    That's cool ..but on a hectic road/day, traffic is not clearing and there is oncoming traffic continuously for 3-4 times then blinking yellow turns solid, and then red solid again & again. Then what to do?

    I'm not sure I understand how this works. From what I can gather, if the ramp fills up to capacity the light will turn green to prevent traffic from backing up. But what if there's a bunch of traffic coming down the freeway at that particular moment? Are they going to be expected to move over? It seems scary to be trying to get up to highway speed from a standing stop when you've got a semi barreling towards you.

      Usually, ramp meters have two lanes. One of the main purposes of ramp meters is to break up multi-car (platoon) intrusions into a highway. (More info cam from Road Guy Rob)

      I would imagine that if you’re in Cicero, North Syracuse, or Clay, then pray! Not being able to take 81 through the city is going to put so much time on the clock. If it’s winter time, pray that plows actually plowed the city streets!
