and Temperature. Be sure it's a bit colder than it normally would, and wait a couple of minutes before applying the next colour. My nurgle tentacle receipe: base with genestealer purple, highlight with bugman's glow + lugganath orange, apply carroburg crimson, wait like 2-5 minutes, mix in druchii violet. Let it dry and voila - disgusting tentacles, guts, whatever you need. :D

Great vid dude. Miniature painters get really locked into product ecosystems and tend to be very recipe driven; they shouldn't be so afraid of oils as they are wonderful to work with. James Wappel is very inspiring. I really like Gamsol as a solvent as they remove almost all of the nasty shit that comes with aromatic hydrocarbons too. Big recommend.

I have no doubt it will be successful, however the imagery conflicts with my Authoritative base, and personally held beliefs...so I will be passing but no judgement some 40k imagery is disturbing as well...but to me this goes a bit too far.

Blessed be thy Oil

I love a good oil wash video, the process is pleasing to watch. However I see bare hands and worry about the toxicity of some of the pigments used in oil paints. I hope you're not slowly poisoning yourself there!

I use oil paints (and enamels) on miniatures a lot, and not only for grimdark effects and weathering. For example I painted my whole Sylvaneth army entirely in oil paints. I recommend as a next step you investigate dot filtering with oils, I tihnk you'll really enjoy it.
