Hi, there never was a touchscreen to begin with. Everything about the navigation is the same, just hold the button to get to the old screen.

Therefore, I am asking what is it like to operate the CarPlay system without one, but only with the idrive controller? Particularly, is it annoying to enter an address in Apple or Google Maps, or can it be done through the iPhone?

@@powermod6772 You can enter the address directly using your iPhone and then click start navigation and carplay will automatically display the route.

Did you connect a harness to the Idrive controller?

Andreas Sjursen check the video, my first video Road Top never told me to install the harness to the idrive controller. So I just installed the loop key. This video shows what harness I had to install to stop this issue!

This issue was related to the installation of the Apple CarPlay unit. The seller forgot to mention that the Idrive controller needs a wire to the unit. I’m sorry I am not sure why your system is down unless you’ve installed CarPlay.

David Park I’m not sure about that, but honestly the quality is pretty good to begin with, I think you’ll be surprised. Compared to what the regular idrive looks like.

Oh so the oem Idrive went black? I’m not sure if that would help but I guess it would get help to see if the cable is the issue. The first thing I would do is press the radio power knob, the CD eject and DVD eject buttons at the same time. This resets the idrive and it should make it work unless it’s a hardware issue. Besides that It could be possibly a bad screen. Does it turn on and off if so it might also be a bad idrive connection, I am only guessing and not a BMW tech by no means, let me know if you figure it out!

Hi great video . I am having an issue with the screen working perfectly when in park but once i put jt in reverse or drive the screen goes dark and may randomly come back to the BMW logo but then shifts black again . Any ideas ?

Nemesis if it’s always black it’s most likely you wired the screen improperly, check my previous video on wiring.

Check the box switched to make sure you have those correct

@@coleyuhas7891 thanks for the reply. The screen was working for a week, suddenly it stopped working. Everything was working fine. The unit was nice and fit, I hardly believe the cables moved. The sound comes on. I can hear the music and also Carplay is connected in the background as calls are coming in. Just a black screen :(

Yeah sorry to hear that, mine works and connects flawlessly. Road tops is reliable; it’s hard to tell which company’s are okay!

The box ticks is normal mine does it every time I switch back and forth, I’m not sure what would cause this issue. Unless in-proper box connection I’m guessing you have a faulty box. Make sure that everything is secure, I am not sure what would cause this I would contact the manufacture.

@@coleyuhas7891 Thanks! I'm going back and forth with the seller, tried everything they suggested but nothing helped. I'm also quite sure, that the box is faulty, so I'm just waiting for the seller to run out of suggestions, that I have already tried so I can send it back and replace it. When using without the idrive harness, it's somewhat usable, just crashes a few times and throws out an error every 30 sec. While it's working, it's really amazing, even with the error messages pooping up every 30sec, I love it. Really hope the seller will resolve this problem.

@@coleyuhas7891 Sucks, that they are in the opposite time zone as I am, that makes it extra difficult for me to resolve this. During the evening, I try to change the idrive connection order or the dim switch options, as they suggest. Nothing works, so I reassemble everything so I can drive the car to work. Then, during the night they send another possible solution, but only one. So again, I take apart my car, conclude that it didn't change anything and reassemble everything. By now, I have removed the trim and dash for the 5th time already. Probably should have gone with the Andream unit :/

K B Do you have road top? And yes I had the same issue the seller is from China and he only answers at like 10.

Start with disconnecting the battery that will eliminate any issues with resetting the box. Did it work at some point in the past?

If it it’s the screen is completely blank with no screen popping up then you connected the harness wrong, or didn’t use the correct switches.

The cable that comes by itself is the one you need to plug, the one that comes with the audio cable you need to connect to the i drive controller module cable so the other side of the ten pin of that’s what your using as each cars are different. “the other I drive” I meant the other side of the harness. Can you not find what I have. One issue might be that when they package the product they connect there two wires together on the harness.

I wanted an OEM look and got rid of the mic that road top gave me. The mic quality is the same as what you’re using with Bluetooth, it’s no different from calling with the original idrive system considering it shares the mic. One thing I would say is to not use the voice button on the steering wheel for Siri to call someone as it mixes with both systems just push down the main idrive control for a couple seconds it will prompt you to Siri.

Right so the mic will still support the functionality of the original telephone if you install it with the second video I made or the way I did it in the first video. One thing I would keep in mind is the button on the steering wheel when using the CarPlay activates both most times but if your not using CarPlay it won’t be connected so it won’t be an issue. My way around this is when using CarPlay I hold the center button down and it activates Siri. But yes originally function of the car will be obtained as if you didn’t install it.

Also when installing you need to watch my second video regarding the control module as you need to set up the harness for that unlike what I said in this video.

@@coleyuhas7891 nope i worked on it for 6 hours and all i got was a black screen. followed your video step by step and also watched your update video. it would let me plug my phone in and connect to car play just black screen though

saucegodx6 check to make sure you wired the screen cables maybe flip them around, if that doesn’t work make sure your switches are flipped to the position given to you by the manual of your brand

@@coleyuhas7891 i messed with the screen cables flipped them around and everything. i have the same car as you but a 2011, it says in the manual to have 3 and 4 flipped up just like yours.

Again double check that the connections are strong, and you aren’t using the extension to eliminate any issues just so that you know it’s not faulty.

You need to fix the switches on the back of the box! Every box is different it should be in the instructions and I show what I did in the start of my vid, hope this helps!

Nothing, the road top mic able to be seen that’s the only difference! Both work great!

Like if i want to listen to a message but i dont want it to come through the car whats the best way for this? Also when answering facetime calls my video never shows on my phone?

A. Right I think that’s a CarPlay issue and can’t really be solved and I honestly am not sure, but if you want to make channel one as your aux preset that will help a lot with switching audios. Also holding down on the knob button takes you to Siri that’s a tip I learned through using it. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question but hope those tips help.

Check the switches on your module, as well as the lvds in and out.

Ok so it sounds like your CarPlay box isn’t set to your screen, in the video I show which switched to click on for my system, read the instructions on what switches you need set some are different then others. ryanjv ahh ok so I’m not really sure which is which but Ik that the wire you connect to your I-drive controller harness is the wire that comes with the mic aux connection and the one that you plug is the wire that comes alone with nothing else. Hope this helps!

sinus cosinus I’m guessing your screen is small? This means you need to change your box switches for different screen sizes read the directions to your product it’ll say there or watch my video and try that.

I think I wrote not clear, sorry, here again: I have the big screen (10.25 inc), android auto is on the hole 10.25", but in two halfs, the apps are on about 70% of the screen, on right side (on ca. 30% of the screen) you see information for clock, weather, musik etc., but I want it like carplay, one hole screen with apps etc., do you know how can I do that? sinus cosinus if your module is always 70% even from the start then it’s your box but when your connected on android auto and it’s only 70% then check settings in the module itself.

sinus cosinus oh maybe I understand, I have no idea how to change that! I’d look up how to change different versions of android auto.

OK I found out it has to do with android itself (for many people it works with developement modus of androit auto and then set the video resolution up to 1080p, but this also does not work for me, i will contact the support), nice thing is that with my Xiaomi Mi 9t pro also android auto work wireless, thats very cool :)

OK, I figure it out, with IPhone6 the cable has to be connected (Apple-Problem with old IPhones) to use „hey Siri“.

Kai Schug I was worried about that too! But the wired quality is the exact same. And the wireless CarPlay compared to the Bluetooth on the car sounds a littler bit better then oem. If the quality sounds bad when using CarPlay then it’s because your idrive volume controller for aux devices needs to be half way, but other then that it sounds great.

Also make sure you watch my second video which wires the idrive controller correctly

Just checked the cables, the labels look different to the ones you show in your 2nd video (I have the CIC version). There are two different options to connect: one for high speed CAN bus one for low speed can bus, you know which to use for F07 car ?

Kai Schug I have the CIC as well how are the wires different? The only wires that should be different are the idrive controller wires as you either use the big connecter or the small connector. I couldn’t tell you the idrive controller wire you use but you will clearly see when you go to install it.

Celal Kurt ok first off disconnect your battery

Then try it again, if that doesn’t work you need to make sure the harnesses are connected properly, and that the I drive controller harness is connected to the I drive and the other side of this is plugged.

Let me know! Also try pushing the other buttons Like the radio button next to the menu button!! Sometimes it just gets stuck when you first install it happened to me, but never had a problem after the first day.

Thank you for information! Also I see that I have different wirness. I connected this 10 pin connector from the idrive to the road top box, there I have totally 2 cables I can connect. 1. Is carplay low can. 2. Is carplay high can. The Idrive knob is working on both cables. And also I have 1 more hwo is head unit can, there I connect a loop.

Cole New update: i install everthing perfectly the áudio was normal and when i finish the installation i got a message “NO ACOUSTIC TONES” Do y know what should be?

Breno Pasquotto unplug and plug the aux cord, then restart the system and, then disconnect the battery. Where are you getting this error? Let me know if this works.
