After his studies, he became organist at Rochester Cathedral and from 1932 to his death in 1946, he was the organist at the Bournemouth Pavilion. Alth...

Francis Jackson (1917-2022) - Sonata no. 3 (Allegro placido)
Просмотров 902 месяца назад
Without doubt, a towering figure in the world of classical and church music throughout much of the 20th century and into nearly the first quarter of the 21st, there are not many in the organ world who do not know something about the organist and composer, Francis Jackson. From 1946 to 1982, he served as organist of York Minster, playing there for many significant occasions, including in 1961, f...
Graham Twist - Rhapsody for Organ: 'Veni Creator Spiritus'
Просмотров 1473 месяца назад
This is my interpretation of Graham Twist's 'Rhapsody', based on the well-known plainsong 'Veni Creator'. Recently, Graham was the very worthy winner of the Friends of Blackburn Cathedral composition competition with this piece, and it was premiered on Pentecost Sunday at Blackburn by the organist-in-residence, John Hosking. I have chosen the Goch sample set from Piotr Grabowski (via Hauptwerk)...

Born in the Bundesland of Baden-Württemburg, Karg-Elert received his formative musical training in Leipzig, studying at the conservatory with Carl Reinecke and Robert Teichmüller, amongst others. After a brief spell as a piano teacher in Magdeburg, Karg-Elert returned to Leipzig, and encouraged by Edvard Grieg, devoted himself to composition, initially for the piano. Famously, Duruflé was at the side of Louis Vierne in the tribune at Notre Dame when Vierne died at the console the...
Tim Knight (b. 1959) - Psalm Reflections for Organ (set 2)

The multi-talented Tim Knight (composer, arranger, sheet music publisher, conductor, mentor - to name but some of his many skills) has recently published his second set of Psalm Reflections for organ. In similar vein to the first set, they reflect the varying characters of the psalm texts, ranging from ebullient, joyous and strident to introspective, gentle and reverent in nature. The vast kale...
Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) - Crucifixion from 'Symphony-Passion'
Просмотров 755 месяцев назад
Dupré’s achingly raw and vivid depiction of the Crucifixion needs little in the way of comment, but he was probably mindful of the Gospels’ retelling of the hours leading up to and including Christ’s death on the cross. From Luke (Chapter 23): ‘And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyre’ne, who was coming in from the country, and laid him on the cross, to carry it behind Jesus…’ ‘T...

Jongen was born in Liège, Belgium, and his profound musical ability was recognised at the age of 7, when he was admitted to the Liège Conservatoire. He excelled at the conservatoire, quickly winning prizes for counterpoint and piano and by the time he was 13, he had already composed a significant number of pieces. In 1897, he won the Belgian 'Prix de Rome', enabling him to travel in Europe. Aft...

Thanks so much for listening and your kind comment!
Mesmerizing music, Paul ✨
Thank you for listening, Cornelia!
Wonderful performance!😀
Thanks so much!
who published grnenwald' s music?
H W Gray in the 20th century although much of this is long out of print. Alphonse Leduc now.
Magnifique interprétation de la fameuse Toccata de la Suite Gothique. On peut se demander ce que Boëllmann aurait pu nous donner comme oeuvres s'il ne nous avait quittés à l'âge de 35 ans !
Thank you so much! Yes, it was a cruelly young age to die.
W O W ! This is the first time I have heard this Grunenwald work and what a way to be introduced to a masterpiece played by you, a simply amazing organist interpreting and registering on a fabulous sample set. Awesome, Paul. What a treat: B R A V O !
Thanks so much, Graham! Glad you enjoyed it.
A perfect piece for this sample, well done!
Thanks, Ralph!
Thanks for sharing this lovely unfamiliar piece, Paul! Your channel is very refreshing to listen to.
You’re welcome, Vidas! Grunenwald’s music is underperformed, but it is impressive stuff. Thanks for listening!
What a terrific performance and informative background you've presented here! I'm a huge Dupré fan and certainly no stranger to the great organ of St. Sulpice. It's wonderful to learn more about an artist I wasn't very familiar with. Thank you for sharing yet another fabulous, insightful and delightful post!
Thank you for your lovely comment, Christopher! Later this year, I’ll record some more of Grunenwald’s music for RUclips. Best wishes to you from the UK.
Wonderful Paul 👏👏👏
Thanks so much, Peter! 🙏
Thanks, Paul, for this intriguing work! I've not played any Gruenwald, so I appreciate you expanding my horizons. Wonderful choice of the Landau sample set for its distinctive French quality.
Thanks, Brooks! The Landau set is superb but its palette of colours is mind-blowing, so registering was quite a challenge for this one!
Great Paul! Thanks for the music and the extended description!
Thanks so much for listening, Rien!
I trully love this opus. Beautiful piece Paul !
@@remi-chapalain Thank you, Rémi! It is a lovely piece by Dupré.
Impressive piece and playing !!! Bravo Paul !
Thanks so much, Rémi!
Today's Dupré upload is very different in character to the thrilling toccata we heard in 'Placare Christe Servulis' - though another exquisite performance! I love the contemplative, affecting mood of this setting of 'Te Lucis Ante Terminum' and you have the piece masterfully registered on the magnificent Friesach Organ sample set: bravo. Paul!
Thanks so much for listening, Graham!
Very humble and meditative rendition, Paul ✨
Thank you for listening, Cornelia!
This is somewhat sad but hopeful miniature!
Yes, I think so, too. The character of the piece definitely has elements of both!
Wonderful Paul!😁👏👏👏
Thanks, Peter! 🙏
@@paulswindenmusic You're so welcome!😁
Paul, what a soulful, meditative, and healing presentation, played with feeling and purpose. I love the solo stops on the Friesach sample, so it fits this wonderful "sound poem" by Dupré.
Thank you, Brooks! There is definitely a plaintive quality to that cornét on the solo division of Friesach.
I think this collection will be a classic in 50 years or less... Fantastic playing style too.
Thanks, Vidas! Yes, these are great pieces by Tim Knight.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Virtuoso playing, Paul! What an awesome performance of this thrilling toccata by Marcel Dupré which sounds fabulously brilliant on the Father Willis Organ sample set from Hereford Cathedral. That final Tuba flourish is just stunning! You are amazing, Paul - every upload is outstanding: B R A V O !
Thanks so much, Graham! Glad you enjoyed this one!
This piece sounds very exciting and colorful!❤
Absolutely - it’s a great piece to play!
What an exciting composition and performance, Paul 👏🏻
Thank you, Cornelia! 🙏

What a joyful piece with vim and gusto, Paul! A great demonstration of your skill and capacity as an excellent musician!
Many thanks for listening and your kind comment, Brooks!
You did or again. Fabulous playing! Wonderful! You really should get an invitation for St Sulphice!
Maybe one day! Thanks for listening, Rien! 🙏
Thank you sir. Incredible instrument, extraordinary performance!
Thanks so much for listening!

@@ALRIGHTdieBand thank you so much! 👍
Wonderful performance and a very dramatic and fantastic opus🎶💐🎶

"... rousing stuff indeed..." I couldn't agree more! It is always a pleasure to listen to you masterfully present these great works. Thank you, Paul.
Thank you for your kind comments, Brooks! Best wishes from the UK to you.
A thrilling performance of this Whitlock gem on a Father Willis sample set that has a magnificent Tuba and a big 32' reed to bring the piece to a rousing climax: bravo, Paul! Stupendous playing!
Thank you so much, Graham! I remember hearing Marko Sever play this piece as a closing voluntary when he was organ scholar at Westminster Cathedral: that was a thunderous end on the mighty Willis organ there, too!
Wonderful quite advanced trios!
Definitely - exquisitely written miniatures in trio form!
English Tubas are the best!
Yes - definitely!
This is such a beautiful piece.
It’s one of Whitlock’s finest lyrical offerings, for sure. Thanks for listening, Vidas!
Wonderful piece and playing Paul ! It's nice to discover modern english composers with you !
Thanks so much, Rémi! There will be some more Whitlock to follow later this year. 👍
When you play I’m mesmerized - it sounds so powerful 🤩
Thank you for your lovely comment, Cornelia! I’m glad you liked the music. 🙏

Thank you!
Beautiful Paul!😁👍👏👏

My last one of the day. Beautiful piece! Typical English! I like the thundering last pedal note!
Thanks, Rien! Yes, the Hereford organ does thundering quite well! 😉
This is a thoroughly enjoyable performance. Well done!
Thank you!
As mentioned by Graham and others, such a beautiful presentation, Paul! You really make the Friesach sample sing. Thank you for continuing efforts to share interesting and wonderful music. Good luck in your Hauptwerk rebuild. I look forward to what the future holds over the coming weeks and this Fall.
Thank you for your kind comments and support, Brooks! We are moving back to London over the summer, so there will be a cautious and careful rebuild of the instrument once we are there. Once I’ve figured out how to use OBS technology, I’m hoping to do one or two live concerts on RUclips over the coming months. Have a great summer!
Beautiful Paul 😁👏👏👏
Thank you, Peter! 🙏

Played with wonderfully artistic finesse by you, Paul, and registered beautifully on the Friesach Organ sample set: bravo! As Vidas remarks, I don't think the Trios by Rheinberger receive much attention these days, so I applaud you championing such fine music and I remain in awe of your performance virtuosity - your uploads are always such a treat! Happy holidays!
Thanks, Graham! I have a few more uploads scheduled now over the coming weeks and then there will be a bit of a pause until I can set my Hauptwerk organ up again - a bit sad today to dismantle it, albeit it temporarily, but I should have it operational again by early September. Have a great summer!
I haven’t graded this one before. Very nice texture. And of course played very well!
Thanks for listening, Rien! 🙏
Wonderful performance, Paul! Well played! I like Jackson's music a lot! I had the opportunity to meet him at Wells cathedral in 1992 (where he donated a signed copy of his Toccata to me ;-) ). Many greetings from Germany, Ralf.
Thanks so much for listening, Ralf! What a privilege to meet Francis himself. Yes, I like his music greatly, too, and the Toccata is also a fine piece. Greetings to you from the UK!
Beatiful advanced trio! Not played often. Thanks Paul for sharing!
Thank you, Vidas! Yes, not often played but very beautiful pieces, I think.
So beautiful, the winding melodies in different voices sound complex and playful 😊
Thanks for listening, Cornelia! 🙏
Wonderful. 😀
Thank you! 😃
