I love that, its very relaxing and soothing. It's also very laid-back.
Recorded with a fisher price tape recorder .
A “Doc” banjo? Doc Watson?
Boggs
Love it
I'm with ya! That "cluck" is a beast to figure out. Thanks for sharing this video.
It reminds me more of a horse trotting on pavement. I always think of the sound of a horse clippity clopping.
And he doesn't show us the drop thumb of the right hand
Well, that was my fault. I only recorded the left hand.
The Old Grey Cat.
Thanks for putting this up . Really nice
Grate post thanks for sharing.
D Loclynn check out his update: ruclips.net/video/UsE_SPQwZ9Q/видео.html
good update loved it. I spend alot of time listening to GOA these day's.and so harkening back to a simpler form was emotionally enlightening. I am always on the hunt for altered states of mind.Notwithstanding this picking took me back . Thank you for sharing. .
Anyone who knows which song he is playing?
I asked Dan, and he says he's mostly noodling around, but playing something close to a tune called Down The Road, which is related to Ever See The Devil Uncle Joe, and maybe one other tune he can't quite recall.
Man that banjo sounds good. And great playing. Rock the cradle is a fine song.
Probably just holding a 1 chord. Could also be doing a hammer on to the first string some of the times.
Here for the cluck. Nice clucking. Trying to clarify what clawhammer banjo is. Seen many videos on clawhammer banjo and none mentioned or demonstrated the cluck, until I found rocket science banjo. Yours here is the first other example of the cluck that I have found. Is the cluck a vital part of clawhammer technique?
Where was the thumb?
Any idea of the name of this tune? I don't recognise it. It sure has plenty of drop thumb in it...
VERY MUSICAL STYLE!
Angelina Baker also, Stephen Foster.
All you have to do is put the time in.
love the sound of the A part toward the end, whats your left hand doing? it has a different sound that how i learned, i like it
@VashElric Yes! He really does! Check out his music from the 1980s and 90s. Band is called Boiled Buzzards. Their music influenced many bands that followed. Dan's website
I wish I had that banjo and could play like that. I don't think I've ever do anything else haha. My foregoing unemployment would probably become a problem, but hey... at least I could go a pickin'
I love this song!
Have heard this at least a thousand times before, but never at this relaxed pace. And I have to say, I actually prefer it like this. Sometimes banjo playing focuses more on speed than it does character. Well done, this is tasty.
thanks for the brush at start of PT. b
fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
wonderful, just wonderful...thx for sharing
That's a good style of playing!
Nice, I was thinking it was a Doc's but I am going to have to look into Huss & Daltons.
The banjo is a Huss & Dalton Singletree Whyte Laydie. Yes, Dan plays great banjo!... Always!
That's a pretty sweet banjo. What kind is it? I've never seen one with a recessed neck quite like that. Good playing btw!
Yes. I learned it this way which confuses many when I play it at jams. LOL.
This was Dan showing me at intermediate speed during our lesson. Check out the RUclips video from ezfolk777 called Bum Ditty for Clawhammer Banjo. It's very well explained there. :))
It would be helpful if you explained what you're doing or show the pattern at a slow speed
Just realized that Dan plays "Fortune" after Rock The Cradle. Sorry I missed it. Just added it to the description.
Good stuff!!!
Been a year I still enjoy it just as much !!!
There is tab for this in his book Old Time Festival Tunes, note however that he opens with the B part in this rendition.
Hi there, sorry it took so long to get back to you. The banjo is a Huss & Dalton Singletree Whyte Laydie.
what kind of banjo is this ?
what kind of banjo is this ?
I like this version.
Nice job, I can't wait to use this when I get around to learn that on my fiddle.
Just Beautiful ! Cheers From St. Louis !
Me, neither! I love "Angeline" though.
I could spend years debating what my next banjo will be, but i think that i will keep coming back to this video and the OME Wizard as the next logical choice.
Yes, Dan has a very unique style. I love his rhythmic, string band sound.
i have been playing and building guitars for over 20 years... built a banjo a few years back... not a frailin' banjo, but a resonator type. i have decided to learn to frail. man you have some smooth playing. thank you for posting this video. you make it look easy, man. hope it becomes easy for me.
Very tasteful and clear approach... nicely done sir.
OUTSTANDING
