The orchid bug has taken over my life / environment. I started seriously collecting in 2020 and I currently have hundreds, not sure the exact amount-they just tend to multiply. Having fun learning how to make my orchids and plants thrive while being a wife, mom of two little kids and just overall busy. My channel is for everyone, just fun activities with plants and family.

@@anndriggers6660 C. Hsinying Labiaka 'Sept Blue' x C. labiata f. coerulea 'Hsinying' is the cross I don’t believe it is named yet it is a seedling though so all will not look like this. I have two and they couldn’t be more different. Yes I love this one so much.

excellent parents. I've never seen this cross where I live before. I have been debating adding a Mishima Elf to my collection but I will wait I think, your plant is much better.
@@tomfurmby88 I have seen Mishima Elf not in person but pictures that is a good one too. I have a little baby one but it hasn’t bloomed yet. The one thing I will say about this is it is a seedling I have another same cross that is completely different looking. Thanks for watching 🤗

Does tree fern hold more moisture than moss?
@@pauladixon-williams3246 My experience is it doesn’t stay wet as long as moss. It works better inside for me. Moss inside tends to stay wet too long this is also an experiment I grow everything outside haven’t grown stuff inside for a while. But both tree fern and moss hold a lot of moisture. What a great shallow hole pot for potting up that larger division of your cattleya. An excellent positioning job with the lava rock and it is very well secured. The minor division is placed very firm in the terracotta pot and staked for good growing and observing that the roots took hold of the pot. @@BlueJays_Orchids no, I've not been to Palmer's YET. It's been a rainy day here so far. I am not going to drive up 3hours. Maybe another time when the weather is a bit cooler.

I too have an orchid addiction. I live in NJ and like the lava rock for my cattleya as well, make my watering less risky. Great video

I just had repotted an orchid using mesh, and seeing your struggle with the mesh sure taught me a lesson. Taking it out of the mesh tomorrow! Rabbit hole indeed. But it’s fun. 😀 Good video.

Great video! Love seeing your children curious about what you’re doing, brings back memories when my children loved helping me in the kitchen 💞 Also very interested in repoting since I have a few to do soon (overdue). Thinking about trying lava rock since I grow outside in south Florida.
@@beckyjames4072 Yes the boys are always watching they are a lot of work but well worth it 🤗. Yes I will work on the repotting video. Also if you’re growing outside you can grow Phals in lava rock it just depends on how much you want to water. I grow most of my orchids in lava rock / charcoal or mounted but saying that most of my phals are in moss / tree fern and I don’t think I have any in lava rock. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤗

I concur Justine, I find that no matter what politics orchid-people are affiliated with we can all come together and be nice. I am a member of two very different orchid societies and they each have lovely members who share and care for one another and especially so willing to help identify a plant, give advice and especially enjoy one another's collections. I'm glad to see you and your family get away for a vacation. Showing your sons parts of someone else's huge home or castle as it were is important to rounding their experiences. Respectfully,

if roots arenot in the soil they serve no purpose to the plant so am sure you know what that means. anyway nice haul. and nice selection.
