I've seen it a few times with different people reacting, 5 times so far. It sticks fairly true to the broadway version. Ariana would protest if they changed the story too much, especially taking out key moments or lines, often siting that they are bible, and must stay in the movie. I've seen so many interviews with Cynthia and love the one where she talks about how the look for hair and makeup were all her choices. She was asked what she wanted and the team listened to her and seeing it all on screen was amazing. The story touches on everything you mentioned you were concerned about. The scene where Glinda sends Bok over to Nessa was not the same as the broadway version ...but it hit all the right points to make you feel a certain way. And that ozdust ballroom scene......I got emotional every time seeing it at the movies.

Fun fact: The recording of the person reading boots used in the trailer is 110 years old

I liked it too!! Everyone has me feeling crazy out here for enjoying it. Even went in costume with face paint and all, and my hair is green 🤷‍♀️ it was good for what it was and I went in with no expectations. I enjoyed the ending as well. It had a purpose. No one cares about Arthur, they cared about joker. Arthur was just the catalyst to the ideology of the joker. “Did you hate it because you didn’t understand it” YES. People didn’t want to understand it because they had too many expectations of what THEY wanted.
