Pitch problems from the very beginning really ruined this incredible piece for me….the woodwinds, the horns, and even-most surprisingly-the first violin section, were out of tune far too often for me to watch the whole performance. I expect to hear pitch issues from time to time with the organ, because that’s the nature of the instrument, but there’s no excuse for the orchestra (and the conductor) to not notice such glaring problems.
But one must not forget that this is an amateur orchestra. stay fair please!

As a admirer of Pipe Organs blended with orchestra, I enjoyed the performance. However it sounded like the string section and the brass were not in the same/proper key occasionally; also notably at the final crescendo. And the organ parts did not sound like a Pipe Organ. It could have been, but likely electronically produced. The room should have 'rumbled' with a true pipe organ. Certainly an ambitious undertaking. Thank you all.
Actually the Christuskirche has a big pipe organ, right behind the altar and pulpit. It was installed in 1966 - and updated in 2008-10 de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christuskirche_(Karlsruhe)

@Wizard of Odds - Since there aren’t many concerti with pipe organ, you might want to listen to organ works alone til you get the sound of a _real_ pipe organ in your ear….there is absolutely no mistaking their sound. Also, a question you might ask yourself is, why on God’s earth would an orchestra of this size assemble to accompany an electronic organ?? It would be drowned out, that’s for sure, and the sound they posses is _terrible._ I agree with pitch problems, but I heard them from the beginning (especially in the wind section) and had to stop listening because of this.
I'm familiar with the different sound quality generated by an acoustic pipe organ compared to that of a digital instrument, and I acknowledge that SS presents us with a symphony and not an organ concerto. The organ is one of the instruments of the orchestra, and not a solo instrument, but the organ in this recording lacks something ... apart from the final section, I barely heard it. There was none of the brightness that comes with mixtures and mutation stops. Perhaps that was a conscious decision of the organist or the conductor, or perhaps it is simply the voicing of the organ itself. I note the comment by Fr Zugger, so I accept that the organ is indeed a pipe instrument.
I notice that the timpanist has his timpani drums in the German configuration

@@davidvanrooyen4332 american position is when the 32” (big one) is on the left side of the player, that’s because it’s modeled after how a piano also has the lower notes on the left side. German is when the big one is on the right side of the player, this is technically seen more favorably due to most people being right handed therefore they have more strength to hit the bigger timpani which requires more force to ring.
@@xoknight8166 Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I learned two things ... first about the configuration, but also about the 32' voicing of timpani. I am familiar with 32' organ pipes, but was not aware that tympani are similarly voiced.
Man, at 33: 11 someone's horn goes badly out of tune.
