Love Patti and she great singing this apart from her cockney accent but i can forgive that because she’s great

I like Patti. But in this role, she doesn't even come close to the perfection that Angela Lansbury brought to it.

I saw Sweeney on Broadway in 1980, near the end of the run, and I could swear I saw Angela and Len in the roles--but I may be remembering their voices on the recording. Maybe the performance I watched was Dorothy Loudon and George Hearn, who replaced them. In any case, I was also in it, as a member of the ensemble, in Denver at the Bonfils Theatre in 1983. We had a pretty fab Mrs. Lovett ourselves. Patti singing this is *tremendous* and vocally unmatched--what a set of lungs! I do think Lansbury got the accent, the characterization, and the entire esprit better than anyone since... especially since she created the role and Sondheim wrote it for her voice! It was a (grim, dark, powerful) joy to be part of our production in Denver so long ago... thrilled I had the opportunity!

She’s a very good actress with a spectacularly powerful and expressive voice. Personally I think she’s not great casting for the part. She’s so powerful, she rivals Sweeney. And as clear as she makes everything, again my opinion, it’s almost too clear. It feels really technical. That said, she deftly brings so many great touches to this song. She’s truly a masterful actress for sure. I just miss the vulnerability and oddball flakiness that Lansbury brought to the role.

As I listen I picture Yellow Diamond from Steven Universe singing this.

Undeniably a GREAT talent, amazing voice. Stunning voice. Probably a good actress too, ---- for another role. Sometimes the best singer isn't required for a role to make the character fit. She changes accent like a hundred times and it's a bad one, it's too focused on singing well and not character acting. Then at some points she isn't even belting, it's actual yelling. As a vocalist she beats them all, as Mrs. Lovett she is at the bottom for me. I can't say one is better than the other out of Helena and Angela. Two opposite end ambienced potrayals.

Incredible musicianship, but...she sounds more New York than London.

I love at 2:15 when she sings "a woman alone" and flirts with him, looking him up and down. And, of course, that is her motivation. She is looking for a man, while all he can see is revenge.
