So, few videos about recovery.... I have my surgery in a month and your video was wonderful and helpful !!!!!!
I’m having a surgery a week from tomorrow, I have no one to come in and talk to me no one to prepare food bring me anything and I am worried about this
You are so adorable! and this is the most helpful video I have watched, I can’t thank you enough! I am almost 80 years young, and will be having Macular Hole surgery soon so I have written down all your tips. I am making small casseroles for the freezer so I can tell my hubby how to heat them as he is hopeless in the kitchen, told him toast & peanut butter or crackers and cheese will do for lunch, as he is so worried about looking after me! How did you sleep - did you take that pillow table to your bed? I am in Canada, I have to rent a special chair for about $400. I am sure I heard my Dr. say 5 days but I sure hope so.🤗❤
I also live in Canada and will have surgery in about 10 days. How did it all go? Did it help?
Yes I just renewed my glasses prescription last week before I went to my retinal surgeon last appointment on October 22nd, and he said I have 20/20 vision!! I had the macular hole surgery on September 3rd, head down for 10 days, rented the vitrectomy equipment and now I feel back to normal vision-wise. My surgeon is Dr. P. Savage on Elbow Drive SW in Calgary - the best! Wishing you the best on your journey🥰
Really helpful video thankyou
Has anyone had optic disc pit malcopathy surgery?
I live on my own dont know how i will manage😪
@tt1200gt me too 😢 I’m so scared.. what condition do you have?
I might be facing that surgery soon as my partial macular hole is causing a bump underneath it. I am terrified because I have no vision already in my left eye due to either retinitis pigmentosa or uveitis. I only have one eye and if that goes I will be blind. I’m 67 and live alone. I’m terrified !!!😢
Great video! Thank u!
Yes the alert bracelet is given to all vitrectomy patients I’m now going on to week 2
Fabulous. Thank You. Hope you are doing well now.
I am 3 weeks into my recovery and I was not given any instructions on this and I just tried to the best of my ability to follow inadequate instructions to keep my head down and now my eye is healing very well and I just do my daily routine of procedures and I will see where it ends up
Very funny and even more helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much Lynne, this has given me some good ideas for if I need to do this , I have just been referred to hospital with a macular hole .
Awesome thanks. I’m in my third day
Thank you! Love your fun attitude!
16 days…oh no I’ve been told 7 days!
My surgery is next week and I was told 1 week also
@@antdwg67 Goodluck to You !
@@antdwg67 how are you feeling? My 7 day face down is over
@@antdwg67 how did your surgery go? i’m done with the face down, but now I’m experiencing some swelling in my face that I’m having trouble getting it to go away. did you experience any swelling in your face from having it down so much? How’s your gas bubble doing? They don’t tell you about that it wobbling up and down and back-and-forth also making me feel dizzy.
@@enza3770 My surgery went well... I finished my face down last Thursday (Thank God) I had some pain for the 1st couple of days and a little swelling which is gone now. I am just waiting for the gas bubble to dissolve which can be up to 2 months
Thank you for this video. I am scheduled for my operation in a couple of weeks and want to be prepared for my post operation face down positioning. I like your idea of the basket with essentials.
Thank you SO much for your videos on this. I am about to go through all this in the near future and it's scary. One question is: how do you eat if you have to keep your head down?
Thank you so much. I am so terrified. I am scheduled for surgery to close a macular hole. 12/8/23. Thanks for the hope.
I had a vitrectomy abroad and neither me or my fellow patients had to posture much. I postured for 3 x 2 hours the first day then 1 x 2 hours the next day then I was done. Posturing for weeks doesn’t seem common practice here
We’re is that?
Good heavens, I realize this was years ago but I am hoping that this is not what I will have to go through. I just learned of the hole and won't see the specialist until next week but my goodness I'm hoping procedures have gotten more advanced. You are great to share this with us.
THIS GAS BUBBLE BS IS FROM HELL! MOST OF THESE DOCTORS ARE LYING TO YOU ABOUT SO MUCH...THE 2 DROPS THEY GIVE AFTER SURGERY BOTH CAUSE BLINDNESS AND CATARACTS AND A HOST OF OTHER CONDITIONS THAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A 2ND SURGERY...DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Thank you.
I never got a thing to lean on after the eye op ,but i found it very hard and never put the time in which is why 1 eye is worse then before the op ,luckily i have 1 good eye.
So helpful. Thank you!!
🎉🎉
Thanks so much for all the wonderful practical suggestions Lynne! I’m having this surgery tomorrow morning. You’ve been a great help!
Great video! Lots of great information. Thank you. I'm about 3 weeks away from having my retina tear taken care of.
Love your video. Tx.
I am preparing for my second macular hole surgery in the other eye. First time before surgery I was told to walk around the house with a napkin under my chin and look down. If there is something I think I will want put that item on a coffee table or chair or floor where I can see it. This includes small appliances you might use for heating food. In the frig...put items on the bottom shelf or place them up front in the freezer door for easy access. Put two tennis balls in a sock and sew it to the back of your sleep garment so you don't roll over on your back. You will not sleep thru the night, naps are great. Nose-to-the-toes is what my doc said. Only 10 min of each hour can be head up for eye drops. Use a cane that you can rest your forehead on while walking about so you don't raise your head. I did the whole process living alone. For women chest pain can be the hardest part. Roll a towel and place it between your breast or a long narrow pillow for when you are resting your chest against the positioning supports.
wish someone had told me any of these!
how many days to take complete vision
Thanks for the video
Oh my goodness, I know you did this video 4 years ago but you can’t imagine how comforting it was to hear you speak and prepare me for the number of days I needed to spend in the torture chair. I made it to the other side and I am recovering now with my gas bubble preventing me from seeing for the next 2-4 weeks. But I am optimistic and truly appreciate your video which helped me tremendously ❤️
Did you get any eye damage to your eye lids someone told me that with them pulling your eye lid open thank you so much for the video
I felt the above during surgery and they had to add more drops to my eye.Lid was black and blue for 2 weeks.NOw having issues still trying to regulate my eye presure.still using 10 drops a day 3 weeks and 6 days later. In Canada 90% of the time you also have cataract surgery after this because thatis what trama from the eye surgery causes.I am not a Happy Camper these days.
I am going for my macular hole surgery in two days. So how is your vision and how are the issues that have developed in three years since your surgery, please advise any thing else that you like to share on your road to recovery, Thanks.
Thank you for this video
Thanks so much Lynne. You’ve really cheered me up. And you’ve some great tips. I’m on day 4 and struggling. Been a bit snappy w visitors but you’ve made me feel grateful to have some. They can make heir own refreshments - I’ve felt pressure to host them as it’s just what I do. 🧡
Thanks so much for making this video. No one is talking about how to get through the recovery period. You’re very helpful. Fortunately you can now get better recovery equipment. I’ll have a set of a forward leaning supportive chair, the tabletop unit and a nice set of cushions for sleeping facedown on the bed.
Thank you for this post.
very useful for me as as prospective candidate for surgery. Can I ask if you had cataract surgery done at the same time?
Wow! You're lucky! I had to hold an odd angle on two axes for 55 minutes of every hour MINIMUM. 24/7 for two weeks, and nothing like that nice padded device - I just had to commit the posture to muscle memory. After the first two weeks another two with slightly more leeway on time in position. I was so sedentary (and lying on only one side) that I had a diverticulitis flareup half way through. AND, I gained weight! You are so right about heightened hearing acuity! I heard noises that were MINISCULE! BUT...it was worth every extremely boring minute to have sight restored in the eye! You just have to grit your teeth and plow through the agonizing boredom.
Will you please say what repetitive timer program you used to inform you of your 10min. breaks.
Can you tell us how you slept?
Nightmare is an understatement! Fortunately posturing is a thing of the past now...only mention this for any future patients reading these comments. Hope your eye is still OK.
@Luis V It wasn't for my surgery, but I don't know if this applies with all surgeons, so best to check. The surgeon I had never explains 'anything' so I will never know the reason and won't be returning. Do you have a vitrectomy in your future? Hope it goes well for you. Edited to add...if it wasn't for RUclips I wouldn't have had a clue.
@Luis V Can I suggest one thing...make 'sure' you have a method of contact between you and the surgeon, just in case you need to communicate during the surgery. You won't be able to speak (move your eyes/face), can't move your hands etc and I needed to talk to the surgeon urgently with no prior arrangement made, however I'm sure he realised I was trying and he just ignored me. Thankfully the surgery and recovery was OK, but I'm now looking for another surgeon to remove the cataract. Mine was a Macular Tear. Will be thinking of you.
@Luis V How was your surgery? Been thinking about you.
Sir can we masturbate 2 days after surgery?
Not True in Canada it is still very common.I wish it were NOT.
Thanks so much! I’m having this surgery in two days. The posturing was not mentioned. Not looking forward to it. Not knowing when this was recorded, I hope your recovery has been or will be 100% successful!
Thank you very much for your video. Tuesday, I learned I'll be having surgery on Monday, Nov. 30. Everything went so fast that I didn't have any time to process what was going on. In a few, I'm going to get the vitrectomy chair. I was looking for some tips, testimonies, or something from those who had this surgery before, and I found yours, which I find great! This experience, I'm thinking, is going to be somehow challenging since I'm the caregiver of my 93 years old and in Covid-19 time. I think I'll be writing some of my thoughts in my journal. Oki doki, bye-bye.
Thanks for sharing...

I’m due to have a vitrectomy on Tuesday 31st March in the middle of the Coronavirus lockdown! No friends or family visiting, my husband will be taking everything on! Your video has been very useful. Luckily I got hold of a vitrectomy chair before lockdown, but I’m obviously limited as to getting much else together, but I’ll spend the weekend preparing as much as I can! Like you I play golf and exercise (though not since my eye problem occurred) and look forward to the summer when I hope normal life will resume! Thanks for posting.
I'm going to have the surgery in a week. It's going to be hard during the pandemic. No visitors. I'm afraid to visit people before the surgery also.
They said my friend needed this posture for 6 weeks
