      Only available as "preowned", check Kasperwing.com, Barnstormers & Craigslist. There are many U/Ls the Kaspwing is unique in it's control system.

    Wow another year has passed, its been 44 years since I flew the King Dome on this June 17th 1979 Fathers day paper airplane contest, before I flew off in my hang glider, I flew my rc glider for the crowd, stafing the seats in the 300 level where 10,000 people cheered me on, After safely landing my 8 foot span rc glider, I hooked in to my awesome Olympus 160 with a king 5 movie camera strapped on my left side control bar, 10,000 people did a count down from 10 for me, when they hit zero.....I ran down the ramp into history.

      Chris, Those were certainly the "Glory Days" of hang gliding, it is over a half-century since I made my first flight in a "Bamboo Bomber". The sport has matured and become a lot safer, I find it sad that the focus for personal flight has shifted to paragliding primarily for portability, setup and storage. Having a crowd of 10K cheer your flight is heady stuff, a unforgettable memory of our misspent youth chasing the wind.

    I soared a Kasperwing outside of Seattle for 7 years, starting in 1988. What a fantastic recreational plane! What an aerodynamic miracle! I would power up to about 2000' and then throttle back to a slow sink rate, looking for lift. There was not much around Seattle but I got up to 7400' once. I also flew at the same rate as hawks and seagulls. I actually flew in formation with six seagulls for awhile. We caught two thermals together. When I turned off I waved. They didn't seem to notice one way or the other. Thanks so much for getting to "get up there" again!

      I hope you enjoyed the Kasperwing videos we have presented. Back when Cascade Ultralights was located in Issaquah we would fly to Mt. Si, on a good day there was plenty of lift on the huge, rocky cliff faces. I agree that for the most part birds ignore ultralights although there has been a couple of reports of Bald Eagles attacking the KW's wingtip rudders.

    I flew K wings for seven years - most of the time as a self-launching glider. I would power to 2000 feet, throttle back to a gentle sink rate and go looking for updrafts. I cruised at the same speed as hawks and seagulls. I flew as part of a formation of seagulls through two patches of lift before I had to wave good bye. They even let me fly in the center slot for a while.

      Parker, Yes, flying with our feathered friends is part of the fun. Many pilots report close encounters with birds, they don't seem to mind sharing the sky with us.

    Hay una cosa que se llama mezcla mecanica de alerones profundidad hace ya inventada un monton de años supongo que habra algun tipo de censura para que esto no se aplique a las alas volantes ulm y vuelo libre que existen hasta ahora finales 2022 ... Es tambien ridiculo utilizar un perfil primitivo de simple tela ... baya que no hacen alas volantes en condiciones ningun fabricante ... debe ser censura de libertad o un agujero extraño en el diseño de aviones y alas volantes ... quieren que nos rompamos los cuernos con unas mierdas de alas pendulares , cuando si las hicieran bien serian una maravilla total ... yo soi aeromodelista entre otras cosas ... y hay un sinfin de modelos rc extraordinarios Zagi por ejemplo y muchas mas ... alas volantes superguais ... superestables ...superseguras ... Solo hay que hacerlas escala 1/1 yyy aparecera una nueva domension en el deporte aereo .... voi a buscar un patrocinador para construir una y sacarla a los aficionados ... a ver que os parece ... interesados contactar , un saludo 😇😇😇

      The Kasperwing uses a single surface airfoil to meet the FAA weight requirement and to maintain portability. The design is fifty years old; I am sure you could do better utilizing the information now available on the internet, corporate sponsorship, computers and the new lightweight materials. From my experience I can say that it is not an easy task to construct an ultralight airplane, it will take at least a year of hard work. Please do give full-scale airplane building a try, we eagerly await RUclips videos of your first successful flights.

      @@olsonspeed Hola , sobre el requisito de peso de la FAA veo extraño que por el poco peso de la tela del intrados no pueda cumplir la normativa , otra cosa es la portavilidad , si se tiene que montar y desmontar rapidamente . Como bien dice usted el diseño es antiguo 50 años ... en medio siglo ... nadie a hecho un ala volante bien hecha a escala 1/1 a pesar de conocer la tecnica . Intentare hacer lo que pueda . He restaurado y modificado varios trikes Cosmos y 2 minitrikes pendulares que todavia poseo , pero nunca todavia e colgado ningun video , mas adelante espero hacerlo . Un saludo desde España y buenos vuelos 😄😄

      @@AngelSanchez-vp5pu The first Kasperwing ultralight was double surface, 3-axis control , it was very difficult to transport and required at least two people to assemble, it was later destroyed in a flooded basement. Constructing a flying wing ultralight is possible, it has been done before.       @@olsonspeed El primer Kaperwing podria ser mejorado en tantos años , y no se a conseguido por falta de interes ... de otra forma es imposible . Ral Kingberg esta provando un ala rigida parecida a la Exxtacy 160 , eso no tiene el rendimiento que yo busco , a mi me interesa un ala volante como esta ... KIT ALA VOLANTE MULTIPLEX XENO UNI, 1245MM, 690G , discupa que no ponga el link . Solo habria que adaptar los Reynolds y fabricarla 1/1 , haciendo las variantes que se necesiten , es bien sencillo .... por que nadie a hecho algo parecido en medio siglo ? 😇😇😇

      @@AngelSanchez-vp5pu The interest in ultralight flying has shifted to PPG powered paragliders over the last thirty years because of ease of storage, transportation and low cost. Most ultralights airplanes sold now are of conventional design, there are many used ultralights available for under $10,000. Flying wings are still regarded as radical designs, many customers still want the familiar tractor prop and tail. Research the Facet Opal built by Australian Scott Winton, it is very close to what you want to build. Also review nestofdragons.com for flying wing designs. You will find the XENO UNI would be nose heavy because of the pilot position at the nose of the swept wing, the pilot should be closer to the C/G. It is not an impossible task to build a sleek flying wing, just labor intensive and expensive. ​

    There's a section of William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways" about an encounter he had with the hang gliding community on the Gold Side at about the time these clips were filmed, while driving the backroads of the US.

      Yes, during editing I found the album "High Flying Birds - The Right Stuff" and thought it was the perfect song for the video. No regrets for those of us that spent our youth chasing the wind, they were very good years.

      Most KWs flying now have been rebuilt with Rotax 503, 447 or Yamaha 440 and shock main gear.

      @@arthurjensen5786 I designed a system using ATV coil over shock absorbers. We installed about 16 sets on KWs including Steve's plane. The bungee shocks needed to be restrung periodically as the rubber cord sagged under load. The ATV shocks are maintenance free, have oil damping and work better.

      You are correct, the Kasperwing can turn inside any other U/L design. These days we are more into cruising than stunting or dogfighting, must have something to do with grey hair.

    Your all osom test pilots on the forfront of technology I as well motivated by the great gross ruck and his arigional bulldog design. I took kaspereing more towards the bull dog design with clear Plex pod stits cloth sails 5/32- 7by 19 wires heavy design but very strong the only week point was at the tip rudders in a out side slip in a loop

      Oh wow ok that was many years ago a try about oh 15 or 20 designs low wings mid wings high wings dihedral anhedral bi wings TRI wings Steve bull dog was the original k wing every thing I did Steve beat me to it but with that said the bull dog was wate Steve started the kaspereing ultralite from very easy to reproduce abuulldog

      I live for kaspereing the bulldog was the first Steve's best kept secret the material was obtained from Steve by photo stage set consisting of sections that were at that time easy and cheap to bye they came in 1 invch square tube welded to 8 inch by 6foot sections combined with 1inch channel you will find very easy to reproduce Steve's apple crate using a k wing on top simply Chang the attach cable plates flying wires and landing wires fee other details you can figure out Steve told about the building I persued and found to be to easy to reproduce and that why Steve came out with the round tube design .the bull dog dqairez up with t 51s the added strength you can load the wires 5/ 32 s 6 by 19

      Rotax 447 2-stroke, single carburetor, 40hp, 60" Powerfin, three blade prop. Two of the Kasperwings in the video are powered Compact Radial Engines MZ202 engine, two other planes have Kawasaki 440 engines.

    This is quite simply the most beautiful hang-gliding movie I've ever seen. This had me transported to another era, almost like I was there myself. One can almost taste what it felt like in these early days of our sport, the naive search for freedom. Not to mention the killer song!! Nice!!
