Comments are appreciated. Thanks for watching! Timestamps: 0:0...

Album of the Year 2024 - To All Trains - a deep dive into Shellac's final release
Просмотров 762 месяца назад
It might be a bit early to declare my album of the year, but there is no other record that I listened to more and enjoyed more than To All Trains by Shellac. When it came out, it seemed to be largely overshadowed by the death of Steve Albini ten days earlier. In this video, I will take an in-depth look at the record and compare it to Shellac's catalogue overall. I hope you'll join me. Don't hes...

Shirley Jackson's second-to-last novel, The Haunting of Hill House, is second-to-none in terms of sheer readability, the fantastic crafting of dialogue and masterful character building. That it is also one of the greatest haunted house stories of all time makes it all the more amazing. Whatever you think of this novel, you won't soon forget it. In this video, I focus less on the horror elements...

Dial H by China Mieville - random insanity!
Просмотров 1043 месяца назад
While reviewing the Book of Elsewhere, I decided to go back and re-read Dial H by China Miéville (published in 2012 by DC Comics) which is one of my favorite comics of the last decade. It’s got everything you could ever imagine, just about. Was it just as fun as the first time around? You're damn right it was. And just as weird and wacky as I remembered... and I got side-tracked ranting about G...
What's that Nirvana magic in D7 (by the Wipers)?
Просмотров 374 месяца назад
D7 by The Wipers is one of Chris' favorite songs of all time. Like most people, he discovered The Wipers through Nirvana's cover of that song (and "Return of the Rat"). He couldn't figure out the difference in the two versions until Jasmine clued him into what the bass guitar was doing... When you listen to a song, what instrument do you focus on? Do you listen to the vocals, bass guitar or dru...

    This is my first murakami book. I saw this author was recommended so i gave him a try. Im surprised at how easy it is to read almost like sitting back and visually imagining a foggy memory or like trying to remember an odd dream after waking. Wasn’t expecting to enjoy it. I have yet to finish it but I’m very curious to see where this goes haha.

    First came upon death jr while looking for some games to get for my psp, and was immediately hooked when i saw the mtv music video of “im not okay” by mcr using these character models from the game. Then i found out they have all this other stuff like more games and comics and even figures, absolutely obsessed with this stuff! Its reignited me via inspiration to get back to creating art and possibly making my own stories, absolutely in love with this silly interesting world they created

    Good, and also, TTM was also an effort by Wells to get the unassailable British to empathize with the experience of those people they conquered and ruled as colonies. Yes: Totally superior armed invasion topples your society and kills your people mercilessly. Keep on studying!

    Feels like me today!!! I’m 38. I use to have sooooo many comics that I collected and that were handed down to me. And ME, keeping w/the tradition, handed it down to my lil cuz and NOW I have to restart bcuz my cuz LOST all of them. Yeah ok. Anyway. Where do I start????

    • @CrescentandJasmine
      @CrescentandJasmine 10 месяцев назад

      Sorry to hear that, man! It's a good tradition to be a part of until.... yeah. So, I'd suggest starting with X-men of course! Chris Claremont Omnibus 1 and 2 have a lot of classic stuff, for example.
