    Currently working on sweater no. 15 for my cable fix but tbh I don’t think my favorite things patterns are as great as a lot of other designers and this is probably the last one I’ll make

    As a crocheter I now don't buy from cheap places that have crochet items. Crochet can't be done by machine so if they're charging £7 for a crochet top, the creator is being financially abused for that product😢

    I'm learning to make clothes too. So many people could learn this lesson and see just how much things are worth when you put a little effort into it

    Lifelong crocheter here, and it's heartbreaking when you realize the fastest way to devalue yarn is to make something with it. 🧶🧶🧶 People who aren't fiber artists tend to not value that effort at all.

  • @Sovereignty3
    @Sovereignty3 27 дней назад

    Yep, unless parts are able to be done on a machine, your paying for just a step above slave labour at these sorts of stores.

  • @Tyldama24
    @Tyldama24 27 дней назад

    Yeah.. and if you try to sell them people think you’re gonna make bank. No!! I can’t possibly sell it for the amount of time and effort it took, even if I just count my work at 5$ an hour. That shirt would be more expensive than Gucci. After going to a few markets, only make small cute things, only things that are worth selling. But anyway be you, do it for yourself because you love it and it’s worth a million, because it’s made by you.

    I love what you have to say, but for some reason, i couldn't stop thinking about how that last sweater would look in watermelon colors- pinkish body, green and beige border, and obviously some black seeds on the back (maybe strawberry colors!...☺)

  • @V-Mac00

    Absolutely! Between planning it all out, cost of materials & time, aggravation of frogging & redoing whole rounds/rows, blocking, etc... It's a lot! If you do all that, taking the time to make make it nice and use yarn that's somewhat decent? Yeah, it's going to cost a bit more... as it should! You're right - taking advantage of desperate people and having them mass produce some tops as fast as humanly possible isn't quite the same as what we're doing! And just the fact that machines can't do it should tell people how intricate the process can be.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THIS...i have wanted SOMEONE to point this out!!! it takes a LOT of time to make your own clothes, and theres a lot of feeling in what we do...please respect the art!!!!!!!

    Crochet *can not* be done via machine, but some people have discovered how to make knit machines make stuff that looks, from a distance, like crochet. Lots of what is in fast fashion that looks crocheted at a distance, is actually knit on machines. Which doesn't change the ethics of stealing other people's art, and mimicking it to make a quick buck.

    • @scadoodle3487
      @scadoodle3487 27 дней назад

      Came here to say this. If you are seeing crochet in a big box store, you have two options: 1. It's not crochet, it's machine knit and the designers are banking on you not knowing the difference. 2. It is crochet, and also slave labor.

  • @MBheARTed
    @MBheARTed 28 дней назад

    Shein is terrible for your wardrobe! I remember getting so much hate from my exes family for saying that, but it's the truth. Fast fashion = bad quality. I don't care how "cheap" it is. Cheap for a reason! I love thrifting stuff because they knock down the prices, but not because it's mass produced and looking for a fast dollar. Your tops are so cute, and I actually like the first one the most.

    I was bullied relentlessly as a kid for wearing crocheted sweaters because my mom always made everything with crochet. 😂 I still can't wear any crocheted clothes to this day.

  • @silverscapes9628
    @silverscapes9628 28 дней назад

    A crochet top should always be a minimum of $50. Bare minimum for a top that’s a net style, (they’re faster and easier to make). If you’re not paying big bucks, you’re paying for slave labor.

  • @beastshawnee

    I agree with your politicalbstance about fast fashion. For 30 years now I stopped purchasing clothes at Full retail, and just thrifted. I had always had a thing for vintage clothes anyway even as a kid. Plus I was poor. As an poor American who could sew young- I have made as many clothes as I ever purchased. I hate throwing away any item with hand embellishment so I pass those on to others who appreciate them!

      Man I miss thrifting. I still do it but even thrifting is too expensive to do as often as I used to. I have one place I go for shirts but the rest charge 10 to 15 bucks for them. I can get a solid color tank or t shirts for 5 bucks at Walmart. No they won’t last very long I get that but I don’t have the funds in my account to worry that far into the future. I just need cheap clothes I can wear out or sleep in. The one thrift store sells anything other than tanks for 3 bucks and up so there are some good finds. I can pay a bit more for good quality, just not 100% to 150% more. That’s where I find my “special” shirts since I just wear solid color t shirts most times, those are the shirts that are a bit more unique. I used to get my furniture there too but they don’t sell anything, even the smallest end table, for less than 100 bucks.

In the early episodes he always had a shirt like this… inky not as cool as the crocheted ones 🙂 I will henceforth personally be referring to this shirt as the Crochandler Top 🙃🤣 Wait. That looks like it says Crotch-Handler …. So Nevermind 🤣🤣
