Lionel Messi~ Football’s Greatest Dribbler
🗣️“When all is said and done, one player, in my view, stands above any player I've seen in the art of ball dribbling.
Stanley Matthews pushed the dribbling envelope across the '40s and '50s. Garrincha and Sivori took it a tad further across the late '50s to early '60s. George Best and Johan Cruyff moved that dribble envelope a bit further across the late '60s and '70s. And then Maradona took it to a level never seen before. His '86 World Cup still stands as the greatest World Cup display of dribbling to date. Ronaldo threatened to blow the back out of things across the late '90s. The speed, power, intensity of his dribble runs and the quickness of his touches were mind-blowing.

Alfredo Di Stéfano ~ The Maestro Of Total Football

It was said off the 1950s footballer known as Don Alfredo Di Stéfano. That with him on the pitch. You had an extra man in every position! Such was his mastery of every positional zone on the pitch. Midfield playmaker, defensive interceptions-tackling-covering. Forward goalscoring sniper. He did the lot! In this respect. He's possibly the most complete player along with Pelé & Johan Cruyff. Once in a millennium player, Best had otherworldly skill that cannot be taught. At a basic level he had an extreme mixture of will, psychology, nano timing and complete awareness of time and space.
See the Bergkamp-like touch that he performs here 3:03? If the defender ( who seemed to be playing the man and not the ball ) hadn't knocked him off balance, he'd have been able to shoot immediately after the turn. 3 defenders grouped around him, after he'd eliminated the first, and they wouldn't have been able to stop him getting his shot off, such was his control in that instance. Genius!
@@a_guinness It's a fantastic piece of ball supplementation, as he cow tails the ball with the instep, in a quick back to front spin. Just a brilliant peice of improvisation. Just before that at 2:56, he beats the man with a shoulder drop, without touching the ball. Something Messi does all the time lol.

I know that you have recently become a huge supporter and fan of Messi and describe him as a goat versus the bad Maradona, but... I still see that your conversion to Messi is not a strong argument like your old arguments and opinions, which were strong, especially in... A video in which I refute what is said that Messi is the GOAT. His World Cup victory was not convincing and came after great support and assistance from social media, FIFA, and the organizing country, Qatar. As you said previously, he failed in five World Cups, so there is no comparison between him and Pele, Maradona, and even Cruyff, who participated once and left an unforgettable mark.
@@ayman3715 Most of my comments on RUclips & X since 2016 always had Messi as the best player from 1980 to 2024. So no, I'm not a recent Messi convert. I regard him as the powerful football machine in that time frame when factoring in dribbling, assists, goals, freekicks, trophies, elite consistency, and longevity at prolific levels. The only thing missing was big trophies for Argentina & a solid World Cup display. He's done all that now with a World Cup & 2 Copa Americas. It's a better international run than Maradona managed. 🇦🇷🏆⚽️ I still regard Pelé as the most complete football machine I've ever seen. He had barely any weakness to his game. Heading, dribbling, 2-foot passes, 2-foot shooting, freestyle skills, prolific goalscoring, penalty taker, freekicks: using instep, outstep, front of the boot, tackling, unbelievable vision. The man was simply ridiculous!🤯👑

@@ayman3715 Hi mate. After his 3peat international trophies haul. ( 2 Copa America, 1 World Cup ). He's got a far superior intl run now than Maradona, who only had the '86 World Cup run, but failed Copa America '87, '89, World Cup '90. Pelé's 3 World Cup trophies win run & Copa Libertadores trophies run, *_possibly_* put's him & Messi ahead of the pack. But really. If Di Stéfano, Pelé, Cruyff, Maradona, Messi, were all on the pitch at the same time. It would be a brave man who would call a winner. So in essence. Yes, i still stick to the theme of the video.
@@johnpacino007 But Messi did not create anything in this tournament and did not have an impact on the victory The same thing happened with Ronaldo in 2016 Pele, for example, did not win the Copa, but he performed the best performance in the history of the tournament in 1959
@@ayman3715 Indeed. But it counts towards the legacy. Similar to Pelé winning '62 world cup, despite playing only one game & a half.

With height of 150 cm he wouldn't able to play professional football. He had taken peptide(basic structure of protein molecules)not steroids.
Thanks John great upload - The more I watch Cruyff the more impressed I am, unlike Pele where it feels the opposite for some reason. My Top 5 would be 1. Lionel Messi 2. Maradona 3. Pele 4. Puskas 5. Di Stefano You could change the order to include Cruyff and I would'nt argue. I had to include Puskas simply because of his insane stats that are similar to Messi's. - 600 + goals and 300 + assists. It was back in the 50's so I don't know if they've been inflated. Jimmy Greaves actually put Brazil great Garrincha above Cruyff but these things are always subjective.
@bt6602 Thanks mate. I tend to have: Pelé, Maradona, Messi, all together on one tier. As a goat case could be made for any one of them. They pushed the envelope higher than any other players in terms of slalom dribble goals ( Pelé, Messi ). Dribbling ( Maradona , Messi ). Freestyle skills ( Pelé, Maradona). Then I'd have behind them: Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Zidane. I tend to rate players that were not only great club players. But great international football players for country. Especially at world cups.
@@johnpacino007for me Most Complete player- 1st Pele Greatest of all time- 1st Messi Reason Pele was Dribbler playmaker Goalscorer had Strength speed heading powerful feet. Messi lack athletic things like Strength speed heading power in legs becoz he was born with disease GHD with effect the growth of the body causing decrease muscle mass and retarded height he had undergone into treatment just attain body like normal man. Despite of this physical condition messi reach to pele levels in every thing like Playmaking Dribbling consistency and Goalscoring even Messi had better defence stats than Ronaldo
I would incluide George Best & John Charles as they could both go comfortbaly in an all time list. But it's still Messi or Maradona for No 1 spot, whichever people prefer. I'm actually siding towards Lionel Messi, he was like a combination hybrid of George Best and Jimmy Greaves. The dribbling of Best and the execution and left footed curled finishes of Greavsie which Messi did alot of. Not a bad combo!

I've had that in production for a while. Will get round to finishing it.
Best passer ever.
I believe that no player who has shone in Europe has been better than Puskas, not Cruyff, not Beckenbauer, not Di Stefano, not Messi.
Pelé, in my opinion, is incomparable, the best of all. As Pelé hors-concours, I believe Zico was the best player of all time. Zico was the closest to Pelé in terms of characteristics. A complete and perfect number 10, with excellence in all aspects of the roles he played. Zico was an unstoppable dribbler, fierce in the final third of the field, had an absurd dominance of the area and scored goals in every way; in addition to his absurd intelligence to set up the team and pass, Zico in the blink of an eye found a pass where no one saw it, he found absurd solutions; as well as contributing defensively. In addition to everything he did for Flamengo, with his decision-making power, managing to increase his team's capacity and being the big name of the most winning era in Flamengo's history. Even in the match against Liverpool in 81 it is worth mentioning what Graemme Sounnes said: "Maradona was there, but Zico was sensational. I promised I would stop him, but I couldn't even get close enough to make the foul" His time in the national team, despite no titles, Zico never left anything to be desired in the games he played in, he always delivered a great performance and only lost one game, precisely against Italy.
I believe that in this century, no dribbler was as good as Messi. His ability to accelerate, balance, the way he protects and carries the ball in tight spaces was spectacular. However, I believe that Pelé, Zico, Cruyff, Maradona, Johnstone and Best are superior in dribbling or perhaps not; It's a difficult analysis. I believe Maradona was just as good in short spaces and had just as good balance, and was more skilled. Zico, in turn, had his best dribbling skills in the 70s, where he was at the peak of his physical form, with fewer knee problems. Unfortunately we have few Zico plays from that time, but he was a player capable of catching the ball and stopping in the goal, just like Messi and Maradona. I'm impressed by Zico's ability to get past all defenders in that final third. It impresses me that Zico managed to simplify his game a lot, he seemed to know the shortcuts very well and suddenly he was face to face with the goal. Cruyff stands out for his explosion. I really like the movement of his body in his dribbling, it seemed like his body was malleable. Pelé was more unpredictable, he was a BOMB in the final third of the field. Johnstone, is very similar to Messi. Best, was very bold, another who also glued the ball to his feet. It makes me curious to think what these players would do with better fields, a much better ball and less protection.
Thanks for the comments. I believe Messi to be the greatest dribbler of a ball, there's *_ever_* been. No player I've seen, dribbled out of some many bodies around them, while pressed simultaneously, by up to four oppenents at once . You watch all the top dribblers. Their aim is to be in-out quickly, to stop numerous opponents closing them down. Messi can stop mid-stream in a cul-de-sac of bodies around him & he'll just do shoulder drops, feint's, while not even touching the ball! 😲 & in a blink of an eye, he's out of the cul-de-sac malaise, with the finest intricacy of fast, close control dribble touches, ever seen. You mention Maradona. Great dribbler. Got nowhere near the amount of deep-zoned, dribble goals, playing in European club football like Messi. Messi's scored so many dribble goals, dribbling from the halfway line or near to it, more than any player that's ever played in European club football. Getafé '07 Real Madrid '11 Atletico Bilbao '15 Eibar '17 Just some of the many Incredible, deep - running, dribble goals. Simply the best dribbler to ever do it!
@@johnpacino007I believe that Zico and Maradona impressed me with their ability to resolve complex situations with just a few touches; they were more impressive. Zico, in the final third of the field, even after coming back from a series of markers, manages to escape in the most brilliant way. Maradona was an artist with the ball, he did things out of this world. I believe that in better conditions and with more protection, we would see a lot more of the players we mentioned. Zico, for example, suffers a lot due to the lack of archives of his goals, many of his goals from the 70s were lost; of the few that exist, there is one against Vasco where he surrounded himself with a series of markers, turns his body and dribbles past 3 players and hits the goal
@@Fadefutebol-fu1py The problem is, both Zico & Maradona spectacular deep-zoned dribble goals, starting from the half-way line, were done in the Brazilian & Argentinian leagues respectively. Both players got nowhere near those type of goals in the harder, more tactical defensive set-ups in European club football. Both players played in European club football, were all the best players in the world started to ply their trade, starting across the 1980s. As i last stated. Messi as scored those type of dribble goals so many times in European club, at a prolific rate *_never_* seen before in European club football. That's a FACT! In South America. Pelé scored all sorts of dribble slalom goals, at a much more *_prolific_* rate than Zico & Maradona.
@@johnpacino007It's a great point, in the end, in my opinion it will be a bit of a mental exercise. I wonder if the players I mentioned had better protection and better ball and field conditions; I also think the laliga defenses are very fragile.
@@Fadefutebol-fu1py Messi's spectacular half-way line or near to it, dribble goals & solo dribble runs from those area's, where also done at a prolific rate, also at UCL games. He's simply, *_the greatest controller of a moving ball on the ground ever seen_* & I've been watching this game since across the 1970s. His tight, pythogras, complex geometrical dribble patterns, otherwordly! While making it all look so easy.
Pele is not the greatest footballer to ever live. Till now there is none who we can call the Goat objectively. Cuz the Goat in football has to be best of all time in goalscoring, dribbling, playmaking & defending. The undisputed 🐐 has to be the best of all time in all of these positions which is certainly not the case for Pele,Maradona or Messi.
I've tackled goat philosophical narrative's before. See this video. I remain totally atheistic to them. Never found any *_truely_* convincing... 👉ruclips.net/video/ZrlnjhjSbP0/видео.htmlsi=eMTRGYjnfmvF0_-Y
One of the best compilations i've ever seen of this amazing player, able to play at any position in the pitch, using either the inside or outside of both feet, his speed, his intelligence, his astonishing skills, his unstoppable acceleration... Unfortunely he only attended one World Cup as he refused to play in Argentina 78 missing a second chance to win the world championship. One of the greatest, if not the greatest.
