[ Timelapse ] Phlox V4 Vtuber Model Art & Cutting
(Almost) full timelapse of my new vtuber model art. This does not include all the extras I decided to add on later (hand rigging, arm toggles, extra experssions, etc).
This is sped up to 80x speed, meaning the art and cutting features in the video is something near 36 hours worth of work. In total, the model art, 3D models/uv unwrapping and illustrator resizing probably took something in the 50-60 hour range. I unfortunately do not have the rigging process recorded as my PC is not strong enough to run a heavy model & record simultaneously.

I'm working on a video about using your pngtuber in VTubeStudio, but I didn't want to encourage warp deforming another artist's work without their consent. The solution? MUST HAVE Capture Method for VTubers! (Spout2 Capture Tutorial)
I cannot find any active input after clicking the Spout2 background, I have OBS open and windows active, any ideas?
I use a PNGtuber + and transitioned from Streamlabs to OBS, but OBS doesn't play nice with PNGtuber + with a transparent background lol. Luckily I finally found a chroma key that is dark enough to not kill my eyes and works well. I had to do a lot of extra tweaking and filter add ons to get your tutorial to work for me, and that's 100% fine since I'm not using a Vtuber program. In the end, I got it working after fussing and tweaking stuff, and it looks great! Thanks so much for making an updated one, I appreciate it! Makes my PNGtuber look more convincing <3

I was trying to help someone and watched your streamerbot video and decided to try to see your other content. I couldn’t find your twitch or main channel. Unless you havent gone live for 9 months. I also saw you have only posted 2 times in 7 months. What happen?
in short, i had a cancer scare, followed by my mom needing surgery for cancer of her own (she’s clear now thankfully), and then my father also having two surgeries. all of us are OK! but between that and some home construction + my 9-5 dayjob, i basically only have worked on personal projects when i have time. i am redebuting with this model soon (funny enough i had a scheduled date but now need to get a new roof due to hurricane damage and will be postponing) and ill go over all the nonsense that’s been happening in my life lately. it’s truthfully just a lot of back to back stuff that made it hard to maintain a schedule and stay sane. i love making videos and streaming but needed time to recover, will be back when things are ‘normal’ again :)
@@phloxart Sorry to hear that! Hope that you can get everything fixed up and get back to it soon!
Did I write gay sex on my forehead at some point and only realize that I did that post export and didn't want to go back and remove it? Definitely not. Did I write cock gay cringe jork my peanits bust it down sexual style for sample text and only realize that I did that post export and didn't want to go back and remove it? Also definitely not.
Okay so. Just wondering, right now i use separate scenes for gaming and for just chatting. If i want this to work, would i need to do everything within the same scene for the spout2 to capture it?
If you make your OBS source the entirety of your OBS, it should automatically update when you change scenes. You can modify the name of the whole capture source in tools -> spout output settings. Just be careful because it captures every scene no matter what, so you need to ensure your sources are safe and ready to go. It will often leave a 'ghost' of the last used OBS source upon opening VTS, so if you have any sensitive sources like webcam etc. make sure to check VTS's background before starting recording/streaming.
@@phloxart thank you for sharing your wisdom! i super appreciate you!
@@phloxart I played around a bit and managed to have the spout plugin send the entirety of obs to vts. Problem was when I want the models data back to obs for the stream/recording output. I keep getting the infinity effect as everything on screen is captured. Do I have to run two instances of obs 1 for source gathering and 1 for the output for this method to work?
This is such an in depth tutorial and life changing. Thank you!

this app runs so ass man. when i see people using the physics menu and have frames i’m so jealous. this shit deepfried
impressive work indubitably.
hey erm...i tried getting the plugins but they dont show up in obs menu even after putting it in the files....
hiya, this tutorial could already be outdated given its from about a year ago now, i'm unsure of the compatibility of the plugins now. make sure to use the current versions of the plugins and check that each is compatible with your current version of OBS (and OBS only, SLOBs will not work). this was made with obs 29, the current version is 30.2.3. FiniteSingularity and Exeldro are renowned in the OBS community and I would assume them to update for compatibility regularly. so if all 3 plugins are not working, its probably an installation issue. please make sure there is not another install of OBS you may be accessing the plugins folder for. 64-bit plugin folder should be C:\Program Files\OBS\plugins. Make sure all the .dll files are present in that folder. If they are and OBS is not recognizing them, potentially delete them or run the uninstallers for them before reinstalling. you may also want to check for any old plugins you no longer use. they can cause issues, i know myself that the PRPR live plugin causes Spout2 to break. there may be something interfering, so double check and uninstall anything outdated.
Oh hey that me! 2:11 Saying the model looks incredible is an understatement. Hope your debut goes smoothly as possible! 🙏

I'm having an issue where my shadow mask is warped and not working as a shadow because of that. :T I don't know what I did wrong.
hiya, haven't seen this issue myself unfortunately. try to right click -> transform -> reset transform. you may have accidentally adjusted the transform. I would check down the line of source mirrors to make sure you didn't move something. otherwise, double check your source settings and make sure the resolution matches. and also check for any filters that may have been added accidentally. that's all I can recommend, sorry!
Hi I’m looking for making my model talk like the model you’re using in the video; do you have a video on how to do so. My avatar is more hyper realistic so the mouth just opening and closing looks weird
Hiya! My model setup in this video is a Live2D model running on VtubeStudio with Vbridger. I do not have any in depth tutorial on rigging in Live2D (if I have the time someday I'd love to), but model creation this way is quite the extensive process. I would recommend starting with some youtube videos going over it, there are thankfully lots of resources that have become available in recent years.
I've used this twice since finding this tutorial and it's worth making - Whether you have your own Picrew or fugi's already or not it's 100% worth setting up even though the programs can be intimidating! <3 Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
thank you so much! so glad you're getting use out of it, that brings me so much joy 🥹

thankyou so much <3
Any chance you’d have the commands for Mac for what you did? I can’t figure out what you selected. Thank you for the video.
@@cmluna90 Should be the same with some key replacements. If I remember Mac correctly, you will be replacing “control”with your “command” key and will be replacing “alt” with the “option” key (example: control shift c would be command shift c for you, or shift alt would be shift option) My “H” hotkey (to hide elements bounding boxes) is not a standard hotkey and would need to be added in your Live2D settings if you want to use it. Let me know if those key replacements work, if not I will check them tomorrow. I have a Mac its just for work so I dont use it often for Live2D-that being said I will check to make sure if needed 👍
[If you have the same issue as me] when adding character shadow the whole screen capture goes black, aka you're using a chroma key to get a transparent background and not using VTS's transparent background feature. Don't do that, that's old. Use color picker in VTS backgrounds (non-character color) then click the "Allow transparency" box. Then go back into OBS and your problem should be solved. if not, then import your vtuber. While in properties for the vtuber change the composite mode to default or a setting that works for you. Sadly this took me 3 hours to figure out. Hope this helped at least a little. [another issue i came across] Character shadow not showing up entirely! Most likely you're a silly goose, go into the lighting scene put vtuber shadow above display blur. BOOM! This video was honestly really easy to follow and well made, I'm just silly and was using different methods for my vtube model! And these new methods are even better!
Thank you so much, happy it helped. Really appreciate providing clarity on the issues you were having too, I'm sure it will help someone out!
Actually the only vid i found that helped me understand so thank you! :D your really talented:]
thank you so much!
This saved me a lot of time and money! thank you!
I can't really figure out what I've done wrong... I had to cut the opacity of the vtuber shadow filter to about 40% as everything above that was making the rest of my avatar way, wayyy too dark, but now I don't really get that rim lighting feel like yours. Dunno if you really even read comments on a video this old anymore, but if ya do, I'd love to hear some advice if you have any. Thank ya! For the record I'm using a 3D vtuber with Vnyan (Vseeface but better IMO). Dunno if that has anything to do with it.
Hey Destova, I have been taking a break and haven't streamed in a while so forgive my knowledge being rusty, but you def shouldn't have to go as low as 40 on the shadow. I think I kept mine between 90-100% even. I would double check your two dynamic mask filters (toggle them both off in terms of visibility) and make sure both of those are working properly. If it seems like the gaming scene blur dynamic mask is the culprit, you can bump up your base values (try 0.15 or 0.2 instead of 0.1). I would also recommend even re-adding the dynamic mask filters and re-inputting values and mask sources. I recall that the StreamFX plugin would sometimes just...decide to not work, especially if you are changing things a lot. Unsure if that's the case with Exeldro's plugin, but it's worth a shot to re-add them in. There's a button in the bottom left of the filter for 'defaults' that should allow you to reset them, though deleting and adding from scratch might be a better option. In terms of the software you're capturing though, it shouldn't be any different if you are using transparency or spout2 capture. If you are using a chroma key to remove a background color however, you may need to first mirror the chroma keyed source to use as your initial vtuber source. I found it acts strange when you key it out on the same source that you add more masks on. There's also always the possibility that this could totally be obsolete at this point with new plugin & OBS updates. Hopefully that's not the case, wish I had more info for you!
@@phloxart Nah honestly that's amazing the amount of detail you got for being rusty! I'll take all of that into consideration the next time I feel like opening up my stuff to play with it. Thank you so much for replying!
Can you set a timer to disable the trigger? I saw the breakdown with the sub-actions. But after a certain amount of time - I'd like the items I added to go away. I didn't quite see anything that said to stop the effect.
Absolutely, Streamerbot has a separate tab for timers which you can link to actions. I don’t go over it in the video but can link documentation: docs.streamer.bot/guide/settings/timed-actions Since timed actions run an action every x period, and you want to have items go away after that time, you could have one action for the item toggle and one action to turn the items off. At the end of the initial action (to enable the toggle), have it enable the timer to toggle the item back off. This is how I did my colour change toggles! You can also keep it all within one action if you use some c# or some if statements.
@@phloxart Thank you so much for this! I'll give it a go here momentarily! Appreciate your help!
instruction unclear I'm a blue goblin now 😂🤣😂
Got it the second time, I missclicked some values in dynamic mask and it end up being 20.00 instead of 2.00 😆
Maybe something changed with OBS, but the LUTs you linked no longer seem to have any effect at all. I tried both the stronger and weaker one, nothing changed. I still have the flashbang effect with bright screens. Recently switched computers, so had to set it all up again. EDIT: Also, is there a recommended way to make this work for only part of the screen? Like for example, the gameplay only fills half of the screen, and I don't want the color and lighting of the non-gameplay sections to affect it. I've tried scaling and cropping various parts of it but nothing seems to work.
Hi Shahelion, Totally possible that OBS has changed, this is the 3rd version of this tutorial and stuff changes constantly so I wouldn’t be surprised if it is obsolete or needs another update. I will try out the LUTs when I am off of work or sometime this week and see if they are still working for me, then get back to you with a comment or comment edit. As long as the lighting scene you’re referencing contains only the game capture, it should not be mixing/adding color from sources that are not included.
I have officially become an oyster. thank you.
This does work with Media Source in OBS but not with Game Capture, is there any way to make it work with game capture?
Wow this is really cool! Is there any way to include blinking as well or is that too advanced? Either way, I know what I'm doing this weekend. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Thank you! Absolutely, you would just make another parameter going from 0 to 1 and rig the eyes with opacity similar to to the mouth (and make sure to adjust the input settings in VTS). The eyes open/close mesh or related deformers should be inside of the squash stretch deformer in the hierarchy so they still move with the rest of the model. Because you would then have 4 pngs+ total it will get a little more complicated with overlap. I would recommend separating the eyes on their own layer in the .psd so they do not disrupt your speaking parameter (you could separate the mouth too, this tutorial was just very barebones with separation). If you don't have any way to separate them in the .psd, you can separate them by using the manual mesh tool (button to the left from the one used at 6:19, looks like a triangle with a pen) and mesh *just* the eyes in Live2D by clicking a mesh boundary around them instead of automesh. And area outside of that mesh boundary will not be visible, so you can still separate them in a pinch :) I will be doing an advanced version of this tutorial including a more in depth lip sync, hotkeys/toggles/animations, and autoblink at some point though!
Thank you so much your tutorial has been of great help <3
I love this! I've been using it for a while and really adds some life to the model! One thing I haven't found a way to fix is getting flashbanged whenever there's a lot of white on the screen. For example, sharing a webpage or something
I think it's hard to avoid due to the nature of additive layers. The only real way to mitigate it is via LUT or color grading, haven't found much of a way around it :(
This has been the most helpful video I've found with setting up Nyarupad, Thank you!
Thanks for this, super helpful!

Thank you so much for making this!! My friends and I wanted to make a Picrew but got a bit overwhelmed by everything. I hadn't realized that you could set up photoshop like that to do bulk exporting.
Thanks for watching! Actually CSP supports layer comps now as well (ver 3.0 only) but still may be useful for easy exporting. I wish you the best of luck with your own picrews!
Hi! I have a model that is actually a .gif file, I was wondering if you know of anyway to get that to work instead of the PNG? If it just comes down to modeling the GIFs movement that's fine I was just wondering what your take was. if it helps give context the only thing that moves in the gif is a floating ball and mouth movements when I talk, otherwise it's all static.
Totally doable with a gif! Most .gif files can be imported directly to a .psd and will import each frame as a layer. If I'm understanding correct then you probably have 2 sets of the same floating frames--one set with mouth open and another with mouth closed. You can use the same method in this video, but around 7:15, you'll have an extra step of grouping all floating mouth open frames in 1 deformer and all mouth closed frames in another deformer (hold shift or control to collect them and make a new deformer). Then continue on and rig those two deformers as if they were your mouth open & mouth closed. Deformers can use opacity and multiply so it should still work the same, you'll just have one deformer holding multiple components for open/closed instead of one artmesh for each. As for the floating animation, there's two options for you, but its a little more complicated because both will require you to use the animation menu. It boils down to 'rig the floating in live2d' as you suggested, OR 'use the frames in frame by frame animation.' If its a unique animation I would do option 2 so you can keep it! If it's simple then you can probably rig it easier in Live2D. I'll try my best to explain both but maybe can do a video on this at some point! You will have to make a new parameter for the floating which you will rig depending on which route you go. L2D Deformer Method Hold ctrl and select your mouth open/mouth closed deformers and make a new deformer 'floating' for both of them. Then you can make a new parameter 'floating' or something that will go from 0 to 1. Make your 'floating' deformer active on this new parameter using your two keyform button. At 0 it stays the same, and at 1 you can hold shift and drag the deformer up. Frame by Frame Import all your frames for the levitation, add a parameter for the levitation, and make the bounds equal to the number of frames (ex. if it's an 8 frame loop, you'd go from 0 to 7). Then rig visibility for each frame--ex. frame 1 would be visible on param=0 with all other frames invisible, frame 2 visible on param=1 with all other frames invisible, and so on. Once you have that rigged, you can make a new animation file (set to 1920x1080p, and make sure your framerate matches what you use in VtubeStudio, ex if you use 60fps then the animation needs to be 60fps). Drag your model into the screen and resize it so you can see it ok (the placement doesnt matter too much since we arent exporting to video or anything). You'll want to open the dropdown 'live2d parameters' so you can view your parameters, and set keyframes for your floating parameter. If you do the deformer way, you really only need 3 keyframes (bottom keyframe, top keyframe, then back to bottom to loop). You can open the dopesheet and set the graph to be ease in so it looks smooth. If you do it the frame by frame way, you will have 1 keyframe for each frame, and you'll have to set your dopesheet to be a stepladder so it doesnt flash/blend your frames. You can export the animation file and add it to your model folder. Exporting the actual model is the same but you may need a larger texture atlas to fit all your frames. The last thing is that in VtubeStudio you'll have to set your idle animation to your floating animation! I know that's a lot of info and its hard to translate text to working on something, but if anything I hope it can guide you a bit or know what to look up for assistance. If you have questions feel free to comment back or dm me on twitter or something!
Oh and sorry, forgot to say, if the ball is attached to your pngs, you can detatch it in your psd file by selecting it and erasing or using ctrl+x and ctrl+v. Then when you import, it will be in its own layers / artmesh.
This was absolutely fantastic!!! I've been overwhelmed before trying to use this software and just stuck with a basic pngtuber setup but I want to give it another go, especially with how simple you can make things
