Putting Ceiling Texture | First Attempt at Skip Troweling

I just bought the Metabo C12RSH3, similar to your Metabo. Replaced a non-sliding Metabo. I really like it but there is a learning curve at least for me. But very good saw so far. I’ve had it less than a week.,
Great! It's a great saw, and the one you got is really basically the same with small differences. After 3 years of using this on my house, I finally had to make an adjustment to square it back up. I have been thinking about making an update video to this.
Did you see much warping or bending of the pickets as they drie prior to staining? I bought cedar pickets to redo part of my fence and after getting them home and sanding them, they say for a few days before I was ready to stain and install them. During those few days, the pickets continued to dry which led to several of them starting to bend and a few even warped a bit. Thanks for the video.
No, these were all pretty wet still, and I didn't sand any of them I just placed them and started rolling on the stain. I did one side of my fence where I hung them and then stained them, and I see they are cracking and warping faster than these. I am going to be redoing that entire fence this spring.
@@thinkitthendoit3224 Oh man that sucks. Apparently you're supposed to wait till the moisture content is about 15% before staining. I live in AZ and moisture content doesn't come into play. A few of the boards I got were a little wet but they were dried out in a day with 95° temps and single digit humidity, . I decided to use a solid stain for better color appearance. Cheers from Phoenix!
@@stevemclean5787 I think this was more to the quality of the board, than moisture. I got these right in the middle of the building supply rush of covid, and I spent a lot of the time picking the good boards from the bad ones.
I really like your style of objective nature, you didn’t take a side on any feature or function of the saw, I mean you didn’t sugar coat anything, you expressed your opinion and were very clear on the things you’d change for your workflow. I just wanted to say thanks for an honest and thorough review…best of luck to you and yours 🤙🏻✌🏻
Thank you!
Just got 1. At lowes for $400. I bought because it was same as renting 1 for a week.
It's been pretty handy. I have done six bathrooms with it, and I am about to do a seventh. If you can afford it, I would pick this blade up, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JBJJRC8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 . It's has multiple layers of diamonds that you can access with with an abrasive block.
You still using this saw? I just ordered one tonight and was curious how it’s doing now.
Yes, Sir I am! In Sept/Oct I finished 3-2000 sgft houses of trim and baseboard it was a knock-out worker. I still have not knocked out of the square with all the wood I have done.
Great review! About the handle, I believe it is meant to be ambidextrous. I have the 10" version with a horizontal handle and it is difficult to manipulate left-handed.
Interesting take on that! My dad has a ridged with the horizontal and he is left-handed as well, and it felt weird to him as well. After doing 3 2000sqft homes worth of casing and baseboards I have really become comfortable with grip.
Funny....this will be my third year with mine. Just doing my first adjustment for my fences and Lazer. I was worried about keeping my muscle memory from the old c-10's. This saw is a beast. The guard gets caught on larger boards when cutting a miter.... It's great for production cutting because it's a bit overkill for simple base and case. It chews through 100 year old heartwood oak like a chainsaw. You can cut 8 inch mantles NO problem. It will cut a 12 inch board. It's fkn heavy man.... It's not a service saw... Set it up and leave it on a trim job if you can. I bought another cart to roll it around in the shop. The plate is so tall compared to a ten inch. It really needs a custom table for it. I run the Dewalt legs because the Metabo was out of stock during covid. I love this saw.... I hate carrying it. It needs good blades to really shine.
Love it! I have been chewing up the trim boards and have not had to make any adjustments yet. I am about to buy a Diablo blade for mine. Thanks for the comment!
So when you put up your durock what do use to seal it to the tile on floor? The grout or a silicone?
So I didn't use anything to seal it other than Aqua-defense after I laid the dura rock. When I put the time tile up, I used 100% silicone for the bottom.
Im going to pick up the Kobalt 7" (great for my needs) Noticed the diverter valve on this 10". I personally get a kick out of simple "extra" features. I was going to add it to my 7" for sh*ts & grins. It appears Kobalt does not have that on the newer model. For what you paid ($659 now) - I would easily forget any negatives. 😏
Oh for sure, the other option they did away with is the variable speed as well. That has come in handle a few times I have done tile. There are times, I want to just use the manual etching title cutter but this one has saved me a lot of hours of cutting tiles. I am planning on doing a second review on this as well as another tile saw, I'm recovering from Knee surgery so it will be a bit before I am back in full steam. Thank you for the comment, I hope the 7" works for you. You might go to Amazon and see if you can pick up a Pearl blade in 7", that has been the best blade I have spent money on. Also, make sure if you do get one buy an abrasive block with it, when I thought the blade went bad I reached out to the company and they said there are multiple diamond layers it will take a lot to wear out that blad.
Being left-handed, I'm hoping that the vertical handle is better for me. Having the handle horizontal (and on the right side) is an issue for me.
My dad is left-handed and he likes it more than, his Ridged horizontal handle.
@@thinkitthendoit3224 this is going to be my Christmas present. I’m excited about adding this to my small but growing arsenal!

Great name for the channel
Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I just bought one for $349 And I was happy until I heard your "$299". Ok., I'm still happy. I need a zero-clearance 12" Miter saw and $349 is still a great late 2022 price. I am building mine into a permanent miter bench and carry my DeWalt 10" with me for remote operation with a generator. 80% of my work is done in the shop so a 12" zero-clearance saw is paramount. The remaining 20% of my work is done remotely, on a 10kw generator. Welders, saws (My 10" DeWalt), lighting, etc... is all done remotely, so I never need to carry this saw anywhere. It will be permanently bolted to the miter station's desktop. All that said, I'm a computer hacker. I don't even do woodworking for a living. It's more a hobby for me. Though I did grow up on a farm and always build my houses by hand, from scratch. I'm an engineer at heart.
Right! I knew I couldn't pass it up for $299. But someone just commented that they had it at their Costco for $189 or something like that.
$179 at Costco this week
I might have to check it out... It could be a good xmas gift for someone on my family.
Very good job young man.
Thank you, it turned out much better than I excepted.
Nice review thank you!
Thanks, Kelly, I'm not sure it was my best work but it got the job done.
I just bought this saw. I’m excited to use it and I’ve used miter saws a lot in the past but never had one like this. I M a little intimidated after reading the book and all the minor tweaks it says to do before you use it. I’m a 67 year old grandma and this saw had all the features I was looking for. And for me the handle being the position it is is much easier on my arthritic wrist to use.
Do not feel overwhelmed you got this.. You will be really happy with this miter saw.
Is this the C12RSH2S model? Still like it? Any regrets? thanks.
It is yes... Still LOVE IT. Not yet, stay tuned I am finishing a new review on this and will be posting and I am going to give you more thoughts on this.
What I have learned is that for me how adjustable the saw is, ends up being much more important than the features that manufacturers like to focus on. I don't care if it has a light or a laser or some other gimmicky feature , what I care about are adjustable detents and stops, so that the saw can be more easily set to cut nice and straight and square after it gets moved around. For framing and construction work it doesn't matter nearly as much, but for woodworking you need that adjustability and precision.
After using this more and more, I know what I am using, and what I don't care about at this point with it, so I am in agreement with you on a lot of what you said. I think I need to do a review 2.0 and really focus in on some of those areas that I think are more important than the others. Thank you for the comment!
They 7 inch one is the best , for 10 inches definable dewalt worth extra 300$
I think I like the 7" as well, I have been able to play with a friend of mine. The 10" I have not played with I do need one of the window screens builds; however, if I am going to spend an additional $300 I would buy a milwaukee
@@thinkitthendoit3224do you happen to know how much it weighs? It's not listed on Lowe's where it's sold.
@@YukonJack I never actually weighed it, it's moderately heavy and more awkward to lift on its own but with the stand, it makes it pretty easy to load into the back of a truck.
@@thinkitthendoit3224 thanks, it took a while but I saw it listed about 120 pounds. I've read a lot of reviews on it and it seems the majority of the camps say either it's great or it's terrible. I have a seven inch ridge wet saw and it works alright, but I can only cut through 4.5 inches of material if I flip the piece and do both sides. Harbor Freight has a $500 wet saw ($400 with coupon but 20% restock fee) and no stand, Lowes has this one for around $640 with a stand, and outside of those two I'm seeing 10 inch saws being $900+. I'm using mine for fossils, agates, petrified wood, and things like that. I can get a super light weight and small 10 inch lapidary saw for around one thousand, so this one and the harbor freight one seem to be the only two options that won't cost $900-$1,200. Talk about being between a rock (or fossil) and a hard place. I have some really nice colored and rough big chunks of pet wood, jasper, and agates that I can't do on my seven inch saw. I think this saw has some nice features but the bad reviews on Lowe's are pretty bad. I'll need to chew on it and figure out what to do. Thanks again for the response, have a great Christmas and New Years 👌🏽
*I was able to use the stop to cut my pieces all the same **MyBest.Tools** Only let the blade come to a complete stop before lifting it back up otherwise it might 'catch' the work and inadvertently move the stop. Used a second clamp for holding.*
Your going to get hurt doing shit like that...
Are you talking about when I used it to miter out a board?
So you cannot cut 48 inch tile?
It could be done.. but not in one pass you would have to get creative in the placement of the tile on the deck. If it were me i think i would want a like a radiial arm saw wet tile saw for something like that.. here is what i might consider a better option www.tools4flooring.com/rubi-diamant-dc-250-1200-1-5-hp-48-tile-saw.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw0a-SBhBkEiwApljU0iFGskXlBBlFgrSTX9C88bsAEGsioaGjUS6jerVKffwNcbCaP3aQahoCS3kQAvD_BwE .
No saw would cut 48 inch tile unless you get big bridge one
Our shops gone through 5 in just over a year. These things are genuine garbage
Thank you for your comment tell us more about what went wrong with them? I have had the opposite comments from contractors.
I need help. I just started setting up my saw for the first time. My blade comes down but it strikes the insert and doesn't fit in the hole. I can see that the blade is canted rather than straight down. Now, after playing with it for a while with the locking pin out of it's hole the blade won't even come down. Thanks
Well from what I am getting the blade isn't going down? Have you adjusted the cutting depth screw on the left side?
@@thinkitthendoit3224 I've got the problem solved on the blade descending. To line the blade up I found I will have to loosen the set screws on the rails and line up blade and retighten.

@@jimewelsh Great! I'm glad I was able to help! That factory blade is pretty darn good I have used it on aluminum as well as wood. Have fun with it and thanks for watching and Subscribing.
@@jimewelsh Hi James. Have you put this saw to the test yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I have the Dewalt that's around 2 years old and I'm already looking to replace it because of those rails in the back. I'm more of a hobby woodworker, not doing any heavy construction or anything like that. But obviously, I still need something that cuts extremely accurate without out any problems. I'm happy with the Dewalt but I can't stand those rails anymore, so I wouldn't mind replacing it. Thanks!!
I've had two, and five DeWalt 760-780s. DeWalt is better in bevel and I like the DeWalt trigger and 780 shadow light working indoors. This saw has better cut clearance and depth stop, and soft start. DeWalt seems to be a step up in casting quality, but the price difference makes me happy with the metabo. One more thing- crown stops are stupid expensive ($60) for this saw, and only $15 for DeWalt.
These are total junk !
Don't hold back explain why you think it they suck?
These are the best saws on the market.
@@thinkitthendoit3224 Yes, I'd like him to elaborate more about it also. 🤔 Maybe it didn't hold up too well after he dropped it. 🤷♂️🤦♂️😁
I like your video on this product. I bought one today at Lowe's in Alabama. I went to buy a Delta table saw and seen the Metabo on clearance for $165.00. 1st time in my life I found a great deal on something like this. I usually need something and buy it for full price and then it goes on sale. I have not used it yet and was very skeptical of the saw and your review helped me out. Thanks
Awesome I am so glad that I can help! I think you will be really happy with this saw. I seem to pull it out for the smallest of things now rather than using some other saw. You are the 2nd person that said it was on clearance, I thought I was cutting a fat hog for what I paid for mine. I hope you enjoy it, come back and let us know what you think later!
To bad you bought it so soon. They were on sale for 164 this week.
I wish I could have, but I was in the middle of doing finish work and just couldn't cut another piece of trim by hand.
This is a great saw. I have had mine now for over 5 months. Right out of the box, I did not have to make any type of adjustments.. It was dead on. I was certainly shocked. (but, in all fairness, my first miter saw was a Craftsman which I needed to adjust all the time..)
Oh yes, my friend had bought a craftsman he about through it out of his truck going down the freeway...lol.

Those handles fail. I took 3 of those miter saws back. Everyone failed over that trigger handle. I have a 779 dewalt that I picked up. That handle is just not good on that saw. If they changed that I would buy another one. The Hercules I bought to just see how it works. Is a clone of the 779 dewalt. Both r accurate out of the box. I take my Hercules to do finish work on my Jobsites now. Best saw I've owned. My 779 stays at my shop at my house. Go look up the Hercules face off with the Dewalt. Posted on Tool of den page
I was originally going to buy the Hercules but I had a bad experience at Harbor freight when I tried to buy it I went to Lowe's.
Great that you now found your window! Have a great sunday Lobo
Thank you, it was fun searching for this window just happy I got it before the weather turned on me. You have a wonderful day as well!
So, mush fun walking around that place, I could have spent another hour pointing out stuff but sometimes you just gotta get it and go. The local yard is John's U-Pull and U-Save.
Haven't been to that one.
Solumel would have taken the paint off with a steel wool. Maybe a green kitchen sponge.
Haha.. I was going for a green brillo pad but didn't have one.
