A Healthy Garden Pond
This is an example of a healthy garden pond: there are four different water-weeds present and a variety of irises and other marginal plants. There is some blanketweed which we manually remove, before administering phosphate binder and a gentle algaecide.

Brown Pond Water

Adjacent to this pond we built, is an old apple tree. The leaves fall into the pond and release their tannins which have turned the water this amazing 'peaty' orangey-brown.

How to Clean an Oase BioTec ScreenMatic 2
Hello ! What do you do if you can’t pull up the blue handle ? Step ?
Please contact your local Oase Authorised Installer who will be able to help. Where are you located?
En français se serait mieux
Oase filltoclear are the best pond filters imo. Thank you for the video.
Hi Richard. I have the same filter but it's not been installed very well. How can I move it? I have a video on RUclips showing it not working Very well. Thanks.
I am looking for a new filter and pump for my 4000 litre pond would you recommend this one as I'm confused as so many on the market
Go for the FiltoClear 13000 Set if you don’t have many fish. If you have lots of fish, then go for the 19000 Set.
Many thanks. I am having difficulty pumping the handle so should I open it up to clean the filters or persevere pumping? Also when I remove the blanking cap there is a steady stream of water rather than a small trickle even before moving the dial. Aso what size is the stepped threaded horsetail for the waste? Many thanks
Good advise
Brilliant, ours is slightly different 31000 but so easy to do,good work out too if it's been left afew wks.thankyou,we would of struggled if I hadn't watched your video..👍😁
I’m glad my video was helpful. Thank you.
Wow! I have found my pump for three years now I’ve never been shown to twist it to the second position to clean the foams! I am on a mission this year to have crystal clear pond water so I’m hoping that this is going to help do the trick. I’ve checked everything else. Thank you for the very clear short and precise video.😊 Suzio
I’m glad it was helpful.
May I ask is this a good filtration system or not? I am also thinking of getting one. :)
Very useful thank you bought a used unit so no instructions
Hello. Im really considering getting the screenmatic 24,000. Can you make a video showing me how I'd install it? I cant find aby install videos. Ty
Looking into buying the oase 8000 and it also comes with a clear section to see the water. Why dont you use yours? Did it break? Is your filter still running good? How durable are they? Please let me know because if it doesnt hold up good, I'll pass on it. Ty
I recommend you look at the current range of FiltoClears: 5000, 13000, 19000, 31000. Use 38mm or 50mm hosing which will enable you to use the clear hose connector. The FiltoClear in the video is an older style (16000) which I modified for use with 32mm hose, which is why you do not see the clear return hose connector. I don’t recommend using less than 38mm hosing.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 ty so much for your reply, i really appreciate it!! The model im looking into is the 8000. I dont know how new it is but it is a current model. So all in all, you'd still recommend this brand?
@@EyezLikaFox̌ I'm based in the Uk and we don't have the '8000'. I must install 30 to 40 (and growing) FiltoClears every year, so yes, I recommend them. Excellent brand - from experience.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 awesome again, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I greatly appreciate it 🥰
Would have been better if you would have showed the pond after it had cleared up.
Thank you Richard very useful
Thanks so much for this very clear explanation. Just about to clean my filter for the first time..!
My waste water always comes out clean don’t know why?
Thanks !
The net is not helping.
You are a star. Just bought my first Oase filtoclear 16000 for my duck pond. You make it look so easy. 😃
Verry useful, specialy about thé anti clockwise,i did not know that. Thnx
Very helpful. Thanks
Well explained-I could not work it withthe printed instructions that came with it, so many thanks!
Thank you Richard - very useful. I moved here from the United States and on my water feature in South Carolina I had a biofilter that didn't require any maintenance. So this has been particularly helpful for me.
Did it clear the pond, what pond size was it please.
It did indeed. The volume of the pond is only about 2000 litres, but I always recommend at least once filter size up. You can’t go wrong with a FiltoClear. Don’t skimp on the model size.
Sir spar pats givmee
Good
Thank you very much!
How much water is in the pond, many thanks Jason
Jason Wilson 3,500 litres
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 mine has about 3000-3500, this could be the system for me. How long do the filters last and how much are they? Thanks Richard, appreciate your quick reply, jason
Jason Wilson Jason, it could well be, but to be honest I can’t say for sure without visiting your pond. The foams will last up to three years before they need replacing. I’m some cases they need replacing yearly. I install about 25 FiltoClears each year.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 Thanks, if the foams cost £40 ish then I don't mind yearly but 3 years would be great, thanks again Richard
Good clean up Richard, theres a really good blanket weed treatment called Resolve just works might be usefull in any future jobs, thanks for sharing
I mean, these are some of the easiest filters on the market to maintain... some people 😂 Anyways, just bought one of these 30,000’s Rich. I think I should be ok on my 1000 g pond. Can never over filter 😊
Use a tripod!
RicktheRecorder I am using a gimbal these days. Thanks for the tip.
Nice
thanks
Hi I have installed the 90000 screenMatic 2 set 8 weeks ago all running good water test all good my question is the top sponges are only half covered water level only goes up to outlet. This was installed on my original pond so not new clean water so do I leave it before cleaning flushing out till the water reaches the first level on back plate? Water dose look dirty round sponges but coming out of outlet clear. Hope this makes sence as my old box had to clean once a week and add Bio gel .
Brian Wicks NOTE: firstly, it is essential that the pond is completely clean before installing the filter. The final water level is not reached in the container until the bacteria are established and the filter be- comes fully effective. • New foam filters take 3 to 4 weeks to reach their full biological cleaning effect. The water level is initially lower; the foam filters are not completely covered by the water. The filter may overflow while the beneficial bacteria colonies are being established. Do not clean the foam filters for 3 to 4 weeks. • The biological cleaning effect ceases at temperatures under 10 °C. In addition to the mechanical ‘sieving’ of the water and the resultant impediment of the water-flow, microbes will colonise the filter foams and surfaces of the filter, which results in lipids (fatty acids) being deposited. These lipids will further cause the water level to rise. Regularly dose the filter with OASE BioKick Premium for enhanced bacteriological filtration results! I hope this information helps.
Thank you very much for your advice 👍
Hi Do you have to clean the round filters at the front ? Thanks
Paul Hines They are filled with ammonia remover (zeolite) and will be exhausted within six months. Throw the zeolite away and replace with PhosLess. Be sure to dose the filter with a live filter bacteria supplement when you do so.
Hi i just bought the filter and my up and down pump in not pulling, is there somewhere I need to unlock it?
Could you tell me why the foams go on alternately and not from medium to fine. Thanks.
Alan Minshall I’m not sure Alan, that’s an interesting question. I will have to ask OASE at some point.
Why would the UV belt go backwards intermittently ?
Hello ! What is the volume of your pond ? And are you still satisfied after 2 years of using ? (excuse my pour level of english)
Dugon38 Bauden Hi. I installed this BioTec ScreenMatic2 90,000 for a client. His pond is 30,000 litres and only has 5 small koi. No other fish and no plants either. I am a big fan of these filters.
Its been two years since this post, how has this device lasted? Is it still your choice for those wanting a similar style of filter?
Morgan Moe I have in the past week installed a 140000 model, which is the biggest in the range. Today I serviced a 90000 like the one in the video. They’re great filters systems. Make sure you select the correct model for your pond.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 Thanks for the response, Richard. Is it possible to "over size" it. My current pond is only 5000L but I do plan to expand. Is it wrong to purchase a 24 or 38 now so that "my pond can grow into it"?
Morgan Moe Over-sizing a filter system rarely ever happens, though under-sizing is common ! The BioTec ScreenMatic2 range starts at 40,000 and goes up to 140,000. As a guide, take the 40,000 - it is suitable for a fish-less pond UP TO 40,000 litres. If there are fish present, then it becomes suitable for a pond UP TO 20,000 litres. If there are koi present, then the filter is suitable for a pond UP TO 10,000 litres. Choose the one model suitable for your pond based on this, and then buy the one size up! Hope I’ve helped.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 You most certainly have! Thank you and keep up the awesome videos on your channel :)
A beautiful pond like that needs fish. I'm cleaning my pond out at the weekend and uploading a video. Awesome video 👍
would this filter be good for a biological lake / biological pool? Thanks!
Yes, yes it would be.
How hard are these to install?
Andre Crawford They are not difficult to install, but I would encourage you to seek advice, particularly where selection of the right model is concerned. Richard
FishLife I have a small business myself, i was an authorised installer for oase last year but i’ve never installed one of these! just the small filtration systems really, i do know a bit about them but never installed, do you have any tips whilst installing buddy?
Andre Crawford where are you located?
FishLife I’m located in Devon mate, Torbay area
Why spend all that money on a pond without any fish ? Seems excessive
I was thinking the same
Agreed. Maybe they just want clean and clear water 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for your video, greatly appreciated.
Gorgeous garden and pond too! Thanks for the instruction.
Very useful no more 🤔🤔🤔👋
An excellent well described procedure. Thanks.
Tony Veale Thank you. Glad you found it useful.
