Thickness is 0.91” or 2.29mm, which makes it a good slicing and cutting blade. Flat grind. Curly maple scales with copper rivets. Sheath is handmade from rawhide so it’s hard like Kydex. Forging a Japanese tanto from spring steel
Just an opinion. Full scandi grind but I like it.
Love it except for the file work on the top.
I have over two hundred knives and most of them are home made from deer antlers
@@annholdervwc You’ve done your share of sanding that’s for sure!!
beautiful. nice work.
That’s a sweet knife
California knife?
5160 great kukri nepal knives, for chopping have one for 40 years together with a mora. both 40 years old, the kukri was past on to me, and is about 90 years old now. edge will not last long, so put a convex on that knife, if you do not, well it is what it is. nice looking blade thank you for sharing..
Beautiful
Link to the knife or website for purchases?
@@SmarterNotHarder25 Hi. Thanks for your interest. Here’s my website. www.elpasoknives.com/home I make small batch knives and sell them on my website. The listing is limited as they have been selling quickly. I try to put new blades out every few days.
2nd
Nice piece l would be carrying that every time I go in to the woods
Oh and the American flag on the sheath!
That is a fine looking blade, I really like that added jimping!
Got my kephart knife #2 in the mail friday, and man let me tell you this video does not do them justice! The size, the patina on the blade( it is sharpe as hell will pop hairs off) the handle feels great in the hand and looks dam good to with the engraving(Thanks again Ron}. And the leather sheath is just top notch. All in all a real quality piece i'am glad i was able to snag one before they were gone, and at a hell of a price too way,way worth it! Just an absolutely beautiful knife.
@@sam205jp8 My pleasure and glad you like it! Thanks again!
Very nice but I like blades in the 8"- 91/2" Not that theres anything wrong with Your design, Lol, I definitely wouldn't turn one down!!!😁
I appreciate the comment!
5160 is great for chopping especially in kukuris and machetes
For sale??? I’m interested.
@@rottiejakeluke Hi, the knife in the video is my personal build. I am finishing up one for another customer. I make all my knives entirely on my own to include the leather work. This knife requires a lot of grinding due to the thickness, it’s comparable to grinding 3-4 knives to get the proper profile, bevel, and edge. Please email me if you’re interested. Thanks!
@ email to come, please look for it from me. This is the knife it will be talking about.,thanks
@@elpasoknives thank you for the messenger and email responses. Will wait to hear back from you when you are ready.
@@rottiejakeluke I just sent you an email. Thanks!
Nice
@@annholdervwc Thank you!
WoW Just awesome work Ron Glad your the one making my next EDC blade Your sheath work is fantastic too
@@allanwagner4570 Thank you! You’re going to love the Bowie. The 5” blade on it and thick spine in 5160 will make it a well balanced beast, and great for EDC.
very nice knife
I like this sheath!!!
well i went ahead and bought knife #2 wish it had the custom etching like the other but it is a beauty, you can see the differential heat treatment line really good so i am happy! this is my second El paso knife.
@@sam205jp8 Thank you! I will engrave your handle just like #1 before I ship it to you! No charge.
@@elpasoknives Oh man thank you so much bud! i really do appreciate you! Thank you.
Fantastic looking tool. If the price is comparable to my Joker Nomads, I'd be very interested in acquiring one of these.
Really liked the design burned into the handles
well hell! just went on the site to buy knife #1 and it is gone dang it!
Beautiful knife!
Thank you!
Gotta say i really like that. Wonder who the OEM is. Not many manufacturers in America right now. Guess it depends on how big the order was? I was thinking Buck like someone commented but the sheath belt clip remained me of Tops. Im not a fan of tops. Utica still makes knives in America as well. If you find out I'd love to hear. I know i can't afford any knives until after Christmas an maybe longer unless Trump pulls some power moves on our economy. Nice work on the handle.
Benchmade is the actual maker of this knife just cabelas stamps there name on it
@warlantactical I don't want anything to do with it then. I'll never give that democrat company any money
@ that makes no sense never talk politics but presidents are just some pawn our government uses to read a script its a joke
@ yes sir is funny how there are so many knife nerds out there that believe there tools are made here 💯 They’re made here with outsourced materials and handle skins get screwed on lol then they can say USA made .
@ i have hundreds of knives for no reason This is all you need Bushcraft Usgi mechete Good ax Mora companion hd Saw Edc Milwaukee fast back with bar lock folder Defense 8” tano fixed blade example dvilin boker tanto The copy of the Leatherman scissors Leatherman not even made here only a few the plyer heads are stapes those scissors are not made the copy is $23-$26 same thing no different except o2 wrench locks on real one who cares
It's too nice of a Blade for that sheath.
Dude Fantastic job outstanding I gotta have one do you sell them??
@@allanwagner4570 Thanks! This is the first one I made. I got your email. I’ll reach out to you.
To me... this looks like a Buck inspired collaboration of sorts in the 5160 camp knife genre.
I believe you are right. Buck has the production and relationship with Cabela's to do it.
Love it, that is a tough but pretty looking knife bud!
@@sam205jp8 Thank you!
I think most folks can save themselves $70 and get by with something more like the Ozark Trail 11 inch belt knife. Few buyers are really going to be going into a "survival" situation with a knife like this. Most will lose track of where they put the knife before the wear it out or break it, IMHO. You may be targeting a different audience, but I bet the people that actually watch this aren't that into knives. Again, IMHO, based on my years of RUclips watching and comment reading.
That's the tops design...I have one...
No its a bench made
@warlantactical dude I have a tops dart... Look for yourself. I.ll send u a picture
@warlantactical Benchmade is overrated
@ yes they are and no one listens to
@ bro i have 100s of knifes and i am gear tester etc as a hobby . bench made made that knife there is no knife on the planet that Doesn’t simulate another maker . Pattens mean know thing just chaing it by 1/2” or steel and wallah you can make and sale it
Nice👍
Looks very much like a miniature Tops Dart. Same steel too.
@@damienhaire5584 Yes it does! Minus the finger choil and lanyard hole. It is pretty close match!
If I had to guess I’d say it was made by Tops knives . They do a lot of oem knife work .
@@gladeshunter8796 Could be. It has to be one of the three: ESEE, Tops, or OKC (Which was bought by knife wholesaler Blue Ridge out of Virginia.)
@elpasoknives I'd think one more option exists. Being 5160 with a Ceracoat makes me think Buck. Buck and Cabalas do alot together and Buck uses a 5160 and Ceracoat/Micarta combo on the Camp series. OKC has used alot of 5160, but I don't know of any Tops or Esee knives with 516p though I could be wrong.
@@gunner4373 Great point! I never thought of Buck, but it makes total sense and I think you might be right. Buck makes the Compadre which is 5160 and coated. Thanks for the input!
Benchmade made it
The Benchmade Knife Company makes knives for Cabela's. Benchmade knives are made in the USA in Oregon City, Oregon, and combine precision machining with hand assembled designs. Cabela's sells a variety of Benchmade knives, including folding knives, fixed blade knives, pocket knives, tactical knives, and outdoor knives.
Simple and beautiful ! I like it.
*Beautiful knife. I like it very much. What kind of wood are the scales made of? The wood has very beautiful, fine grains. My congratulations. This knife has soul 🙂*
@@user-ww4od4jl1f Scales are made from Ipe wood. I appreciate your comments!
@@elpasoknives Is the blade chemically stained black? I've never heard of Ipe wood. How is the hardness (comparable to Ironwood?) and moisture resistance? Let me guess. Ipe wood only grows in El Paso? 😉
@@user-ww4od4jl1fIpe hardwood is very dense. Without looking at specific hardness numbers, I would say it’s near as hard as ironwood. Ipe is also known as Brazilian Hardwood. It’s found in South and Central America. The blade is blackened using salt and a current. No harmful chemicals used.
@@elpasoknives *A person learns throughout his life. Interesting wood. Especially from the side of small rings. As for harmful substances. I do not live in California and everything that is for California residents is not harmful to me. To tell the truth, the most poisonous is Newsom. But in a strange way, the state of California does not warn against it.*
Good job! I think you hit your target.
@@donhudson3252 I appreciate it!
Nice job! I loved the soundtrack as well.

that sure is pretty!
I don’t see them on your website
Nice, but looks to need a thumb ramp for easier withdrawal. In your video it looks like extraction will rip sheath from your belt
Nice Kephart style. I like it a lot.
