Short surfplay in whitewater boats

Nice small surf. Still trying out new GoPro 11. Used Linear Horizon leveling, 60 FPS. Works well but restricts field of view, will try wide mode next. Still haven't found a solution to water droplets on the lens!
Cape Jervis to Blowhole Beach, return

Day paddle with Adelaide Canoe Club. Perfect weather, is normally too rough on that part of the coast. Got to try out my new GoPro 11
Kayak surf play at Noarlunga, South Australia

Regular Adelaide Canoe Club paddle was cancelled due to the forecast 20knot winds, so we decided to take advantage of the conditions and have a surf play. Launched on the Onkaparinga river and paddled out with the tide through the river mouth. Really lumpy conditions, challenging but good.
Surf play at Seaford, South Australia

Surf wasn't as nice as it looked from the beach, but still had fun. Would have been better if I had remembered to put in my drain plug before launching, had to make a quick trip back to shore with a sinking kayak to fix it.

Rescue practice with Adelaide Canoe Club. Water was a lot rougher than expected, which was a good thing!
Kayak Surf Play with Adelaide Canoe Club

Took advantage of some windy weather to have a play in the surf off Adelaide with Adelaide Canoe Club. Took my new wooden stich-and-glue Petrel kayak, handled the choppy conditions well, but I found out that low volume kayaks turn into submarines in the surf!

Big River, Victoria, 2024

A short trip down Big River during Adelaide Canoe Clubs annual white-water trip to Eildon in Victoria. River was at a decent level (0.8m) for a change due to unseasonable rain storm in the previous few days.
Sea kayaking around the bottom of York Peninsula, South Australia
Просмотров 100Год назад
Weekend trip to Innes National Park. Saturday was a 24 km paddle around the bottom of the peninsula from Cable Bay to Shell Beach. 20 knot winds, choppy seas and a tippy kayak, great fun. Sunday was a more relaxing 9km paddle from Corny Point to Gravel bay
Sea kayaking south of Second Valley

Exploring the coast south of Second Valley in South Australia. Swell was bigger than expected, but that just led to more opportunities to play. Was in my Wilderness Tempest kayak, very stable and forgiving.
Murray River backwater kayaking and camping trip in the Chowilla area

Four day, three night kayak camping trip in the Chowilla Reserve. Explored Salt, Hypurna, Wilpurna and other creeks. Lots of water in the river

Nice gentle, small surf today. Tried out my new deck mount for the GoPro, works well, but the battery doesn't last too long anymore.
Downwind kayak sailing
Просмотров 87Год назад
Took advantage of the 20knt winds to do a downwind sail in the protected waters of Port Adelaide with that Adelaide Canoe Club. Winds were a bit gusty at times due to the buildings, but it was much calmer than being out on the ocean. Managed to bury the nose of my Valkyrie during some of the bigger gusts

Looks like you had a good crew and good conditions for the training, always nice to see your videos of the clubs activities and you make rolling look so easy.
Looks like a nice water level indeed!
Oh yes this is more like it gliding along!
Fantastic!! Sorry we missed the adventure!!🤔
Looks like you all had a great paddle... and a feed of yabbies too! I loved paddling Chowilla during flood... such a different way to see it 😊
You'll have to come and join us next time😊
How are things?. super~ really nice . Charles!)
Nice footage 😅
Outdoor rec TAFE trip or outdoor ed school trip? I reckon I did that same loop (lock 4, up to Eckerts, down Kat, back to lock4) for the first time (and in a touring boat) back when I was in year 11, lol. Still a really beautiful paddle no matter who you do it with!
Was a club trip with Adelaide Canoe Club (adelaidecanoeclub.org.au). They have put a new regulator in, and there is now a lot more water in the creeks. Hope to go up again later this year if they have another artifical flooding event
Great work Charles!
That looks so great, what fun! It is good to watch, to get a sense of how these experienced ones use their paddles so precisely to make control of the kayak, thanks for the video!
I'm flattered you think I'm experienced, a lot of my paddle strokes were just desperate attempts to stay upright 🙂
@@MyCharliew Well that just makes me feel more enthusiastic! I want to do that surfing thing and you seemed very successful at staying upright! Whatever works! From Treya
I can highly recommend it Treya, kayaking is great fun. Charlie
Really great surfing! Looked like a blast of a day!
It was great thanks, conditions were great. A lot more capsizes than shown on the video but water was nice and warm
Hi charles . How many km per day do you guys paddle . I enjoy the extra carry capacity of my mad river canadian canoe although its a little heavy .
We generally don't do more than 20 to 25 kms on a full days paddle. Not to strenuous if youhave lots of stops. Had a guy bring a canoe once, went ok but he had so much room he took too much stuff, ended up being very heavy and hard to paddle
@@MyCharliew thanks charles for your reply . 👍 i have been overnight camping many times as a backpacker . I dont bring stuff i dont need . I do have plenty of room . But only bring light weight essentials. Im looking for other paddlers like your selfs, to paddle with. If you are planning any more trips up the murray in the future let me know . I am a photographer who loves the river and its wild life . And been paddling 45 years . My mates idea of a paddle is about a km before they turn around . Thanks again. 🐢
@@turtlepurple9304 our trips are all Adelaide Canoe Club trips so you would have to join the club, website here: adelaide.paddle.org.au/ and Facebook page here: facebook.com/adelaidecanoeclub. In summer it is more sea paddling, but as the weather cools down there should be more river trips, keep an eye on the events calendar. If you have any trips you would like to do they are always looking for more people to organise and run trips.... A few write-ups of past river trips here facebook.com/adelaidecanoeclub/posts/2819816158147359 facebook.com/adelaidecanoeclub/posts/4327843297344630 facebook.com/adelaidecanoeclub/posts/3809864835809148
@@MyCharliew cheers mate , i was wondering about the club , they seemed so kayak oriented i have hesitated so far. I am planning to get a sea kayak soon but the Canadian allows me to take my luxury items when im shooting wildlife on the river . Thanks for the links and the info . 😀
@@turtlepurple9304 No problem. They are very kayak orientated, but there are a few canoes around, I also think we have some canoe instructors. Also have a lot of retired pensioners in the club, so not all trips are strenuous. Keep an eye on the calendar. Charlie
Is that a Zephyr?
No I am in a Tempest 170, bit of a handful in the surf. Have not heard of a Zepher before, just googled it, looks like a nice boat.
