Can someone please explain to me wtf this was? This man has been an absolute guitar hero to me for over 35 years. This version literally sounded like a high school band got together and played about 5x before going on stage. Absolute rubbish. He better clean it up before MSG. We didn't spend $800 on tickets to hear what sounds like a bar band.

Frank's guitar playing is one of the hardest to copy. Dweezil learned tons of his fathers licks and he became a very good guitarist on his own. But as soon as it goes into improvisation mode it's clear he's not Frank. I saw FZ more than 20 times in the mid 70s, every gig was different, never played the same solo twice. In improvisation mode very much on his very own planet, unbelievable, nobody will ever play like this again. Also back in the mid 70s FZ had the best band on the planet. Respect for Dweezil keeping Frank's music alive, but I had musically the best times of my life with the original, so I can't listen to the revival band, not even comes close. By the way, that guest guitarist here is definitely on the wrong stage.

Yes, yes, he does a clunker but laughs it off. But the apex live version of cliffs regarding just the TONE/TIMBRE "violin tone" if from the ACL 1099 actually prior to the studio releasle of Cliffs. He has muddled down his tone considerably since then.. He has stated he prefers the latter tone, since there's no diff between legato playing and pick attack, he wants the notes come out the same. That "BITE" of the pick attack is present at the studio original recording though, too. But later on not so much. But he's 70. It's a pity we're all starting to get into the "reverse prodigy" thing now. Llike watching a little kid fly away on piano and say "hey, he's just 5 yeas old..." but replace the age number. Like that should be mitigating or covering up for lack of enthusiasm, fantasy, speed, skills, doing clunkers more often than not. This version is one of the latter better ones. Worst version recorded for posterity is the LIVE EUROPE version which I think is performed on the SG all the way through, and NOT the Butler OD>Echoplex-Marshall but through the fuzz face only.
